NOW, if they were to post some of that shit on television or in articles, then what would be a huge hit to society and proof that ignorance and racism is still at an all-time high. Again, I dont defend him, but some people really need to chill with the "kettle calling the pot black" syndrome. You are absolutely correct here, his remarks against Pacquio were very stupid and it definitely put him in a bad light. But hs recent comments are being taken out of context in my opinion. A racist is a racist, no matter of the person is in the spotlight or not, the comments made towards Mayweather as far as being a monkey, coon, etc are very inflammatory but fr the most part that stuff gets ignored. I just don't get it, because he's a celebrity he makes a comment and now he's racist, but what about those on blogs, YouTube vids and other platforms. Racist people and the practice of racism should never get a pass, he was wrong in his remarks against Manny but if they were to somehow capture the spectrum of comments made against Floyd then they might rethink their opinion. I've seen many comments where they say Floyd will lose to Manny because he's a cocky N word or because he eats chicken. I think the people who chose to ignore the other side of the coin are hypocrites This post has been edited by mrchitown: Feb 17 2012, 03:13 PM |

It amazed me watching people who went on and on how great it was for the NBA brand overall that Lin did well because of his ethnicity then turn around and trash Mayweather for basically pointing out the same thing. I suspect Floyd made them “uncomfortable” by pointing out that black players have been doing it every night on the regular.
That’s when the blizzard of phony Lin “records” (pts scored in the first 5 games...why not 6 or 7 or 3..) went into high gear along with the usual coded foolishness like how he “was a breath of fresh air”, “how it was great he wasn’t tatted up”, “how he went to Harvard”, and how his underdog story was somehow “different” than all the dudes before him who toiled in the D league, even before it was called that, and bounced from team to team on short looks before they got the right situation and got some decent burn. Btw, to Mayweather’s point about black players doing it every day: Lin's last game: Lin – 10pts 13 assists The same night: T. Parker – 34 pts 14 assists (9 straight wins) K. Irving – 22pts 5 assists M. Conley – 16pts 10 assists D. Williams – 26pts 11 assists R. Rondo – 35pts 6 assists J.Wall – 18pts 12 assists C. Paul 16pts 9 assists Throw in Nash at 22pts 16 assists just for a little flavor and it’s case closed. |

I'm from the Midwest. Could you explain to me what you mean by their stuck in the past on race relations? i've been to a lot of places in the u.s. and over seas. the midwest, the chi, detroit, st. louis, indiana...etc..etc...are very segregated in comparison to the rest of the country. always has been....always will be. that's what i mean by stuck in the past. i was born and raised on the south side in englewood. i know all about the chi...i lived there for almost 30 yrs. i wasn't around to see mlk get bricks thrown at him in gage park...but i do remember the kkk having rallies at marquette park in the 70's/80's. i also remember getting chased out of certain neighborhoods because i was the wrong complexion. i knew/met the kid that put lenard clark in a coma in bridgeport...and i just saw the video not too long ago of the white kids trying to stomp out the asian kid in what looks like bridgeport. that's pretty much stuck in the past. |

What the heck does Yao Ming have to do with anything, he had a career ending injury. he was the first big asian star in the nba. let's not act like it wasn't a big deal. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) i don't see too many 7ft tall asians walking around. |

That's the mythology/storyline but it's not true. Lin wasn't overlooked at all. He was undrated out of Harvard but got a partially gauranteed contract with the Warrios but was behind Curry and Ellis. Then he was cut in a salary cap move so they could go after a free agent. Then he went to the Rockets but again was stuck behind other players and was cut. Then he went to the Knicks and the rest is evolving. He just didn't fit with his prior teams. There are plenty of undrafted guys who went to major D1 schools who are toiling in the D league and won't even get the look Lin did. At best, they will bounce around from team to team on 10 day contracts. well...maybe overlooked is the wrong word. how about under-utilized? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) |

Sometimes, my fan appreciation of Floyd is like my views towards Kanye West or the infamous Twerk Team. You love to see them perform but sometimes it's best if you never hear them talk lol That being said, every once in a while, Floyd says something that is completely true, that nobody wants to say, because everyone's gotta be politically correct nowadays. As with the Taylor Swift situation, what Floyd said probably wasn't warranted, but it isn't necassarily false. I'm even more of a basketball fan than I am boxing. I take nothing away from Lin. He's playing phenomenal basketball. That said, his hype has been tremendously enhanced by the fact that #1 He's Asaian and #2 He's from Harvard. It's no different than saying Tiger receives more attention because he's black. It's absolutely true. It's just unfortunate that everytime someone mentions race, automatically people get offended without even knowing why. And this is coming from a BLACK MAN who's a DIE HARD KNICKS FAN!!!! (and I've been one since I came out the womb...not just 2 weeks ago)
