I think he'll work under Haymon as his manager but not under Mayweather Promotions. Sorry for the way I phrased that. It's cool, if anything, it brought me to the point of wondering what any other promotional company has in store for Yuri at this point. Being the fact that Arum couldn't do much with him anyway. If a big time promoter like Arum found it hard to make Gamboa a star, then I dont know what in the hell he's going to do with Rigondeaux. Lol. He sure as hell aint gonna get Donaire. Anyhow, Im wondering who Gamboa would be matched with to somehow cross him over into some pool of success (so to speak). He's the type of fighter that needs a promoter, though he has ring appeal, he doesn't speak English and really doesn't have that star personality...the nice guy role doesn't work for many. Im wondering how many people have left Arum and became stars with another company. Hmmm. To my knowledge, as of late, they either got too damn old (Morales) or they left and got their own thing started (OLDH, FMJ, Cotto). The way I see it, if Gamboa had defeated Rios and made it big as a result, then Bob Arum would have never let him go subsequently and in peace anyways. So either way, Gamboa was screwed as a puppet with Bob, as Gamboa wouldn't necessarily be making a shitload of money under Bob. This is because, as far as one can see in recent memory, Arum only makes real money with, and for, Mexican fighters (you implied that much as well,) not counting Pacquiao, that is. Otherwise, how could a sane promoter defiantly go ahead to make so much insane money on and for Margarito after the loaded gloves scandal? For me, it was one of the reasons I've never watched Pacquiao-Margarito. I think Gamboa, at this stage in his career, is better off fighting for/under GBP. Who knows... may be that was the scenario or bombshell Oscar promised to disclose a couple of months ago, only for him to subsequently develop cold feet? P34c3 Totally agree! Couldn't have said it better myself. |

GAMBOA!
I'm glad he got out of that Top Rank deal. Interested to see where he ends up. Considering Vargas' move, I'm thinking he's signing/signed with Mayweather Promotions. Some kinda cash + fighter deal to get Yuri outta that Top Skank contract. Now i just wanna see him back in the ring asap and challenging all the top guys around his weight class... If Haymon can get a guy like Berto HBO coverage etc, I'm sure his expertise will be utilized in an "adviser" capacity in the re-marketing of Gamboa as one of the "elite". So long as it doesn't entail a procession of tomato cans, I'll consider this a good move for Yuri.. |

If Gamboa's escape from the plantation was because of the cash + fighter deal, then that might explain the Jessie Vargas move. I'm a massive fan of Gamboa's. Like you, I'm looking forward to seeing him back in the ring. |

You're right, he does need to get back in the ring asap, he's not getting any younger. I cant come off the top of my head with a viable opponent for him at the moment, since the featherweight division isn't ringing any bells in my head at the moment. Some how, some way, the Gods need to find a way to get Chris John's ass in the states to fight. I think a Broner fight is waaaay too soon for Yuri, but more so waaay too soon for the fans. Yuri could come back at 130 and have a few noteworthy fight, because its obvious that Broner wont be at 130 for long...so they can meet at 135. So I guess our imaginations can run wild about some possible 130 lb matchups for Yuri. |

Yeah, just read on here that Vargas' contract with Floyd had already expired, so his move to Top Rank may not be connected with Gamboa's release at all. However I reckon it prob helped in easing the Bobster's grasp on Yuri, knowing he was getting a decent undefeated Mexican fighter from the same guys who he considered at least involved with f'ing up his whole Gamboa vs Rios fight/windfall. I'm not a big Vargas fan, but I do think he's a solid fighter who can get better and become an attraction. His fight with Josesito Lopez which he won was good scrap and fun to watch. Good luck to him... Now I just wanna see how far Yuri can go in the potentially short time he may have. Dude is already 30, 31 at the end of this year. He needs to get it popping real quick... |

Probably at least four to five years of top notch performing from Gamboa. I can't imagine that the promoters aren't circling like sharks and that he'll be in the ring soon. Re. Vargas, let's see who TR puts him in the ring with and what he does. |

Personally, I think he might be better off going with GBP... That way he should get decent dates and opposition.

Anybody see any potential Gamboa opponents at 130, in the event that he doesn't return as a featherweight? I'm looking for hardcore fan responses and fights that actually makes sense...dont wanna hear Broner or Donaire's name. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes_anim.gif)
