I'm not going to get into a circular argument with you. His resume is great. He USED to be a very good fighter. He's not anymore. NO ONE that gets whooped the way he did is one of the top 10 fighters in the sport. Why can't they? It's not like great fighters of the past haven't come back from devastating defeats. He's had spirited fights against Diaz and Katsidis, both in which he exhibited superior skill and talent, especially at his age. And not too long before that, he made the supposed P4P King look pretty damn mediocre in a rematch. So why is one able to redeem himself and the other isn't? |

Not sure how people can take so much away from Marquez losing to Mayweather, and/or give Mayweather so much credit in beating a much smaller Marquez. A p4p#2-3 fighter at the time, losing to a p4p#1 fighter shouldn't hurt a guys ranking so badly (even if Marquez was put away in the second like he should have), specially when Marquez was 3 or so divisions past his best weight at his advanced age. To me, that fight is so irrelevant, it's close to being non-exsistant, as it was such a poor matchup. Marquez has fought more than Mayweather since and feel you can compare Marquez victories against Diaz and Katsidids to Mayweathers one victory over an inactive, old Mosley!

So, using your "logic", there is no way Pacquiao could be in the top ten P4P seeing as he's basically fought on equal terms in two fights with Marquez. Why not try removing your head from your ass. Marquez is easily top 5 P4P... EDIT: Now that I'm thinking about it, considering Marquez' and Pacquiao's recent body of work - if Juan goes up to 140 and beats Bradley - I'd rate him ahead of Pacquiao P4P... You're referencing a fight series that started 8 years ago in regards to the CURRENT P4P rankings, yet I'm the one with my head in my ass? |

Yeah, and in those 8 years he's only been beaten by the guy who's P4P #1 in the world - in a fight 2 or 3 weight classes above his prime fighting weight. Yes, you are the one with your head up your ass. If Marquez isn't worthy to be in the P4P top 10 then niether is Pacquiao... This post has been edited by Nay_Sayer: Feb 22 2011, 03:35 PM |

I mean, how long should he be given? |

Maxy has a point about whether Mayweather should still be ranked number 2 P4P. He beat Mosley in May and has not done anything since, while guys like Martinez, Marquez, Donaire and Bradley have fought the best in their divisions, multiple times now.
