This post isn't about Mayweather vs Mosley PPV #'s. I was just curious if PPV numbers could be inflated by promoters, not necessarily them lying about it. Just think that you're Golden Boy or Bob Arum and your show is doing 500 - 700 k, however these kind of numbers might not give you enough leverage on the negotiating table for future bouts. So let's say Arum or Schaeffer are looking at the PPV tally and they decide midweek through the tally to purchase 100, 200, 300k, etc. I am sure they could find the resources where some people, somebody, they could purchase the additional PPVs in order to boost the final # of PPVs. Now they won't get all the money back, but it's an investment for future dates on HBO PPV and bargaining power with other promoters/athletes as well as casinos and sites, and advertisement. So if Arum or Schaeffer decide to purchase themselves another 300k pay per view, they put into their own promotion another 16.5 million in revenue. The cable companies would keep some, the fighters would keep some unless they are in the clear and in accordance with the inflated #'s. HBO PPV, I don't believe they make a lot of money from PPVs , I read an interview with Ross Greenburg and he said that they make less on PPV shows than on non-pay per view shows (he could be lying though). What do you think about that and if you were a promoter/fighter would you be ok with this kind of investment? I definitely would be ok, both as a promoter and fighter. In these days, perceptions are everything.

Never believe anything that comes out of a promoter's mouth is usually the way I look at it when it comes to numbers and many other things boxing related.

In these days, perceptions are everything. GBP could`ve inflated the 1.2 million ppvs to 1.7 by purchasing another 500,000 and creating the value that is not there. Unless, they`ve already done that with the rumoured 1.2 million buys. |

I'm not sure where that really good story on the IRS figures for the PBF/JMM fight disappeared to but sounded kinda fishy to me. |
