I'd say that many of the folks mentioned made it in spite of the racial barriers. They made it because they are so much better than the competition that doors were forced open rather than opened by welcoming arms. I may be a bit more cynical than you and snoop though...

Obama didn't force any doors open, my friend. This is the United States of America, where our leaders are elected by the people, according to their own free will. There is no man who can become president on his own. He must have the support of the majority. Obama would've never been president if the only people who voted for him were people of color.

On the contrary, there were many people of color who didn't vote for Obama, for fear that he would, at some point, try to tax them just because they fell into an income bracket higher than that of middle class.

In closing, I acutally think that being black helped Obama. The youth especially saw this as a way to make a complete break from the old generation. You guys were there. You saw it. The comparison to MLK. Obama was everything different, and people embraced that, because that's what they wanted. People felt like he could bring change, which is, again, what they wanted.

Ditto for Tiger Woods. I think being black helped Tiger. Golf wasn't on anyone's radar before Tiger Woods. Jack Nicklaus may be the greatest golfer that ever lived, but you never saw him making over $100 million in endoresments a year. Tiger brought that new audience, because he was doing something the American public had never seen before. If he'd been just another white guy, he would've never gotten that press. NEVER.

Look at Danica Patrick from the IRL, she's in the same fucking boat. She can't race for shit, she sucks balls. But she's the biggest name in her sport because she's a woman. NASCAR is trying to do everything they can right now to get her, and to get a black driver too. You know why? Because they see dollar signs. They know having minorities and women in sports guarantees a new market, and a shitload of money. They'd get right down on their knees and suck down a pint of cum to get a black man into the sport, and hype him to HOLY HELL just so they could watch their sport grow even bigger.

In the U.S. money is king. If it don't make dollars it don't make sense. And Racism don't make sense.

There ain't no Jack Johnsons anymore, fellas. No Jackie Robinsons. They did their thing and it was beautiful. All there is left now is a room full of decrepit old rich men who want to get richer, and know how to do it. The majority of the rest of you are just playing into whatever role has been created for you by the mass-media or your own inequities.

On the subject of obama, i think it is funny he is recieving so much opposition to his health care reforms. America has one of the worst systems of health in the developed world. It has been taken over by giant insurance agencies. He tries to help the average man, and they accuse him of being a socialist... LOL. It is completely ridiculous. Let me ask you this. You dial 911, someone is in your house with a gun trying to murder you, do you want to have to quote yur insurance info and credit card number before the police help you. Same with the fire dept, please hold while we verify these details and try not to catch fire in the mean time... Your police and fire departments, are they run by socialists, commies, reds under the bed... LOL...

The average american was screwed by the reagan privitisation folly, free market improving service my ass. Certain things should be 90% state run. Health, police, education, transport. Let the free market dictate everything else, but basic services should be free for all.

And the conversation takes another turn...I'm amazed at how this is all under the main thread of Klitschko vs. Arreola.

Look some of the most popular & highest grossing actors of the last 20 years have been black. They are not popular because they are black they are popular because they are believable actors not limited in what roles they can play.

Guys like Deniro, Crowe & Will Smith all make you believe they are the role not the actor when they make a movie. That is why they are such great actors. Skin colour has nothing to do with it.

I have stayed out of this convo since it's pointless and don't feel like gettin in this shit like most of us..

These 2 paragraphs from Steve should end this shit..Perfect examples and should of made things perfectly clear..Factor needs to chill out for real..

Meth you are right. Though we may disagree about why there is a hole, there is a hole nonetheless. I'm through going post by post and rebutting, cause I'll be here all day. I think its safe to say that many of you disagree and say there is no racial component to marketing and popularity of fighters. Also that Larry Merchant wasnt talking about that in his post fight statement about the Klits. Many of you say its nationalistic and I should stop there. I stand firm and say that I agree that there is a nationalistic component, but also a racial component involved in the popularity and marketing of fighters.

If any of you guys who do the interviews on the front page get the chance, I'd love to hear a few fighters and promotors candid points of view on the subject. Hell ask a few of them about the Rocky franchise too because I'd hate to think that me and Eddie Murphy are the only ones who thought that the Rocky films had an impact that reached into racial lines.

Hey, Eugene. You are an african-american and have been quite. I don't want to drag you into this if you don't want to, but I would like to hear your opinion on this. Everybody knows racism exists some where, but do you agree to the extent with the issues that Original Factor is mentioning?

For the record I'm not African American. I'm a Black American...I've never been to Africa a day in my life (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) JK. I haven't responded cause I haven't gotten to read his post along with the others. I'm at work and for the first time in a while I've been busy so I haven't been as active on the boards today. I leave here in 30 minutes and will log on when I get home, read his post and following post, and then respond.

Will Smith cant hold a fucking candle to Deniro or Crowe. He's the Fresh Prince of Bel Aire, and he always will be.

Factor, I see where you're coming from on most of what you say. I probably agree with most of what you say based on the 10% I read (sorry, I just haven't had time to read all of it). But I agree with the rest of em that what Larry said last Sat had more to do with nationality rather than race. But I also think anyone who doesn't think race has a component in marketing is fooling themselves. All you gotta really do is step into a local boxing gym and see how people talk about other fighters. It may not be racist, it may not have malice, but it's talked about nonetheless and regardless if it's conscious or subconscious, it has an effect.

And Rocky most definitely has a racial component. Factor and Eddie Murphy are NOT the only ones that take race into the equation. I don't know what everyone on the board considers themselves racially, but regardless what "color" you are on here, everyone has different ways of looking at the world based on their experience. To say one is invalid or wrong is just being ignorant of someone else's experience. For the purposes of this argument, if you can't see the racial impact of a movie such as Rocky, you probably just don't have the same social outlook on life as the other person, probably because you haven't had the same experience, or just have had different ones. It's not wrong, just different.
