His attitude coming in against matt hughes was completely different. he looked like a different fighter even before the fight started. No disrespect to Frankie edgar. I just wonder if BJ cutting to 155 just became to hard at his age. He will be a smaller 170 pd fighter, but personally i think that is where he belongs now. the John Fitch fight will tell us more, alot more.

Penn belongs at 155. His loss to edgar is just a case of style mismatch. Penn is too flat footed, because he is comfortable in his boxing to stand and trade, because he knows he will come off with the best of the exchanges. Edgar knew this, and so he employed a darting in and out approach which maximized his speed advantage and emphasized penns flat footed-ness. Penn didnt have enough time to adapt a movement oriented game plan for the rematch, so it was a case of rinse and repeat.

The reason he should have stayed at 155 is that apart from edgar, no-one can beat penn. Edgar may very well lose his next defence, against the only man to have defeated him in Maynard. Should that happen, it opens all the doors for penn reclaiming the title. He may have only been one or two stepping stone fights away from another shot given that he had been a dominant champion. Should edgar retain his title however, that would have been the time to start looking up a division

Fitch will, like GSP, outwrestle penn and bully him on the ground. I dont see penn getting a title shot at 170. There are some very good strikers in that division, and penn is just too small.
