I cannot believe I missed out on a great job because during the medical I failed my piss test.

Great job & great company. I went through 6 hours of interviews & having to prepare & present a full on powerpoint to a board for assesment. I was told I had the job yesterday I just need to do a medical.

I did the medical & passed with flying colours. That was when they brought the piss cup for me to use & I knew I was shot.

I am not a druggie or anything I just smoke the odd puff on the weekends & it NEVER has interfered with my job. I seriously cannot believe I was knocked back for having THC in my system. Then again I don't think I want to work for a company that invades it's employees privacy by conducting random urine tests.

If there is anything I can take from this it is that I was the best candidate for the role & had it on lock bar the test. I also know my market value is considerably more than what my current employer is paying me to the tune of $50K.

That sucks. You had no idea before hand, that they required drug tests? My friend who is an electrician was applying for a government project, and knew that they required drug tests. No different to you. He isn't a druggie or anything, just smoked at times. He stopped for a couple of weeks before, and would have sauna's when we would go for a swim. He passed it.

ANYTIME you have a huge interview...even when you have "heard" there is no test...ALWAYS assume there is and stay clean for a week or two prior to the interview...

it's the only way to be sure.

Then again I know places that even AFTER you have been hired make you take random tests....so even if youhad scored the job it could have been just a matter of time.

Yeah they do do random piss tests. I was shot anyway as it was only 2 weeks from the first interview to the test & I know it stays in my fat cells for at least 6 weeks.

My wife considers weed akin to heroin. If you actually only smoke it occasionally, you may want to consider quitting for the sake of your career and your relationship. On the other hand, you may want to do what the fuck you want when you want and suffer the consequences of your choices, at least partly out of defiance.

But the question really = Am I undermining my own potential?

Weed slows people down in most cases. It also slows your life down.

I'm sorry man...I start on Monday and they said a huge part of the reason was because my super fast, unsluggish, non-munchie craving, ganja free blood really impressed them when they looked under the microscope.

I agree. I was a chronic pothead for many years so I certainly know the score. No green for me until I land a new gig.
