Another quality weekend of boxing. I'll keep this one short and sweet. Saturday's definitely the main course, but Friday's always a good first course.
I'm pretty sure that individual live threads will be opened at fight time by FightHype. FRIDAY: FNF- Antwone "the Truth" Smith vs. Robert “Amenaza” Garcia - 147lbs Cesar Seda vs. Sergio Perales - 120lbs ShoBox- Diego Magdaleno vs. Miguel Beltran Jr. - 130lbs - Magdaleno's undefeated, facing a more experienced boxer. Could be a chance to see what Magdaleno's about, or a cushy match-up. Dunno. Yordenis Ugas vs. Juan Garcia - 147lbs - an 8 rounder, both undefeated. Someone's "0" must go. European/U.K: (probably around 5pm) Shane McPhilbin vs. Enzo Maccaranelli - 190lbs - Enzo should probably retire, he's taken some bad beatings recently. 190lbers can do some damage, so could be interesting. SATURDAY: NBCSports- (not sure if all of these bouts will be televised) Zab "Super" Judah vs. Vernon "the Iceman" Paris - 140lbs - Vernon Paris' time to shine. Can he remain undefeated against the still respectable Zab "Super" Judah? This is probably the last chance saloon for Zab. Siarhei "the White Wolf" Liakhovich vs. Bryant "B.Y." Jennings - HW -Jennings was on NBCSports in January and won in an apparently good showing. I'm interested in how he looks against Liahkovich. Tomasz Adamek vs. Nagy Aguilera - HW -Tomasz Adamek always brings it and initial expectations are for Adamek to win, but will Aguilera make the DR proud? Curtis Stevens vs. Romaro Johnson- 168lbs- Tarvis Simms vs. TBA - 158 lbs NBCSports is also showing a 24-7 type pre fight documentary with Zab Judah. It's on tonight too as well as tomorrow and Saturday. They're also repeating Jennings' last outing in Jan. HBO - Erik "El Terrible" Morales vs. Danny "Swift" Garcia -140lbs- Garcia's undefeated, but Morales is "El Terrible." Will youth be served? James "Mandingo Warrior" Kirkland vs. Carlos "King" Molina -154lbs- This could be the one that has most people's attention as a result of Kirkland being in one of 2011's FOTY candidates and the fact that Molina doesn't seem to be in the least bit intimidated. I haven't seen any of the fighters for the FNF and Shobox card, fight before...so it should be worth the watch. Im going for El Terrible on the strength of experience, but Garcia does have a punch that can change the trajectory of a fight.
As far as the Kirkland/Molina fight...we will have to see. As you said, Molina has yet to show any signs of intimidation, but who knows. He has a nasty record, but he may be able to hold his ground, from a boxing standpoint. |

Same here re. the FNF and ShoBox line up, except for Antwone Smith. I think that I might have seen him fight before. I'm giving Molina a chance because as we all know, Kirkland can be hit and Molina's a good enough boxer to find that chin and possibly withstand the attack from the Warrior. I'm looking forward to seeing if Vernon Paris is going to make himself known in style. This post has been edited by Cheesey1: Mar 23 2012, 08:13 AM |

If he's interesting in seeing if he can take one of Kirkland's punches, then we will see the usual Kirkland fight. As far as Vernon, it sucks that they didn't include him in the Fight 36 segment. I mean Zab's story was interesting, but damn, Vernon is also fighting and I was interested in seeing how his camp is going. |

I hear you, but Ishida isn't a big puncher either and Kirkland was KTFO'd by him. I'm not saying that it'll happen again, but where's there's smoke, there's fire. Yeah, Vernon's story would've been interesting. Wasn't he shot, or some craziness like that? This post has been edited by Cheesey1: Mar 23 2012, 03:02 PM |

I never knew James Kirkland's nickname was Mandingo Warrior lmaoooo Sounds like a porn name Ha! To be fair to Kirkland, Mandingo's/Mandinka's are an actual tribe, with a lot of history in West Africa and if I'm not mistaken, Kunta Kinte from Roots was a Mandinka/Mandingo and if I'm not mistaken again he was a real person. I think Garcia is going to test Morales but I believe Morales will prevail when it's all said and done.
The Kirkland-Molina fight will be very good as well. Molina will need to fight smart if he's going to have a chance to win. I think he should box Kirkland and show him some lateral movement. All in all I think Kirkland will eventually stop Molina in the middle rounds I'm going with Zab. The only thing I see that Paris has going for him is the work he does to the body, but I re-watched the fight and it wasn't as devastating as I originally thought. Zab usually has trouble with the upper echelon fighters, which Paris not and I don't think he'll ever be. I just can't see a way that Paris beats him. If he loses to Paris then he should retire, because for me that will prove he's washed up This post has been edited by mrchitown: Mar 23 2012, 07:23 PM |
