Lookin' crazy and being crazy are two different animals. I'm STILL going w/ Martinez and wouldn't be surprised if Junior walked into something he didn't see coming and temporarily has some Elvis going on his legs. I know it's fashionable to doubt Martinez, but I think dude has some pretty good skills and can get the job done against Junior. My biggest concern is, Sergio usually takes his "union smoke break" 'round the 6th or 7th round and if he doesn't play it smart, he could be in some trouble (as Jr. could be 180+ in that ring come fight night). Yeah.. looks of craziness don't win boxing matches... I just don't see how Chavez can beat Sergio... Sergio has boxing ability and power. If Sergio boxes and uses angles I don't see how he loses to Chavez who is as one dimensional as they come. At some point with his face fighting style he is going to get his chin cracked... |

Chavez by TKO in 11th. Martinez is slowing down and his age is catching up to him. Chavez is a dirty fighter with the weight flux but his dedication to his body attacking technique is almost second to none in boxing. On top of that Chavez has an iron chin, I mean i thought he was going to get KO'd by Rubio or Andy Lee but got damn he's a tough son of a legend. He attacks nonstop and knows how to effectively cut off the ring. People say Martinez's speed and power will stop Chavez in his tracks; I just don't buy it. Andy Lee and Rubio I think hit harder than Martinez but Chavez never was hurt. I like Martinez but lets be realistic, we wont truly know till fight night. Chavez is a walking redwood and I think Martinez would be wise to not get dragged into a brawl. If Martinez boxes, stays behind that beautiful jab of his and uses his angles and great footowork then he can win but I don't see it. I think Chavez loses all rounds but gets Martinez into a brawl and stops him late. #boxing |

like i said before...if martinez doesn't get respect early and back chavez up...it's going to be a long night. yeah, martinez can outbox chavez...but can he do it for 12 rounds? i seriously doubt it. he's not had to face the kind of pressure that chavez brings in quite a while. he isn't any younger....and like a few have said...chavez can take a punch. ppl are saying that chavez is one dimensional..but what happens when martinez runs out of realestate? i don't believe he has the skills to fight on the inside. all he can do is box and when chavez cuts that ring on him and forces him into trench warfare the fight will swing chavez' way. he's going to take away those legs.

Shelly...you know I'm not lyin'. Like any train in the city, that "smoke break" is ALWAYS on time. You aint lyin' at all bro...the analogy is what killed me! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) I remember being in Savannah during the Martinez/Macklin fight, and reading that round by round thread was hilarious! Yall were wild! |

Chavez Junior in my view ain't shit.. Sergio should box and then take his one dimensional face fighting cruiser weight ass out. I hope Sergio puts his ass in hospital... JCC Jr. has definitely improved, but I agree with you (except for the hospital part, but a royal beat down, yes). JCC Jr's only hopes are that the smaller ring pays off (didn't they go with a smaller ring?) and he can corner Martinez. IMO, that's his only chance. |

Since this is the preview thread, we can keep everything in this thread about the whole Face-Off, which will air tonight. At midnight, we'll have episode 1 of Dawson/Ward 24/7, next comes 2 Days segment (JCC Jr. before the Lee bout, I presume), and the full Face-Off will afterwards. This is about the first big night we've had in boxing all month...and there's not even a fight tonight. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) word. i just watched it. it wasn't intense the whole way through but it worked for me. martinez definitely won the verbal warfare...but chavez did not look shook up by any of that. mexicans aren't typically big shit talkers. chavez said it best...."u'll find out what kind of fighter i am on sep 15th." still excited about the fight. |
