Wexley "The Power" Gawn
(28/1/1) 9 Ko's
Three-time world middleweight champion
[left]Wexley "The Power" Gawn is far and away the greatest middleweight to ever grace our league. He was found as a baby abandoned in an Eastend alleyway and spent the first 12 years of his life being shunted from one care-home to another. At the age of 13 he was arrested for the brutal mugging of a 25 year old man who later recalled "This skinny little kid came at me like lightning....his hands were a blur and within seconds I was covered in my own blood laying face down in the gutter." The arresting officer recommended Wexley took up boxing to control his aggression and help him become disciplined. Wexley never looked back.
In just his 4th pro bout (a feat never likely to be equalled) he captured the world middleweight title winning a majority decision over "Prince" Malik Abu-husson. He successfully defended the title 10 times before shockingly losing by knockout in round 11 to his old nemesis husson. Wexley made no excuses for the defeat and vowed that when he returned he would be an even better fighter. Four comeback bouts later Wexley challenged the new champion Cyrus "Super" Virus and recaptured his crown with a stunning first round knockout. He made 2 defences before relinquishing the belt due to personal circumstances but once again vowed to be back. He didn't disappoint. One comeback bout later and Wexley challenged yet another new champion, Manuel "Diez Punos" Cortez. Cortez was easily outboxed by the supremely gifted Gawn who won an easy unanimous decision to capture the title for a 3rd time. His final reign was probably his most impressive as he defended the title 6 times, knocking out 5 of his challengers.
The final bout of his career came on December 23rd when he defended his title against the highly touted challenger Berk. Berk came into the bout on a 15 fight winning streak and experts felt he was the man to finally end Wexley's reign. After 9 rounds of action Berk was clearly ahead on points and the title appeared to be slipping away. However, Wexley produced a display of previously unseen viciousness, ripping into Berk and destroying the challenger with a devastating 10th round knockout victory. Having beaten every single worthy contender over a 30 fight career, Wexley "The Power" Gawn announced his retirement.
Wexley is currently working as a trainer with his adoptive brother and fellow legend Maxy "Deep Freeze" Gawn.
