1. Well, you did say that your favorite song was "Fuck The Police", and you appeared to have like 2Pac's way of doing things...sooooo??? Obviously, according to you, people are too damn self conscious, so iif they aren't self conscious or even careful about how they speak out, then what other option is left? 2. Just read my response to your first point, and that should answer it. You apparently like "Fuck The Police" and that song caused a huge uproar not to mention violence. You "dig" Mike Tyson because he doesn't care what the public thinks of him. Yet, he goes off on wild rants and tells people that he will "fuck them until they love him" and he will "eat their children". He used that press conference as "a platform", and look what he did with it. I doubt that the media will use him to speak out against current crimes and such. Weren't they speaking out against police brutality, harassment, etc in that song? I doubt there were any other races in Compton and Crenshaw, receiving this type of treatment, other than young black Americans...but they weren't speaking out for an entire group of people? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) Well, you're obviously not a big fan of people speaking out in an intelligent manner and choosing their words carefully. With that said...how else can they speak out? Either be careful how you speak, be a loudmouth, belligerent, rebellious idiot, or say nothing at all. But you like the whole NWA approach to being heard and respected? Well at least you did at one point. Just shut the fuck up... Im sorry sweetheart, but you're still dumb...no matter how much time to spend away from the board. Funny how I made my point on Friday, and you come back on Monday morning, with less than you had on Friday. You're famous for getting lost in your own posts, and it's clear that it doesn't take much to confuse. Sadly, you're the main culprit, in regards to being responsible for throwing yourself off. No matter how many big name public figures you throw in your posts...you are still lost. You actually do a good job in the beginning, but deeper into the discussion (in which you choose to go), you're often left with the "deer in the headlights" look. You have done a great job of proving to us that a woman with a grotesque, vomit-inducing face and pea-sized brain, make the perfect marriage. Now do yourself a favor and take a seat. There's no reason for you take 3 days to come back with a lackluster response, and hope to get some respect for it. Sorry, but you've once again failed...move along jackass. First off I have a life so forgive if I can't be on this board every minute. Second your post isn't worth reading. You already proved what a lout you already are. Move on. I'm done. Don't ever call me sweetheart especially coming for someone who does not know their ass from their mouth. I will mention one thing: The NWA comment and I know reading for understanding isn't your strong point was relating to how artist of today do not talk about anything but sex, popping bottles, and bling. I said that NWA as edgy as fuck the police was, was something that the youth in los angeles especially black youth was feeling, they felt that and said it. Now I did not go on in deeper into NWA. You are just deaf dumb and lost. You honestly can't be helped do me a favor and go play freeze tag on 85 south. |

It's clear as day, that when you get owned or called out on your shit (which always a bunch of fluff), you leave the board for 2 or 3 days. Of course my post wasn't worth reading, because Im sure that halfway through reading some of your shit, you realized that you had dug a hole for yourself. Rule of Holes #1: When you find yourself in one...STOP digging. You do your best to prove that there's a brain in that rusty shit bucket that you call a head, but to no avail, you always come up short. Im guessing that, just because you have a brain, it doesn't necessarily make you smart. Answer this question...if I implant an antler on your forehead, does that make you a unicorn? Dont hurt yourself trying to answer that. Your posts in this thread could be compared to a dog chasing it's own tail. It's sad that pill-addicted basketcases like you, wonder the streets free of supervision and mental assistance. Who cares if you "have a life", nobody asked. As a matter of fact, you may want to get back to that. You do nothing more around here, than regurgitate shit that everyone else has posted and pass it as facts...even if you have to dig up old threads to do so. The saddest part about idiots like you is, you actually have the right to vote in this country...which is a highly dangerous. Do us all a favor and go sit your fugly ass down somewhere...and trust me, me calling you sweetheart was strictly sarcasm...not to mention that you're uglier than a pair of bowling shoes anyway (as I've stated before). Again, go sit your ugly dumb ass down somewhere. |

i think u guys were married in a past life or something. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
i can see both sides of the argument. more ppl in prominent positions need to speak out against the injustices of the day. it's what made ali, paul robeson, jim brown and a very few others the champions they were. they always did it at the cost of being outcast or blackballed. ali gave up 3 yrs of his career for something he believed in. that will never be topped by todays athletes who expect the world and give very little. todays athletes are rewarded for potential!!! not accomplishments. it's really a sad state. as far as tupac...i don't see him as the great person/martyr everyone makes him out to be. i see him as a tragedy. a person with sooo much potential and he pissed it all away trying to be accepted by the ppl. he wasn't a thug. he wanted to be. he had a voice and didn't always use it the right way. he left us some gems....but the overwhelming majority of his shit contradicts the good. i guess a lot can be said for speaking out....or not giving a shit what the masses think. sometimes barriers are made to be broken. the media is going to spin things the way they see fit. i look back on a guy like jack johnson who was waaay ahead of his time. he was brash...he didn't give a shit what ppl thought....and as a result, riots occured and ppl were killed because of what he accomplished. i can't blame that on jack johnson. he was who he was....and the racists that committed the crimes they did as the result of his actions were what they were....pieces of shit. history is riddled with ppl that some view as hero's and there will always be critics to paint a different picture. i say learn to decipher the double speak and don't believe everything u read or hear. |

If you listened to the music of the 60s and that time period is very strong and socially conscious. Rappers now with the exception of a few (Lupe, Common, Black Star etc.) are not socially conscious what so ever. As much shit is Kayne spouts off and that bore of a rapper Jay Z where are they with this Trayvon Martin case? Where is the rappers, the cats who say the hate the police and they are about they hood blah blah. They are quiet as a church mouse. Sinead O' Conner even spoke out. Prince wore a hoodie! Prince! There is this am station on in Atlanta that I listen to and they asked these kids who started the Million man March and this chic said "Martin Luther King!" So Dr. Dyson in that context is correct if these rappers actually become conscious then you will see a difference in our youth. But if and they will continue to talk about sex, drugs, recklessness, youth, and ignorance then this is the result. Whoa whoa whoa. 1st of all, Jay Z is the best rapper alive lol 2nd of all, PART of the reason there is a disconnect with today's youth and past generations is because todays youth doesnt make a concerned effort to know their history. The other part is because the elder generation makes comments like this. Jay Z is extremely philanthropic and socially vocal about pressing matters. Let's be frank. While I don't knock people's attempts to bring awareness, honestly, most people are doing it because it's "trending". There have been @ least 4 similar incidents since the the atrocity that is the Trayvon Martin case and they aren't nearly as publicized. I say that to say this: Just because a guy doesn't rap about one popular issue doesn't mean he isn't socially conscious. He and Kanye were both very vocal and very altruistic when it came to Ktrina. Jay Z was also one of the only artists to rap about the horrific water conditions in Africa. In fact, MTV did a documentary on his efforts to help quell it. He's probably one of the only rappers to work alongside Kofi Annan. Furthermore, MTV covered a gala he had for his scholarship fund. My best friend actually worked on the segment. At least 3 of his concert's proceeds have completely gone to 9/11. He's a big time contributor to Red Cross, B&G Club and Public Schools in NYC. Furthermore, he and U2 had a concert that raised money for Haiti after the earthquake. Furthermore, his lyrics have always included social issues including the hypocrisy of Bush's presidential tenure, police corruption amongst the NYPD, FEMA's futile efforts during Katrina, Sean Bell (for whom he's started a trust fund for his children), Danroy Henry's murder, convinced black ppl to boycott Crystal champagne because of the racist remarks they made, Obama's campaign etc. While the blame rightfully is put on children for choosing to glorify ignorance and parents for not being resounding role models, some of the blame needs to be put on irresposible media. When Jay Z and Warren Buffet teamed up with Boys and Girls Club to teach financial responsibility, it went completely unnoticed. At some point, we need to hold the media accoutable for ommitting positive news and distorting the facts. As Floyd said one time, the media doesn't care to show when he does good. They like to see him cursing and talking shit and being flashy. Should black celebs resist the urgeand become more consistent role models? Yes. But until we start holding the media accountable for not showing that side of them, it will all go for naught. |

JZ GETS CREDIT for his small amounts of philanthropy, boys club appearances, etc... yet these small amounts of "give back" which are not covered by the media does not offset the REALITY THAT Jay Z is damned near 45 and still calling women bitches in his music. He exhibits zero consciousness and is not worthy of any kid's admiration. Here is a guy who is 45 and still makes references to drug selling in his music. Black male exploiters like Jay z are co conspirators in Black degradation. I don't care how cool he looks or how much money he flashes, or how much attention his jezebel receives in the media. He has sold drugs and false hopes to inner city kids, and shockingly grown ups. I was in a barber shop listening to 40 year old and plus Black men talking about Jay Z's American Gangster Album being a "life inspiration"!!! sad...

I was in a barber shop listening to 40 year old and plus Black men talking about Jay Z's American Gangster Album being a "life inspiration"!!! sad... So because he uses profanity in his lyrics, it supercedes his altruism? Because he USED to sell drugs over 2 decades ago, he can't ever try and be a role model. That perfectly illustrates the disconnect and hypocrisy amongst the generational gap. This is exactly why Trayvon Martin's incident with marijuana has become just as publicized and his horrific death. The notion that, because you've done some wrong, you don't get to say anything and you must wear this scarlett "I" letter for ignorant black man. Small philanthropy? I beg to differ. Any NYer and most people on the outside looking in know how big it is to perform at the garden. Jay Z sold it out within about 11 seconds. He donated proceeds to 9/11 victims and has continuously held a concert and done almost every year since. Trayvon Martin has become a national story but years ago, NY had it's own somewhat similar incident in the Sean Bell case. Well, thank to Jay Z, his children won't have to worry about how theyre going to pay for college. Furthermore, he's also set up a scholarship fund that's run by his mother. From 2003-2005, he sent 50 students scholarships in 50 states each year. On top of that, the foundation now funds college tours. Something that myself as long as my friends had a lot of trouble with when I was in HS and looking for a college to attend. He didn't just APPEAR at the boys and girls club. He and Beyonce' donated upwards of 5 mill AND he hosted a function with Warren Buffet to teach financial security.Don't even get me started on his Water for Life movement. You should really school yourself on the man's life before you comment. He started selling drugs @ around 13. He grew up fatherless for most of his childhood, his mother worked double shifts and could not make ends meet. He was the youngest of his siblings and sought drug selling as income in the midst of the crack epidemic. Im not saying it's cool, but when you are the matriarchal bread winner and you're 13, I kinda get the urge to make money by any means necessary...especially when your mother's friends are buying. There's a difference between telling your story and glorifying negativity. Karrine Stephans glorifies negativity. She's looking to make a quick buck off of dick sucking stories. Sharing your stories with an audience that is much like yourself is totally different. While I didn't resort to selling drugs, as a NYer, I get where he's coming from. I get how it is growing up in NY when everyone on the outside thinks NY is all about Manhattan. I get what it's like when you step into "the city" and it's like a vacation compared to Brooklyn and Queens. American Gangster was a phenomenal album because it was one of the few albums that dared to tell the gritty, almost embarassing side of drug dealing. Most rappers act as if they were drug kingpins when in fact they were selling nickle bags on the corner. Jay Z illuminated people on the struggles including how addicting it can become...almost as if you are a feind yourself. While he isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination, to suggest that his sometimes profane lyrics eliminate all positive that he does, is unfair and ludicrous. Same with Mayweather. People actually criticized him for publicly offering to pay for Joe Frazier's funeral. But has he ever gotten, or asked for acknowledgement for paying for Chicanito Hernandez' funeral? I think the more we harp on the negative and ignore the positive, we put the power in the media's hands to create people. HBO is a classic example. Thank you! And no I wasn't married to this small-minded woman in the past life. In fact, she was probably some useless animal...maybe a granddaddy long leg perhaps. She should be happy that she's been upgraded to a human being in this lifetime, though she lacks all levels of intellect. As far as your points, I agree. Guys like 2Pac were definitely intelligent, but he definitely killed it when he tried to fit in (joined a gang late in life...a BIG no no) and changed his persona in a way. Stupid shit like "fuck the police" (though it made sense at the time), should not have been aired because people dont know how to utilize messages like that. Most of the stuff that rappers rap about (the smart ones), are in fact true, but should be taken with a grain of salt when an average adult listens to it. Things should be separated when listening to this music, but only an experienced, open-minded person will know how to separate the two. Rampant messages put out in the media, and defended, only yield negative results. Again, stuff like this gets taken the wrong way, and people act accordingly, which isn't always the right way of handling it. Some of this stuff causes rage and belligerence (whether its towards authority figures or against the very minority that the message is speaking for (black on black crime). Oh yeah...great points Franchize! Im just waiting for dumb-dumb (Allmenjoi) to barge in here and feel like somebody's taking her side, when she's actually been lost for the last 3 pages of this thread.
