Morrison: "You can't pass the HIV virus during sex from man to woman. I don't care what people tell you. It happens from man to man because thats forbidden of God, an abomination"
Tommy Morrison had his career derailed in 1995 by a positive HIV test but says he never had the virus, a claim he repeated this week to Boxingtalk's Brad Cooney. He fought once last year in West Virginia, a state with medical requirements so lax that Morrison was allowed to fax his blood work results into the state. He won that bout. Morrison was then scheduled for an April 27, 2007 bout in Texas, a state with real medical requirements. The Texas bout was cancelled when the Texas commission did not receive a passed HIV test, and Morrison's claims of HIV seemed impossible to believe. The failure to get licensed in Texas was suspiciously blamed on Morrison's physician for "not getting the paperwork completed in time." Morrison then withdrew his application for a license in Texas and even his former agent, Randy Lang, whom Morrison says falsely represented himself as a lawyer, said Morrison is indeed HIV positive. Lang has been quoted as saying that either the test results or the blood sample used to get the West Virginia license were faked. Since April 27th, Morrison has fought in an MMA bout on a Native American reservation that did not require an HIV test. The results of the Texas test were never revealed and the MMA bout was seven months ago. Since then, the 39-year old Morrison hasn't gotten a boxing license in any other state. If he really is HIV negative, one can only wonder what in the world Morrison has been waiting for. Now, in the face of modern science and medicine, Morrison has told Brad Cooney that "within the next few weeks I will be able to go out there (Vegas) and pass my medicals." That would be shocking if true.
In the meantime, Morrison has not been shy about making offensive comments about his scientifically rejected views. "You can't pass it [the HIV virus] during sex from man to woman anyway. It cannot happen, I don't car what people tell you, it cannot happen. It happens from man to man because thats forbidden of God. You know, its an abomination, you're going to pay the price. What causes AIDS is drugs," said Morrison on his Internet reality show [In case you were wondering, there is no scientific proof to back this claim]. Of course, Morrison served jail time for drug and weapon offenses and he admits to using steroids so there are other ways besides sexual activity by which Morrison could have gotten the virus. However, Morrison steadfastly denies having the HIV virus in the face of positive tests. Morrison does not restrict his prejudice to homosexuals: he was quoted in men.style.com as saying "I really donít like black people.Ē Way to represent the sport, Tommy.
