Would be one for the ages. Gavilan despite not being a big puncher, was a very strong, physical fighter apparentley, and had very good skills, giving Sugar Ray two of his toughest fights ever. In Hearns, Gavilan would get alot of what he saw in with the height and reach, hand speed, power, etc. I think its a back and forth fight with Hearns winning early, then Gavilan taking control in the mid rounds, and down the stretch going back and forth. I think Hearns pulls it off barely, hanging on as a strong closing Gavilan makes it close, and then of course the Kid will say he was robbed.

Hearns via 15 round UD.

I would take Heanrs by very close decision.

Gavilan is tough as nails and an awkward customer, very accurate with his punching. But doesn't really have the brute strength or power to walk Tommy down and I can't see him doing enough to outbox him, but he would go very very close in that department.
