This is a really good piece on Steve Smoger, who is a great ref in boxing, and is more old school in letter fights go on longer than some other refs:

While I admit he is a very good ref, that Hopkins fight was a tad bit too dirty for my liking. I get that Hopkins was playing mind games, and I honestly have no problem with shit like kissing the dudes neck to screw with his head. It's the low blows, hitting after the bell, and Hopkins bull charge

Murat was dirty too. Look at both sides of it and not just one, can't single out one and not call out the other

As for the article, it was a pretty good piece I like Smoger, I think he's a great ref and we need more like him

Definitely was a good article on Smoger. I don't mind him letting the guys fight. Fighters fight. It's what they do. However, in the Murat vs Hopkins fight, Smoger was a little too friendly to B-Hop. B-Hop should have been warned more for antics also, and not just Murat.

Great article. Great post Jack. I like Smoger. Only time I can remember being disappointed in SMoger was in Cotto v Magarito 2. I think he came in the fight with a pre-conceived notion of what everyone was saying would happen and kinda let it skew his normal way of refereeing. Other than that, I have him on my Mt Rushmore of refs right now lol. Weeks, Bayless, Byrd, Smoger.

Smoger was slow to break it up, like he always is but he could've warned Bernard. He was all over Murat. But I think Murat was doing it out of fatigue and frustration

Refresh my memory please,

What did Steve do wrong in Cotto-Margarito II?

Other than him being way to preoccupied with the eye since before the fight and insisting the doctor get involved when margs seemed to start rolling?.... Nothing
