I didn't say it was right, or even smart. I just said I enjoyed it and thought it was funny because Tito pisses me off.
I'm not surprised that Griffin-Bonnar was voted #1, or that it gets so much attention, but what is even more important than the start of the feud at UFC 40 is the FREE broadcast on Spike of the 3rd fight, with all the buildup, even though the fight was dreadful. That move resonated with the fanbase, and provided widespread visibility that has grown to a huge level since (and isn't slowing down). Boxing really needs that too. Despite the fact that I can't stand him, and enjoy watching Liddell knock him out over and over, he's right about the money and he's right about Dana White in many ways. What Frank Mir got paid last weekend was absolutely insulting. 45K with a 45K bonus for a win, while Lesnar's BASE pay was 400K. I'm not saying Mir should have gotten what St. Pierre did, but Lesnar shouldn't have gotten what GSP got either. The pay is awful. Should they be demanding Money May kind of paydays? No. But the overall finances are ridiculous, especially considering the kind of cash the sport is generating at present. I remember watching the early, EARLY UFC's, back in the tournament and superfight days, and it's amazing how far things have come since then. Ortiz, and a few others, deserve a great deal of credit for the surge in the last few years. That can't be questioned. He just pisses me off. One thing's for sure... Dana's going to have to knock off these stupid demands if he wants Fedor to show up. Fedor-Lesnar would EASILY be the biggest selling PPV ever. Dana knows it, but Fedor knows it too, and he should absolutely hold out for a fair shake. I stand by my Jenna Jameson material. |
