Floyd Mayweather sues for purses

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has sued his former promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank, claiming Arum still owes him money from his matches against Arturo Gatti in 2005 and Zab Judah in 2006.

The lawsuit, which was filed in Clark County (Nev.) District Court on March 7, seeks an accounting from those two fights and also claims that Arum breached his contract and did not operate in good faith.

Mayweather said his contract for the Gatti fight called for him to receive 85% of Top Rank's net revenues and his contract for the Judah fight called for him to receive 80% of the net revenues. He claims that Top Rank did not provide him the complete and final accounting for either fight despite repeated demands.

Mayweather does not specify an amount that he believes he is owed, but stipulates the statutory minimum of $10,000 for each of the five claims in the lawsuit. It is clear that he believes Arum shortchanged him much more than that for those two fights, which both did around 350,000 Pay-Per-View buys. Mayweather and his reps would not comment on the lawsuit.

"Under the advice of Floyd's counsel I can't comment on the complaint," said Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather's adviser. "The complaint speaks for itself."

Damn...he must have blown throught that 20 million that Vince McMahon just paid him.

Personally, I think we should all sue Floyd...after all that talk he did about beating Oscar's ass and punshing him and blah, blah, blah...methinks he should be giving us fans some of our money back.

laugh.gif

We should get a class action lawsuit against him and sue for false advertisement.

For all you people thinking that Mayweather is scared of Cotto.

Don`t forget that Floyd has said that he will never work with Bob Arum again even before Floyd fought Hatton.

Pay up Arum
thehype
Nah...I'm not believing he got $20 million from Vince either...maybe $2 mill...or $5 mill...but $20 mill? I don't even see why Vince would need to pay Floyd money like that.

to boost ppv sales.

No one is forgetting...it is just that a logical mind sees it for what it is - a convenient excuse.

Translation = Floyd is suing the biggest draws of his previous fights before Oscar.

And as Hype previously stated, all that rain has left a nigga dry.

BTW, no WAY he got $20M from Vince. There is just no dynamic to his story. 5'8". 150 lbs does NOT a $20M make.

What does how he throws money around have to do with this?? If Arum legally owes him the money and didn't provide an accounting of the money as the lawsuit alleges, then he should indeed pay-up.

The $20 million dollar figure of McMahon was indeed a "hyped" up number as a lot of what the WWE does made to generate publicity.

Back to Floyd and Arum, what does surprise me about this is that it was Arum who came in to settle Floyd's beef with James Prince. So either theres a huge discrepancy of figures here or Floyd is doing this to spite Arum. Arum's a promoter, I don't deny it one bit considering how he's jerked careers and well say whatever it is convenient on behalf of the fighter he's promoting even if its false..

And this, among all things, is a very sad fact. We may NEVER see this fight gentleman..................

It doesnt look like Cotto has any interest in fighting Mayweather either. Look at his schedule for the rest of the year.

What would you do if you where in his shoes? The only other thing that Cotto can do to get a fight with Floyd is to take the Edison Miranda route and throw Floyds name in the gutter. That is completely out of Character for Cotto so he has to go on and try to clean up the devision and hope if he can force a fight with Floyd down the line.

Co-Sign....Cotto has already said in an interview that "Floyd always makes excuses" and that he is ready for the fight..What more does he have to say?! Floyd can make all the excuses he wants..its clear he is just afraid of Cotto.
