What a crock of shit. America by & large is extremely xenophobic. If it don't happen in the good ole USA then it don't matter. What other country would have the arrogance to call a national league the "world series" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes_anim.gif) . FLoyd is hated because he is a fuckhead arrogant egotistical arsehole not because his skin is dark. The fact is that if Mayweather can indeed generate 1,000,000 PPV buys & break buy rate records in his fights shows race plays NO part in his success. He chose to play the bad guy & cannot bitch that he is not lauded for his attitude. It is nothing to do with his skin tone. The Klit brothers are universally derided because they are European guys who fight scared & have serious homosexual tendencies not because they are white. I do agree that if they were cornfed hilnillies they would be a lot more popular but that would be because they are American. America is extremely xenophobic and ethnocentric. People still refer to the United States as America when most of the world geographically defines "America" as both North and South America. But in regards to Floyd, I don't agree, but I see his point. I think a few rotten apples give a bad name to the bushel. You can't deny that overt racism existed in the US, esp. in boxing, i.e. Jack Johnson, Muhammad Ali, etc., but for the most part, those day are gone, though it would be foolish to think that NONE of those sentiments exist anymore. There are still those out there that hate Floyd because he is a rich, cocky loudmouth braggart, and then there are those that hate Floyd because he is a rich, black, cocky loudmouth braggart, but I don't think, at least consciously, the majority of boxing fans hate him for that reason, especially nobody on this board. If Floyd was a clean cut Sugar Ray Leonard type fighter, I would say he would be more popular if he had the same skill set, and was a clean cut white guy. But the real question is, would the US love Floyd if he was still this hypocritical cocky cunt AND white? That, I'm not really sure. This post has been edited by snoopnick: Sep 27 2009, 04:10 AM |

This whole pant load crock of shit about nobody liking the poor little Klit Bros. because they are not from America or Montana is TOTAL F'N BS EXCUSE MAKING NONSENSE!
I don't give a shit if they were from Montana, New York or California and bled red, white and blue.....if they fought as they do...people would STILL dislike them. They have a very unappealing style....that's not to say they are not talented or decent guys....they are....but their fights are BORING despite the wins. I get so aggrivated when I hear that Nationality noise.....how people can say that is beyond me, when you have numerous instances that refute that BS line of thinking. To this day Americans STILL talk about Ike Ibeabuchi and before his last few sorry outings Sam Peter had gained a pretty decent loyal fanbase....and they are both not American. BUT.....they earned that respect and fanbase by their actions in the ring. When Peter started to look like shit in the ring....fans turned their backs, Chris Byrd despite being talented AND American still to this day gets little respect for his ring accomplishments....WHY....because people saw him as a boring fighter that relied on defense and had little punching power. Eddie Chambers...AMERICAN....cannot get a huge fan base due to those same issues. ALL OF THAT...has ZERO to do with skin tone or map location....that has to with what is done in the ring. IF BOTH...Wlad and Vitali....hell even Valuev.....busted guys up and knocked them the fuck out in 1 or 2 rounds ala Tyson....Americans WOULD love them. IMHO Klit supporters that attempt to pull that race/location card as a reason why their favored HWs are not well liked are simply making excuses and looking past the real blame. It's an easy out to argue that...instead of defend crappy boring performances. |

America is extremely xenophobic and ethnocentric. People still refer to the United States as America when most of the world geographically defines "America" as both North and South America. Actually, it's quite the opposite. brother. I've been to a lot of countries, living in one now, and I never met a mother-fucker who knew America was a continent and not a country. Everytime I'm in a non-European country, people just assume I'm "American," as in the U.S.A. Even my British friends call the U.S. "America" and they fucking get it. Just like they get it when a person mistakenly identifies being "British" with "English." Let's look at 3 important facts here, when deciding why the U.S. is commonly referred to as "America" (by people around the world.) 1.) Yeah, America is a continent, but there is no country that uses "America" in it's name except for the U.S. 2.) The U.S. is the richest, most powerful nation in the history of the earth. It's not inconceivable that some people are going to attach some level of importance to that. No one gives a fuck about Canada. (Sorry Canadians, you know its true.) 3.) "America"is much more convenient for foreigners to say than "The United Statesof America." Referring to the U.S. as America cannot be xenophobic when the majority of the world's citizens are doing it too. It's just a misnomer. And one more thing... I've NEVER met anyone from South America who claimed to be "American." Colombians are Colombians, Brazilians are Brazilians, Venezuelans are Venezuelans. They get that shit too. It don't mean they agree with it, but they fucking get it. They never fucking claim to be "Americans." Canadians I'mma let you finish, but I just gotta say... I'm about to shit on you. You are the ONLY bitches who make a big fucking deal about being "Americans" too. Seriously, that shit is just insecurity talking. I swear to God, I met a Canadian dude the other day who told me, "Man, Chinese people don't even know Americans were the first ones on the moon." I'm like, "What's this "We" shit, dude? You didn't do shit down in Canada, that shit went down in the U.S. The REAL America." (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) Now watch this shit everybody. I'm joking here, but I guarantee you some mother-fucker with an insecurity problem is gonna roll up in here all butt-hurt and reply with some retarded "cry me a fucking river" rebuttal. |

Lennox Lewis was in the same boat. He tried to claim Canada who rejected him, tried to claim England who rejected him (in favor of Frank Bruno), and eventually tried to claim Jamaica, who never heard of him and wouldn't claim him if they did. Why? Because he was a boring ass, defensive-first fighter, just like the Klits. |

The whole Montana thing made it about race. Aint too many black people on Ranches in Montana. So Merchant saying if these two white guys were from Montana which is full of white guys they'd be more well received? Hmmmm....something doesn't compute. I agree with those who say it's about nationality more than race. The point was if they were AMERICANS there would be more love for them here, and that's probably true. I brought this up in another thread. *shrugs* |

Explain where the WE shit was... Decent post, but why dont Brazilians call themselves Americans. Why dont Canadians call themselves Americans. The country that the states unted to be is called America. It sits in North America, but this country is called America. We are called Americans for a reason. |

I am tired of this topic continually coming up of late on this board. Boxing is about skill and ability. Personality plays a big part in determining a fighters popularity, along with their own style in the ring. If people wanna discuss those aspects of the sport, fine by me, but leave the crying of persecution at the door. People muttering racist garbage on this site usually get shot down fairly quickly, so lets just leave it at that rather than seeing boogey men in every shadow Floyd and Merchant brought it up, man. It's not like people on here are just bringing out the race card out of nowhere. It's discussing it in the context of boxing, and reaction to boxing personalities throwing that idea out there. |

I brought this up in another thread. *shrugs* I agree that nationality plays part of the equation, but there are so many that claim race doesnt matter. Larry didnt choose Brooklyn or the Bronx or Atlanta for a reason. He said Montana which implies white. He put it out there and it has become an interesting point of discussion. Despite the few folks who come on here and want me to shut up and dont play the race card. I think its an interesting discussion. Larry Merchant thought it was relevant to bring up. I'm just nodding in agreement. |

Co-sign. With everything. And I like the Klits. But real is real. They don't get love because they fight cautious. Lennox Lewis was in the same boat. Why? Because he was a boring ass, defensive-first fighter, just like the Klits. I actually think that although many people rejected Lewis.....it is NOWHERE near the level that the Klits get it....but again that comes down to what is done in the ring. Lewis may have been defensive...but usually at some point he took guys out in spectacular fashion....the Klits don't do that. They are content to let the ref stop it or to continue the methotical beating into the late rounds.....Lewis would be defensive but really open it up when he had you hurt and tired. Think of the stoppages of Vitali here of late with Arreola, Gomez, WIlliams and even Sanders.....can you really recall those KOs? But then think about Lewis's stoppages of Briggs, Tyson, Rock, Grant. I'll bet you can actually see some of those in your mind....that's because at some point Lewis closed the gap and finished with combos that get you memorable KOs. Both Wlad and Vitali are content to stay on the outside till the bitter end..... Like I said....the dislike for the Klits stems from what is....and more to the point what is NOT done in the ring. End of story! |
