So now Victor Ortiz is facing Alfonso Gomez on the undercard. I thought there was talks of him fighting Shane Mosley. I wonder if Shane balked for a second time.

Good card for competitive matches. NOT good for PPV, unless it was something like the old days of boxing at $29.95. The probable $50-$60 for this is ridiculous! Yahoo Sports thinks so as well:

Ive paid for a maidana ppv before, never regreted it. And I was ready to buy this one to

Except in the Mayweather fight when after hurting Floyd he remembered he was just supposed to get paid to show up. Mosley hasn't mixed it up and really looked good since Margacheato, And that was probably because "Cheato" didn't have his loaded gloves. He beat that dude in Mexico, (Cano?) But Mosley's days as a winning fighter and an exciting fighter I think have passed.

Jack

I don't remember if he won but he was definitely beating cano, and mixing it up despite being hurt. He would have nothing to lose against ortiz and his ability to withstand ortiz punches could eventually frustrate victor as in the lamont and josesito fights

LOL!!! Is Showtime gonna really have the budget to do all those fights? My guess is they will show three of them and Showtime Extreme will do the others.

Jack

PS. I know CShel, we got CJ Ross gone hopefully for good, now we'll probably get stuck with Lawrence Cole and Gale Van Hoy! There WILL be some fuck ups I am gonna say in two of the fights!

I think they will have the budget...I can easily see them splitting close to $4M between these 8 fighters.

Broner will probably rack in about $1.8M (since he got $1.5M for the Paulie fight), while Maidana gets about $500k, since he doesn't mind taking chump change for fights. That $500k might be a stretch for Maidana though, lol.

As for Ortiz and Gomez...they may be the reason that most fans show up, to be perfectly honest. Regardless of their records and outings, they can still draw an exceptional amount of fans. I'd say that Ortiz will get about $300k, while Gomez would be lucky to even get $100K.

Thurman will probably get about $200k, while JSK will probably get about $100K.

Santa Cruz (another decent draw at this time), would get something around $100k, while Seda will get something around 30 or 40k.

These guys are gonna end up taking a huge pay cut, in order for this card to happen (read: in order for GBP to get some type of return from it). I know that most of these guys on the card, have managers who squeeze the sport dry, in order for them to get paid ridiculous money (who wouldn't want a manager like that?), but something's gotta give on this card.

If anything, this card will be the introduction to many great fights and cards like this in 2014. Remember all of those Golden Boy triple and quadruple headers that were being put together from '09-'11? Hell, those same types of cards are being made, but those guys (Garcia, Guerrero, Ortiz, etc) have sprung out on their own. Not only have they sprung out on their own, but they're willing to fight on the same card, which is rare nowadays.

Will Cole and Van Hoy be involved in this card? God I hope that's just speculation. Cole has always been shaky in my book...and I remember that travesty of a card that Van Hoye had for the Lopez/Salido rematch, before Salido KO'D Lopez. Smh

I have to say, not only am I impressed with Golden Boy. I'm impressed with the fighters. As CShel said, not normal for fighters on the come up nowadays to agree to fight on the same card. Broner seemed like he wasn't thrilled about the bout not being PPV anymore but other than that, everyone pretty much just wants to fight big fights on Showtime. I wish Ortiz would have fought Shane Mosley. That way, at least one of them would most likely have to shut the fuck up forever when they lose (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bye.gif)
