06.05.08 - By Nate Campbell:

I just read an interview where you asked the question “is Nate Campbell only good at giving interviews, or is he willing to fight somebody the caliber of Marquez?” You should really think before you open your fat mouth. Who the hell are you to question my heart as a fighter? See, if you were actually a boxing guy, and not just some suit that by chance happened to marry someone in Oscar’s family, then you’d have sense enough not to say something like that about a fighter. Especially about a World Champion. But you just don’t know any better.

Well, I’ve got a question for you too Richard. Do you actually know how to promote a show, or do you just have to wait every time for HBO to pull out their nipple for you to nurse on? When’s the last time your company actually promoted a fight on it’s own? Or do you just beg for HBO dates, and site fees, and call yourself a promoter? And don’t try and take credit for Oscar-Floyd, and Floyd-Hatton, and other high dollar shows. You didn’t promote those fights, HBO did..

If you think for one second that I’m gonna sit around till November waiting for Marquez, then you’re even dumber than you look. Sure, it’s an attractive fight, and one I would take, but I don’t need to sit around and wait for Marquez, or anyone else for that matter. See, my thing is this. I have a REAL promoter, one who doesn’t just close up shop just because no tv dates happen to be available. As soon as this WBO mess is cleared up, I’ll be fighting SOMEBODY. If you’d like that somebody to be Marquez, then give Don a number, get out of the way, and let a REAL promoter do the fight in July-August. But you know what? You won’t do that. That’s not in Golden Boys’ “best interest”. What’s in your best interest is making Pac-Juan Diaz in November or December. So you try and get me and Marquez out of the way, so Arum has no other high profile fight for Pac other than Diaz or maybe Hatton, both of whom you happen to control. So don’t act like you’re giving me Marquez as some kind of mission about “making the best fights”. Or you could at least fake it and come up with some really stupid number, and then you can issue press releases saying something like “We made a good offer, but Campbell obviously doesn’t want to fight someone on the level of Marquez”.

Now some people might wonder why I’m assuming Diaz beating Casamayor is a given. Everybody knows Casa screwed up your plans when he beat Katsidis. That wasn’t supposed to happen. Everybody knows that. Especially after you screwed the Santa Cruz kid out of his rematch with Casa, and gave the fight to Katsidis as a “door prize” to Samson. I know, I know, you’re doing “what’s best for boxing”, right? Well, I’ll say it out loud right now. As long as Diaz finishes the fight on his feet, there’s NO WAY Casamayor gets a decision.

Don’t think for a second that I don’t know what goes on in this game. I see the whole chessboard. You are trying to devalue the sanctioning bodies, and market your little “Golden Boy Belt” as the lineal title, thinking you can force everyone to sign with you in order to fight for that so-called “title”. You want to be Dana White, and control everything within your own little world.

You are fooling some people with that hogwash, but not everyone. Unfortunately, most media people are so afraid of being denied credentials and access if they open their mouths, so they look the other way. But I’m you’re worst nightmare Richard. I’m a fighter who knows the game, and isn’t afraid to speak out about what you’re doing. I am the IBF / WBO / WBA Lightweight Champion, and there ain’t a damn thing you can do about it. Unless of course you think you have someone in your stable who can beat me and shut me up. Do you?? Let’s see…. You have Casamayor. Nope, you don’t want him to fight me. Gotta keep that “Golden Boy Belt” in house. You have Juan Diaz. The kid still has nightmares about me. You have Katsidis. Ha, you’d only let that fight happen if he were allowed to keep that helmet on. You have Marquez. Sounds good to me. How’s July or August for you guys? Oh, that’s right. You can’t do anything without HBO there to prop you up. And the fight only serves your purpose if it happens later in the year. My bad. What was I thinking?

You should stay away from interviews, and just stick to press releases telling everyone how great you are, and how good for boxing you are. And unless you have a serious fight offer, and NOT one happening 7 or 8 months down the road, then just keep my name out of your mouth. I'm not about these games you're playing.
Hodge
Wow. That was on point. There is nothing that Richard can say in rebuttal.

Is Richard Shaeffer really married to one of Oscar's relatives?

Campbell is awesome.

I am happy that he mentioned GBP's so called "promotional" tactics. And those are to let HBO do everything. The savior of boxing my ass. Anyone else pissed of at DLH's arrogance to say his fight with PBF saved boxing and that his company will continue to do so?

For one, I highly doubt Nate Campbell actually wrote this...the grammar, punctuation and structure are perfect...its clear to me at least that a formally educated person wrote this for him.

At any rate, I agree with this letter. Golden Boy has REPEATEDLY stated in public and on the record that they were founding this company based on the idea of being fair to the fighters. Things like Juan Diaz losing and getting the Casamayor fight anyway is exactly what they claimed not to be about. Like I often times say, and this is true for other capitalistic ventures besides boxing as well, its easy to talk about taking the moral and ethical high ground, but when people are faced with the idea of missing out on a big pay day or even taking a significant pay-cut for that matter their "so called morals" can change very quickly. In a nutshell, Golden Boy went through hell and high water for over a year to try and land Juan Diaz, but then he lost his titles in the ring in his last and final fight under Don King. GBP just couldn't bear to see all that legal maneuvering and potential money go out of the window, so they screwed Nate Campbell by letting Diaz "leapfrog" him even though it is clearly a shady move and the wrong thing to do.

Why couldnt Nate have said or wrote that? Heard him speak many times and it sounds exactly like him. According to education secretary William J. Bennett, ''I'm not sure there's a system as bad as the Chicago system". Anyway, it was funny when NATE said they would only let Katsidis fight him if he could keep his helmet on.

Campbell's an intlligent dude. I don't doubt for a minute he wrote that.

Excellent read by the way. All of it, 100% dead on. Nice.

The title of the thread was a little strange, but that was still a great read. Campbell beat him down big time verbally.

LOL, is it strange that you are the only one who notices these things?

LOL.

Damn...that reminded me of a few beatdowns I laid on a couple people.

Go ahead with your bad self Nate.

I pretty much agree with just about everything he said.

Just more MONKEY BUSINESS.

WOW good for you Nate. He is getting close to the end of his career and this is exactly the type of stuff he does not have to take anymore.

I knew after I posted my message that someone would say this. I'm not saying Nate isn't an intelligent guy, or that he can't spell or anything like that. I was just saying that the letter was written so perfectly that to me it reads like something someone with a lot of intimate knowledge of formal writing did it. Again, not saying I expect him to sound stupid or to send out an open letter littered with misspelled words. It's just that this was extremely well written... far above the ability level of an average American. I believe that these really are his thoughts, but I don't think he's the one who physically sat down and typed this up, it was probably a publicist for his promoter.

WAR Nate Campbell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe if you end a sentence with a quotation, the punctuation at the end of the sentence goes inside the second set of quotes. In the above document everything wasn't perfect then, so now do you believe that Nate could have written it?

LOL.
sweetchuck
Nate probably did write it and if anything someone proofread it.

Anyway, Nate is right. Glad to see he's sticking up for himself, he worked long and hard to get to where he is. He is the provider of two of my favorite humorous moments in the ring. When Peden knocked him out because he stuck his chin out and when the decision was read for the other guy and he started celebrating. To think he got past all that and he's a grandpa and he's the lightweight champion of the world.

I also liked him pointing out that Cassamayor has the "Golden Boy Belt" and not The Ring belt.

I dont see anything so hard to do what Nate did in writing that. Its plain english, says alot about what some still think about certain classes of people.

LMAO. I remember that. It was against Hlashwatayo (sp?). Nate looked about ready to burst into tears of joy until he realized what was up.
