I'm wondering about fights that are shown in movie theaters...would each ticket sold also count as a PPV buy?

Does anybody happen to know?

PPV buys are specific to the cable network's viewership, so only the HBO buys are included in the numbers released by HBO. GB has been in the habit of releasing the movie theater ticket tally separately. I don't think that what is typically reported as the live gate includes the theater sales though, because those figures are made public by the Nevada Athletic Commision.

Well, I hope I've been helpful in my very first post here on FightHype!

That was very helpful man! Thanks. I knew it had to count for something though.

You're welcome! I was thinking...at aprox 440 theaters and at say 200 tickets sold (that's a very low estimate I think)...$20 per ticket...would gross $1,760,000. I think the real figures will be closer to double that. Anyway, ~$3.5 million is cool, but not a huge amount in the grand scheme of things...so perhaps that's why they don't make a big deal about it. But it's certainly worth including in any conversation regarding gross sales and live gate. Perhaps too, these and other such profits are what Mayweather eludes to when he references Pacquiao's numbers not matching his.
