World championship boxing arrived at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard in a big way on Saturday, July 7 2007 showcasing the once undefeated, Norwalk's own "Tremendous" Travis Simms (25-1, 19 KOs) who defended his World Boxing Association (WBA) super welterweight title against the former No. 1-ranked mandatory challenger Joachim "Ti-Joa" Alcine (28-1, 18 KOs).

In this fight Joachim "Ti-Joa" Alcine came out the victor and since then no one has heard from "Tremendous" Travis Simms again. Daniel Santos, in a near-perfect performance knocks out Joachim "Ti-Joa" Alcine just weeks ago.

This fight was a grand success with Don King leading the way. So did anyone here at fighthype go to this event? If so what does anyone think? Thanks wink.gif

I covered the fight for Mike Marley.

It's one of those funny things where you don't really get the Mohegan Sun/Foxwoods crowds and it's still just a bit out of the way from New York. The building was actually set up nice, parking was easy, but it was clearly not a fight town. And you could hear individual comments from random fans at ringside, which is to say it wasn't exactly an electric atmosphere - so you can imagine the sickening "pop" that was echoing when Donaire lit up Vic Darchinyan.

Nothing bad about it, but nothing great. Dawson could likely draw a bit there, but the question is WHY would he fight there?

Probably wont happen again, you figure Foxwoods and Mohegan will get the big draws that come here to CT and then you got the new Convention Center right in Downtown Hartford for the leftovers...
