Racism is a cancer in our society! Everyone says how much better things have gotten since the 50's and 60's but it is still very much alive. people just try to be politically correct and two-faced about it. I for one am Black and White..growing up I had to deal with racism on both ends. Either I was too black for white folks..or too white for black folks. Either way I never bought into any of it. Whenever I came into contact with racist people we usually fought...and it just wasnt people who were racist against either one of my races..it was people who were racist against anyone. I have people who I call friends who are Arab, Hmong, Korean, Black, White, Mexican, and everything inbetween. I dont believe in racial stereotypes or generalizations and when I hear or see it happening it really gets on my last damn nerve! When I look at people I see a person..not a Mexican person or a Black person etc...but a person. That is the way all people should be but in America I feel less than half the population is. judge people on thier character not thier color...judge them based on who they are not where they come from. Growing up in the hood on the streets of Frogtown (st. paul) I saw alot of bad in people of every race..but also alot of good....but when people hear that you are from the hood they automatically think bad of you..you must be a gangbanger..or a dope-dealer..or you are lazy. "From the flames rose the pheonix"..."even concrete can sprout a rose".."never judge a book by its cover".."always remain humble"..those are words I remember and live by. This country has a long history of hate geared towards minorities...The slaughter and massacre of Americas real fathers the natives...the death camps they put our Asian brothers through in the world war...slavery...the tuskeegee experiment.. the assasination of our black leaders during the 1960's and the C.I.A. distributing cocaine in the black communities..now they are harassing Arabs everywhere they go and trying to declare war on immigration by not allowing our Latino brothers to enter a country that was built on immigration! America is a melting pot which is what makes us so strong..it literally took every race to build this country..so when I hear some lame ass KKK member say "go back to your own country" I realize just how dumb they are! If everone was to go back to thier own country..remember no-one would be here but the Natives..they are the real home-land security! This country needs a leader like Obama..to show the many racists that are still spouting off at the mouth that this is a new world and there is nothing they can do about it!!

America is too uptight about race and religion and all that shit. A person can still hold opinions that are not PC and that are based on solid arguments and SHOULD NOT be called a "racist" for it. For sure on the immagration issue. I'll give you an example of just what a problem it is. For the last few weeks I have been busting my ass in an attempt to get my mother health insurance. The woman is 62 years of age and keeps herself in extreamly good shape, she has paid her taxes her entire life and will retire in a year.....as an American...she has done her job....she has worked, paid into the system and raised a productive family. BUT...due to her age and the fact that she has a couple of normal "pre-existing" conditions.....on paper....they will not give her jack shit. Their basic answer is pray you stay healthy until you are 65 and we just HAVE to give you the money with Medicare.

YET.....a woman that has come here illegally can have 3-4 kids here in the states and yet every single one of them are paid in full by Medicaid....these people may have only have been here 6 years or so as opposed to 62....have not paid jack in taxes as compared to my mother....YET....their children suck up tons of money that could go to help folks like my mother.

I'm sorry....but that is a broken system...and proves that illegal immagration can cause an unfair drain on resorces.

I'm all for letting good, hard working families into this country....it would only make us stronger...but it cannot be allowed to happen like a facet that has been turned on and left running with no supervision.....it must be done in a way that is fair to everybody, current residents, immagrants that have come here legally, and all tax payers.

I really don't think "Manifest Destiny" is something we should be proud of. Especially the way it was carried out, it not like we just conquered the Indians, we spread diseases, abused their women, i'm sure you know about the trail of tears.

I think humanity should be above and learn from the wars and decisions of the past. It is OK for us to seperate ourselves from the other animals. We have the ability to look back and say, well maybe manifest destiny could have been carried out differently, maybe it wasn't necessary at all, we shouldn't feel guilty, but not be proud of it. We should be proud that we aren't going to do that shit again, and maybe be proud of helping in other places where genocide is taking place. Because that's what "conquering the injuns" was, ethnic genocide.

I do find it funny that a Texan doesn't like immigrants, since we just strolled in Mexico told them that this part of their land was Texas and they had to get out. But illegal immigration can be a problem, it's not good to have undocumented people wandering around. I'm sure you have no problem with legal immigrants.

From what I understand, the potential for that was intended to be increased through what President Bush was planning with that “illegal-immigrant VISA program” he was introducing – to encourage people to get on paper, which could result in what would be kind of akin to the “backstabbing” of the American natives someone here referred to. In essence, it was to be a stratagem to keep things in what is supposedly intended to be better order, meaning more control over population count.

I have not read any of this thread yet, but encountered some racism at work a few days ago. I run a restaurant locally, and there was a black woman with her daughter eating lunch at one of the tables. The daughter was 18 years old and tried to order a drink. My server correctly checked the ID and refused alcohol service. Basically the mother then ordered a drink and let the daughter drink it. I went over to the table and nicely told the mother than the daughter couldn't drink; the server had informed me that she had refused service as she wasn't of age. The mother proceeded to argue with me, saying I was harassing them - that I wasn't going over to the "white tables" in the restaurant and such. The mother proceeded to say "I fucking hate white people" to me. Very inappropriate. Pretty sad that this is what we have going on in 2008. What's even more sad is that her 18 year old daughter was just sitting there more or less agreeing with her mother. Great that she's being taught that behavior, no?

In America, it's only considered racism if whites are the ones being ignorant. It's okay for everyone else to be complete assholes and toss out racially insensitive remarks. Thought you knew that.
