Everytime i come across Andre Dirrell i often find myself feeling sorry. Dirrell is one of the most gifted and athletic boxers i have ever seen inside that squared circle. I mean his skills, reflexes, agility, accuracy, stamina, POWER, speed (ESPECIALLY for a super middle weight). Dirrell has the ENTIRE package. And to see Carl Froch in the position he is in now in big money fights as a current IBF world champion. Crowned with the honor of testing his skills against Andre Ward, exposing Lucian Bute, being a 2x world champion, and now having a big money fight with Mikkel Kessler. I just think to myself imagine if there was never a robbery in Nottingham in that Froch -Dirrell fight. Dirrell could've been in the position that Froch is in now, or better yet the position that Ward is in right now as the #2 P4P figther in the world. To see Dirrell now with no big money fights- actually no fights AT ALL is disheartening. All that talent, all those skills, all that potential not given the opportunity to be showcased to the fans. All that hardwork, those late nights and early mornings putting in work, and nothing to show for it...
What do you guys think of Andre Dirrell and his situation? |

I agree with you that this guy has the skills and reflexes. He's a gifted athlete. However, I think he lacks a fighters mentality. He doesnt always use his skills and reflexes and natural advantages over fighters. He settles for holding and running around the ring without throwing punches. His antics cost him in the perception of the public. In the Froch fight, he did a bit too much holding and running, if I remember correctly. We all must come to grips that it was a close fight on the other guys lawn. It was the Abraham fight that really did him in. There were many as you felt, who thought Dirrell beat Froch. I wasnt so convinced. The way the Abraham fight ended, tainted this guy. He was beating the breaks off Abraham. Abraham started to get to him late in the fight. It was pretty apparent. Arthur Abraham's 12th round KO over Jermaine taylor was still fresh in a lot of minds, possibly Dirrell's too. Then the ugly happened. Many people say he took the dive and forced the DQ because he got caught with a few good shots. Many people felt it was a legit injury. Only he knows. My opinion is that he took the dive and the victory. |

I hear you, but he apparently got a lucrative deal from SMS (or should I say Mini-TR ). He was in the ring two weekends ago and won nicely.
Hopefully that's the beginning of more activity for him. I like Dirrell and expect more from him as long as SMS don't flop. This post has been edited by Cheesey1: Feb 18 2013, 04:33 PM |

Also, Abraham hasn't said squat about a rematch, but Dirrell has said he'd fight Abraham again. If Abraham feels he was robbed then he should ask for a rematch.
Abraham's a dirty boxer and has no interest in fighting Dirrell again. |

It wasn't a televised fight but I'm just happy to see him fighting again. He's wasting his prime and his career with this inactive crap, and I really doubt he'd still be with 50 if he and Gamboa hadn't of took money upfront.
I don't feel sorry for Dirrell, he can do that all by himself when he looks back at his career and sees that he wasted big opportunities. I think he beat Froch and I think Abraham knew he had no way to win and HE found a way out of the fight. Like someone said, he aint beating down Direll's door for a rematch. If they were to rematch I say Andre whoops him even worse the 2nd time. Dirrell is just better then him. I said long ago that if anyone could and would beat Ward, it would be Andre. He has the physical gifts to offset the craftiness of Ward, but at this point I hope they never fight because Andre only fights once every 2 yrs. At this point, I'd just be happy to see him win a title |

I think Dirrell is good but not great. That said, he has a lot of talent. I think that injury he sustained vs Abraham was probably worse than anyone thought. It's a shame what's happened to him. I thought he beat Froch. I thought he was schooling Abraham. It's a shame he's far below them on the totem pole.

Who did he fight and where? It must have been a non televised fight. Yup, it wan't televised. He fought Michael Gbenga, a boxer from Ghana. While Gbenga isn't anything special, he's another tough Ghanaian and Dirrell had everything under control. Dirrell vs. Gbenga |

I wouldn't be surprised if Kelly Pavlik mysteriously unretires to face Andre Dirrell sometime soon. I say that because Pavlik's a TR boxer and Dirrell's with SMS who are apparently attached at the hip to TR.
