I just put $100 Mayorga at +600 - just too good to pass on.

The thing is, for another hundred I could win enough to pay for the trip out to Vegas. I have to believe that these odds are going to shrink. It's not like Cotto looked particularly tough in his fight with the overrated/feather fisted Foreman. And I can't get the image of Cotto quitting against Marg out of my head. And the Pac fight had to have taken whatever confidence Cotto had left.

i think its a safe bet for the odds sal... a hundred is not over the top on mayorga in this fight... cotto has a lot of question marks right now and foreman showed in that loss how hittable he is... mayorga is a very live dog here...

to a degree beardo... he did beat forrest twice and many thought he had mosley beat going into that last round... he seems to thrive when guys try to box him... i thought he beat corey spinks when he was still good... lost a majority decision to vargas... beat a good solid fighter in michelle piccirillo... he's not a gate keeper... id say maybe he's a gate keeper to the guys that want to be considered an elite fighter maybe?...

To be fair, what I REALLY wanted to do (and will) is put money on Mayo by stoppage, but, the fight being so far away, the ONLY thing Sportsbook.com has odds on right now is to pick the winner (not how they win). I only laid $50 on Mayo to win $300 (as I want to see if those odds widen or not). If the odds widen, I will continue to add to that position. My real interest is in the odds of Mayo by stoppage, because if he is +600 to win, he's gotta be +1000 to win by stoppage (which, let's face it, is the only way he wins). Big size advantage here (when you see these two stand back to back). What's more, they BOTH look out of shape yesterday.

yall boys are laying smart money... not too much to notice if he loses but enough for a nice score on an outside shot if he wins... mayorga is very live and i think he feels he can win this one which judging by the cotto i feel ive seen in his last few fights he (mayorga) can very well win this fight...

I'm at sportsbook as well. At +1000 I'm in by stoppage too, but sportsbook has been weak lately and hasn't offered much more than straight bets for boxing.

It will be interesting to see if Mayoraga can get under Cotto's skin.... Seems he already has judging by the way Cotto reacted when he said "I didn't interrupt you don't interrupt me!"..... Seems like there was a little bit more conversation as Cotto went on to say " I beat Shane Mosely! Remember Shane Mosely?".......never hearf Cotto react like that... Or at least that's how it sounds... It will be interesting to see the video

Certainly Cotto should win. I agree with everyone that this fight is a good gauge for where Cotto is at.

Mayorga with the exception of the Forrest fights, which were a long time ago, doesn't beat top guys. The good news is that he doesn't lay down for them either. He's not the type of guy that gets blown out in a round or two. Against Trinidad, Mosley and DLH he stood in there and took a lot of firepower before getting stopped.

Mayorga has fought 2 fights above 160 and has a couple of inches on Cotto and like that picture suggests he's the naturally bigger guy. I actually think Cotto's boxer/puncher style Steward is working on is great generally speaking for Cotto, but possibly not great for this fight... I feel like that style is more training Cotto to plan on going the distance, and "if the KO comes it comes" type thing. I don't really see Cotto coming away with a decision against Mayorga like Spinks did for example. Not because I don't think Cotto can win a decision against Mayorga, certainly I think he can but he always does his best work early in fights. Late in fights Cotto seems to fade a bit in the stamina department and from taking punishment it just wears him down. I think Cotto's best bet for THIS fight would be more to simply take it TO Mayorga. Show Mayorga that he's been in with the top guys lately and is a top fighter, that Mayorga is yesterdays news.

When I think of Mosley, DLH and Trinidad stopping Mayorga I see a lot of their success coming from having that kind of attitude; they went out there and threw punches with bad intentions looking to hurt the guy and break him down. They fought with controlled aggression as in they weren't sloppy but took it to him. I think it would be a mistake if Cotto just "came out and boxed" because I don't think that would get Mayorga's respect and begin to break him down. That style allows Mayorga to stay in the fight longer, giving him more confidence and extending Cotto into waters he has already proven he has trouble staying afloat in.

Interesting perspective, but I disagree. Cotto needs to protect his chin at all times in this fight. I have never trusted Cotto's chin, and he doesn't need to be giving Mayorga any chances here especially after his fights with Margarito and Pacquiao. I think this really is a fight where Cotto needs to box smart and simply wait for the KO to come. Trinidad, DLH, and Mosley were able to bully the bully because of their firepower and also because of their good chins. And yes, Trinidad's chin was better than Cotto's.

If Cotto gets too aggressive, he might get caught or he might gas even earlier than we've seen before. The way I see it, he can still stop Mayorga if he fights a smart, patient fight. Timing and accurate shots will do the trick, especially to the body. I'm calling it Cotto by 8th round TKO.
