It's been said that the great Emile Griffth is in the closet. He was always spotted at the gay bars in NYC. He says that he just enjoy the company of gay men BUT that he is not gay.

From what I've seen of most homosexual guys is that most aren't all too aggressive, and without that aggressive type of personality/behavior that most heterosexual males possess I would think it would be difficult to succeed in a sport like boxing. That's probably why there are very few homosexual guys fighting.

i believe there are definately some gay boxers out there. but just like in the nfl, they wont come out until well after they are retired.
how funny would it be though to have a gay undisputed heavyweight champ of the world? a big guy that acts like richard simmons but knocks people silly in the ring. then purposes to his boyfriend during his interview with larry merchant after the fight.

I don't know if I necessarily agree with that. The idea of a homosexual guy not being aggressive sounds more like a stereotype...like saying most women aren't all too aggressive so it would be difficult for them to succeed in a sport like boxing. That simply isn't true.

That may be a stereotype but I'm just speaking from the interactions that I've had in my life. I've had probably a dozen homosexual employees in the last 3 years and I wouldn't have characterized any of them to be aggressive at all in nature, while I've seen many of my heterosexual male employees display aggression. Again, just my personal experiences.

I understand what BBS is saying and I would say that most gay dudes are less aggressive because they have the feminine traits/mentality more so then the masculine traits but there's still gay dudes that will fight and to be quite honest fuck people up, especially if they're about fighting and you're not. I grew up in New Orleans, there's a a good size gay community in the city and one drunken night me and a few of my friends got into a big fight with a bunch of gay dudes in the French Quarter, dudes were pretty built, older then us, probably in their 30's. We were in our early 20's and I have to say a couple of them were holding their own until my friend knocked one out and then pulled a knife on another one and threatened him...After that they backed off and went back into the gay section of the French Quarter...Shit was pretty crazy though, I must say, before that I though all gay dudes were pussies but the thing is some gay dudes are still dudes and capable of beating somebody up if they're bout it and can fight...Then again I've seen like 6 chicks jump the hell out of a dude and bust his face all up pretty bad...So some of these chicks are crazy too..

I think prison did something to Mike. In this one interview, he says something I like I developed alot of bad habits in jail. Then he starts doing the Dr. Evil thing with his pinky and starts laughing a weird guilty laugh. Then there's this-- "If I take this camera and put it in your face for 20 years, I don't know what you might be. You might be a homosexual if I put that camera on you since you were 13 years old. I've been on that camera since I was 13 years old." And who could forget

I think any person, gay or straight man or woman if put into a situation where they have to defend themself will get a jolt of adrenaline and fight. I'm not saying that a homosexual cannot be aggressive. I just think generally speaking their personalities wouldn't be aggressive enough to take them through the sport of boxing. 99% of boxing is non-adrenaline moments... months and months of gym work and training, sparring etc. Again of course there are exceptions to everything but based on the people I have dealt with personally I would think far fewer homosexuals would enter the sport than heterosexuals, as evidenced by the inability for many to provide names of homosexual boxers in this thread.

Can't that be said about most demanding sports? There are very few homosexuals in general, so the number of gays playing....say football is going to be small anyway. It's also difficult to provide names of gay boxers b/c most gay athletes keep things hush hush. Can't blame them either. Emile Griffith is perhaps the most famous gay boxer. You hear rumors here & there, but until gay fighters "come out", it's difficult to say.
Are there more gay interior designers b/c heteros aren't artistic enough? lol
Some aggressive homos.... what about Nero? Caligula? lol Maybe they were just friggin' nuts.
Richard the Lionheart was rumored to be gay.

I think things are pretty much on point, in that people don't often just "say" what they are doing in their personal lives of love -- homo and hetero alike. I mean, I'm willing to guess a helluva lot of athletes mess around on their mates, but it's not like they are gonna out and broadcast to the world that they play around; I imagine sexual preference doesn't matter. A celebrity's private life, especially with all the scrutiny people find to associate to certain lifestyles still, is probably thought as primarily best kept a secret overall. We have simply not gotten that far to where many people (and perhaps most even) are or can be as open about particular things, and that's observable as one; from what is given, as indicated by the lack of folks willing to even come out and talk about such -- almost like the aim is to hide the reality of it by not discussing it.

Yup, certainly.
I think generally speaking about 5% of the population is believed to be homosexual, and I wouldn't think that 1 in 20 boxers, football players, etc is homosexual... so in terms of percentage my opinion is that a smaller percentage of homosexuals are involved in the most demanding sports compared to heterosexuals.

There was this Fitzroy/Brisbane-Collingwood (Aussie Rules Football) player who was a very tough guy on the field, was really one of the tough men of the game. Crashing through packs, hitting guys hard, did everything. Rumour has it that he was gay. You would never have picked it from the way he looks or played.

Ian Roberts was the biggest poof I have seen on the football field. He also happened to be one of the toughest players I have seen. The way he beat the living shit out of Gary Jack is evidence of the fact that he could throw with the best.
