Here is a topic I don't see discussed often.

How do you recover from injuries you suffer during training ??

Do you have a system of recovery ??

Do you back off from training hard and go light for awhile until you recover ??

Do you stop altogether until you're healed ??

Ask Jonny's Trainer. He will have all the old school answers & most of them will involve being a man & training through it, chewing tar & brining.

Well brining your face & chewing a tar like substance will do the following.

Brining your face will toughen it like old leather. When did you ever hear of Manassa Jack suffering a cut? He may have had a face like 5 miles of bad road but he pulled more pussy than a Chinese takeaway. That is not very practical today because fighters like Cotto & DLH use metro mosturisers & toners as well as shaving their vaginas.

Chewing tar or a leather strap will increase your jaw strength & ability to absorb punishment. Again not so popular today due to the abundance of metro vaginal shaving so called fighters who fight once a year.

As for training through a injury well that is pretty silly.

Funny stuff there, STEVENSKI -

I've read stories about the bizaar and crazy practice of brining and rubbing bull piss on your face to toughen it up.

But that was for an era where guys did battle gladiator style - they fought face-first and was proud of it. Manly-men who didn't give a sh*t how much punishment they took -- as long as their opponent suffered the worst beating of the two. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

During that time it was a blast to tell the kids, family and friends where you got each and every scar on your face. and when you went to the local brothel, it was full of babes that loved the battle-scars ... The sweet old days are gone forever.

Now we have prince's & princesses who prance around the ring in fear of scars and marks on their faces. The desire to really see who is the toughest, baddest man\woman on the planet has been replaced by the darlings of the sport.

We're in a totally different era now -- I guess it was all the brain damage, concussions, cracked eye sockets and the such, that made the new era of boxers favor the 'Sweet Science' of kicking ass -- while NOT taking an ass-whippin in return.

I tell you, watching the sweet science, when its done right -- nothing like it!!! ..... But it doesn't compare to the down & dirty face busting, gladiator style of doing battle. Now that's excitement!!!!

Back to the brining\bull-piss ........... Since I'm not getting paid millions to box professionally ... I'll pass.

Plus, I have a loving lady at home that has 'Being A Pain In The Ass' down to a science. And its in my best interest, not to give her any ammo to startup with.

Well brining will mean a lack of cuts so it is up to you. There is nothing that will prevent you from a bit of tar chewing though.

Personally i train harder, I've found that my injuries linger if i back off, and heal faster the harder i work. Good bloodflow from cardio will get injuries healing faster. Though of course, i avoid aggrevating whatever is injured. When i was younger i had wrist problems, havn't had wrist problems in a long time but when i did i wouldn't work the heavy bag for a few days. Once in a while i have lower back pain from an injury i suffered as a teen, if it acts up i make sure to avoid excercises that aggrevate it, if i train hard the pain is gone in 2-3 days, when i used to back off it would last weeks.

Not everyones the same, and some people think i'm wrong. To each their own, but i understand my body and what works for me.

I really back off when I get one of those deeeep muscle injuries ... I got a little one now just under the right shoulder-blade because I've really been loading up on the heavy bag. But while I was just lifting weights ... never got any injuries to speak of and I pull decent weight.

Minor injuries, I've found, can be worked through .. just change your routine so that you're not pulling the same muscle group.

And you're absolutely right, nobodies the same ... so, you have to push yourself to find your limits and then gauge how your body recovers.

I have a lower back injury as well from a lifetime of athletics. During my rehab, they had me watch a back school video to help me know what to do when I feel pain. I thought it would say to lay off of it, but it actually said the opposite...

You have to break the cycle by staying active while in pain...so JonnysTrainer is CORRECT!

I think you just have to be sensible and listen to your body.



When I've been injured, depending on the injury, I've trained through it, rested and done some light training. All depends on what the injury is.


I slipped a disc in my back, so when I did that, obviously I did nothing. I did fuck all for a few weeks.


I hyper extended my arm and just done some light training to keep in the swing of things. Focused on other things, like weight training on my legs, running and kicking (I do kickboxing (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) )


Sometimes, with other injuries and illnesses, I've trained through them like nothings wrong. Sometimes I'm fine, sometimes I cause more injury or make things worse.


I think it's just a case of being sensible and knowing your limits when injured.
