I agree that nationality plays part of the equation, but there are so many that claim race doesnt matter. Larry didnt choose Brooklyn or the Bronx or Atlanta for a reason. He said Montana which implies white. He put it out there and it has become an interesting point of discussion. Despite the few folks who come on here and want me to shut up and dont play the race card. I think its an interesting discussion. Larry Merchant thought it was relevant to bring up. I'm just nodding in agreement.

But my point is how is THIS situation about RACE?

Merchant suggested that two white guys in Europe would be more popular if they were from Montana, which you pointed out was full of white people.

The common factor there is they're white no matter what. If they were from Montana, they'd still be white.

If he said "if Floyd was from Montana he'd be more popular" okay I could see the point in there being about race.

But this is ....I don't see the RACE aspect to this.

I think it just boggles the mind how people get so bent out of shape over this.

Floyd brings up the race card on why he's not liked, people in boxing forums discuss that, and some people flip out screaming about how those posters keep bringing up race. But they didn't. They didn't bring up Race. They're DISCUSSING it. Some take sides, but they're discussing and debating the topic that was broached when Floyd brought it up.

Merchant makes a comment saying that if the Klitchskos were from the USA they'd be more popular, and some people take that as a race related question, others see it as a nationalist question.

And true to form some take offense at the discussion being participated in and the insinuation seems to be that these posters are just coming up with this stuff on their own. But they didn't. They didn't bring up Race/nationalism. Merchant did.

I understand what you're saying, and I agree with your opinions on Floyd being disliked because he's a prick, not because he's black.

But it just seems like you're getting upset at the wrong people. Take your frustration out on Floyd and Merchant for introducing the topic in the first place, not the people in the forum who are discussing/debating the topic.

I found this remark particularly offensive, in direct reply to my own "Some people really hate to talk about race. Race card... That term was probably invented by racists to counteract every claim of racism by black folks." Implying that i am racist because i think there is no credence to the argument in this scenario... fuck that cunt. He cant even see the irony in that he is sayng that only non-blacks can be racist

But in regards to Floyd, I don't agree, but I see his point. I think a few rotten apples give a bad name to the bushel. You can't deny that overt racism existed in the US, esp. in boxing, i.e. Jack Johnson, Muhammad Ali, etc., but for the most part, those day are gone, though it would be foolish to think that NONE of those sentiments exist anymore. There are still those out there that hate Floyd because he is a rich, cocky loudmouth braggart, and then there are those that hate Floyd because he is a rich, black, cocky loudmouth braggart, but I don't think, at least consciously, the majority of boxing fans hate him for that reason, especially nobody on this board.

I agree especially on the Jack Johnson part although his cavalier attitude certainly would not have won him any friends in the post Victorian puritannical era combined with the racism that was instilled in a very young age in the south made for a bad combination. As for Ali he was a overt racist & braggart. Ove rtime he earnt peoples respect by his willingness & accomplishment inside the ring & he usually backed up his bold predictions with his heart & ability.

If Floyd was a clean cut Sugar Ray Leonard type fighter, I would say he would be more popular if he had the same skill set, and was a clean cut white guy. But the real question is, would the US love Floyd if he was still this hypocritical cocky cunt AND white? That, I'm not really sure.

People hate Floyd because he is a egotistical loud mouthed braggart who makes bold predictions & then does not even attempt to back them up in the ring. Ray Leonard was a cocky SOB as well but he made big fights happen & did not flaunt himself in the shameless manner that Floyd does. Colour may have a part however small in it but of the three biggest drawing fighters since the advent of PPV 2 were black & one was latino. That speaks volumes to me.

Actually, it's quite the opposite. brother. I've been to a lot of countries, living in one now, and I never met a mother-fucker who knew America was a continent and not a country. Everytime I'm in a non-European country, people just assume I'm "American," as in the U.S.A. Even my British friends call the U.S. "America" and they fucking get it. Just like they get it when a person mistakenly identifies being "British" with "English."

I can see where you're coming from. People know what you're talking about when you say "American", but from my experience, they'll usually correct you.

And one more thing... I've NEVER met anyone from South America who claimed to be "American." Colombians are Colombians, Brazilians are Brazilians, Venezuelans are Venezuelans. They get that shit too. It don't mean they agree with it, but they fucking get it. They never fucking claim to be "Americans."

I hate to pull rank, but I've lived in Colombia and Venezuela, not to mention Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras, and Peru. Also visited Costa Rica, Ecuador, Argentina, Chile, hell, even people in Spain were like, "Oh you mean NORTE Americano" or "Estado Unidense" (which is a term I wish we had in English), when I would say "Yo soy Americano". And I also said, "geographically defined" meaning most kids learn in grade school that there are only 6 continents, not 7. So at least from my international experience, which I would have to say is vaster than most, people have taken offense to me saying, "I'm American." And to be fair, just because it hasn't happened to you, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. But yes, they know what my once ethnocentric ass was talking about. LOL.
