Mean Mister Mustard
Well Bute dominates smaller past his prime William Joppy by making him surrender in the 10th round. Bute won all the rounds but Joppy caught him a few times but lacked the punch to do any damage. He got dropped in the 9th and was taking a volley before he surrendered.

Time for Bute to step in against Kessler. It's the only logical fight at 168 now that Calzaghe is moving up to 175 and probably retiring after that.

yeah a fight vs Kessler would be a great step up in opposition and would test his true abilities as a fighter. Even fighting someone like Jeff Lacy would be a good challenger, Lacy is set to fight may 31st on boxrec.com IF a mosley-judah fight goes down that day, it would be a great undercard to hv a Bute-Lacy fight supporting the main event

What do you mean Joppy "surrendered"? He quit?
Mean Mister Mustard
Yes, he quit. He signaled the referee to the ref that he was done.

Joppy has been done for a couple years. The brutal beatings he took against Tit/Hopkins/Taylor finished him as a fighter. Plus he is old as hell.

I just read that he retired. Good for him, he had a pretty good career, and always fought the best. I also read his face was almost as puffed up as it was against Hopkins. Oh well, good luck to him

Joppy's ALWAYS been BIG on talk, and underdelivering.

What is funny is that against Taylor he was competitive until he was knocked down and then he quit fighting and just went into survival mode.
Mean Mister Mustard
Here he was competitive but the size and power differential was too much, coupled with the fact that he's past his best.

i'm glad for bute, glad to see some canadian (even though he's not REALLY canadian) talent winning and defending titles. but he definitely could have fought a tougher opponent. he's very good, very skillful, he doesn't need to be protected this much. joppy is durable at this point in his career, little else. a few years ago he had more going for him- but he didn't deserve this title shot.
