On February 17th Frankie "The Brit" Skipton fights Roger Mayweather for the vacant world bantamweight title but this is no ordinary world championship fight because, should Skipton triumph, he will become a 5 weight world champion. His accomplishments are quite extraordinary when you consider he actually lost his opening two bouts against Abdul Aziz Hamid (UD) and Hof'er Z Gorres (UD).
Skipton has beaten the current strawweight champion Lupe Fiasco twice (KO 8, MD), the current flyweight champion "Awesome" Awesome (KO 9) and fellow 4 weight champion CyruS "No Fear" ViruS (MD). If he beats Mayweather (and he will start as underdog) he has admitted he won't be defending the title because he isn't a true Bantamweight. In fact, he can still make flyweight and that is the division he plans to settle in eventually.
However, there is even the possibility that he could fight old nemesis No Fear up at super bantamweight if his rival also wins a 5th world crown. No Fear is attempting the same historic achievement on the same night as Skipton.
For the moment Skipton has his hands full with Mayweather and the fight looks extremely likely to go the distance. Mayweather is the better boxer, Skipton probably has the edge in power, but he won't even be able to make the bantamweight limit and this could also prove to be decisive. Whatever happens, Skipton has proven to be a genuine HOF candidate.
