Let's be real. Toney has a "punchers chance" but its very unlikely. If Randy gets his hands on Toney in any way shape or form its over for Toney. The only chance Toney has is to sneak in a punch before Randy takes him down or pushes him against the fence. In order for Toney to stop the take down his sprawl has to be pretty damn good. Considering his lack of experience (in sprawling) and his age, it's very unlikely that he will be able to sprawl at all to avoid Randy's take down. The idea that he will hit Randy and knock him out if Randy goes for his legs is ridiculous. It never happens. Randy will be too low to the ground for Toney to connect. Once Randy has hold of Toney he'll tie up his arms and neutralize his punching. Then he'll take him down. When he mounts Toney, Toney says he knock out Randy from the bottom. Come on. Randy will rain down punches and Toney will give him his back to avoid getting hit in the face. All over.

For those of you who think this fight is fixed, you've been watching boxing too long. UFC has proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that it operates for the overall good of the sport and the UFC, rather than for the good of an individual promoter and boxers, as in boxing. UFC is straight up. Randy is straight up. Dana White isn't going to sacrifice the integrity of the sport for this one fight.

I agree with this, but especially the bottom bit. Dana White knows hes on a winner with UFC and its stacking up pretty well against boxing these days, maybe not the superfights, but in general. Theres no point in risking all that by fixing the outcome one way or the other. Couture wins, the ignorant among MMA fans get high on how much better than boxing MMA is, Toney wins, it sets up a legitimate massive fight with anyone else in contention in the HW division.

I think this event will probably do decent numbers so why risk fucking it all up in front of a large audience

I'm picking Toney to win. Only because I think it will be some rigged BS...it might look real...but in the end it's BS to get Toney another fight at MMA/UFC.

Toney's mouth earns to much potential money for Dana White and his supposed hatred for boxing....

I hate Dana White, but as several others have already stated, you aren't gonna see fixed fights in the UFC. It is a sole enterprise, like the NFL or NBA. The owners of these orgs actually care about their business. They understand the market. They have a clear philosophy.

Boxing doesn't. Don't get the two sports mixed up.

QUOTE
This is the setup for some BS like back in the day at WWF with Sone Cold and Jim M. Ge Toney a couple wins in UFC and all the talking to get him and White in the ring together....

I don't think you even believe what you just typed.

I HATE MMA!

It's a pity to see such pre-conditioned responses like this. A good fight is a good fight, man. It doesn't matter where it happens. You guys can pretend to watch boxing for the "sweet science" all you want, but in reality, it's still two guys beating the snot out of each other. I mean, let's not muck about here. We're entertaining ourselves with the pain and violence of others.

So much the sweeter when we have 2 real practitioners of pain, who are skilled enough to go to war, dishing out and receiving ungodly amounts of punishment.

This is what we want.

Period.

In boxing we rarely, if ever, see two prime guys going up against each other. If we do, it's because they've ducked and dodged and bitched and moaned to the point that they finally place themselves into a corner, and have no other choice. (Much like David Haye and Floyd Gayweather are in the process of doing.)

In MMA you get prime guys going at it every goddamn month, from the top of the card to the bottom. And money is never an issue. These guys are fighting for peanuts and a carton of orange juice. If this were happening in boxing you'd be nutting all over yourself.

Ultimately I don't give two shits about this.

The ignorant young fans of MMA will say that this proves MMA is superior if Randy wins. If Toney wins, it sets up some big money fights with either Dos Santos or Lesnar.

The only thing that would make UFC remotely interesting is if Toney wins.

Well obviously you do, because you clicked on the thread and then took enough time out of your busy day to write out a response.

You know what I do if I really don't give two shits about something? I ignore it completely.

For a guy that doesn't give two shits about this you've made some interesting projections about the future should Toney win. Why bother?

The UFC would still be doing its thing with or without James Toney. This coming from a HUGE James Toney fan who actually wants Toney to win, regardless of the dumb shit boxing fans would be saying if that were the case.

I recomend watching toneys interview with joe rogan at ufc.com. Its a decent interview where toney actually talks some sense rather than his usual garbage.

He points out some legitimate gripes with striking in MMA. Like the deficiency in rolling with punches. However he is ignorant in the vulnerability of fighters coming in with the shoot. If you cant defend the shoot, you only have one chance to land a punch as your opponent comes in. One punch is all you get. I honestly believe toney would lose to the best middleweight grapplers. Chael Sonnen would embarass toney despite a huge weight disadvantage. Hell, i think GSP would take him down. That guy is a fucking champion at shooting

To be honest, i wouldnt mind if toney won. What i want to see is the best of the best, the greatest fighter being crowned, whether that is a diverse skillset (MMA) or a specialist skillset (boxing). I dont really care about style preferences. Well to be honest, i hate floyd because of his safety first style, i want to see two guys go at it till one falls. I am happy as long as 2 guys come to genuinely fight. I think toney has the skills and attitude to truly represent the sport of boxing in the pain game. Maybe he is not prime, but there is no-one in the heavyweight division as skilled and old school as toney

As an afterthought, Toney stated he would like to face Brock is he wins vs Couture. Brock rapes toney. They might as well give Brock a jar of vaseline before he enters the octagon, to prevent him tearing his foreskin
