Apparently they had a war of words where in the end Paulie said he could whip Cotto's ass anytime anywhere and Cotto then challenged him to the sparring ring with no protective gear. Paulie accepted and the 2 got it on. Cotto suffered a gash over his left eye and Paulie ended up with a black eye and a broken nose. Their fight was ended early when Undisputed Light Heavyweight Champion Richard "Dick" Butkiss came into the ring to end their little fight.
