Ok, I've been reading and keeping up with Don Kings big promotion fight he is trying to do in China and then I was reading some of the events that he has put together. I mean hate him or love him you have to give him props on some of his accomplishments. I want to get a discussion going with you guys about your opinions and stand on some of the worlds biggest boxing promoters today and hell perhaps all times, who do you think has made the biggest impact of the sport, and the worst impact/moves for the sport. Who do you guys think put together some of the best fights and did the better job and promoting new up and coming boxers?

I just started really getting into boxing in the mid and late 90's so a lot of the stuff some of you old heads speak on or know I may have know idea what your talking about but I consider this a learning/history session for myself. So please speak freely!

Arum has to have the lead on developping fighters and putting on good fights for the fans. Now obviously Arum can be a scumbag, hey he's a promoter, but so far he's the best. What Golden Boy is doing is not promoting. They leave all the work to the Casinos and HBO. If you want to read more, Maxboxing has written some great articles on that.

All time it has to be Don King. Today he's slowed down tremendously but overall he really was the King.

Yea I kind of agree with you on that one! I mean I dont think no one will produce the types of fights like the Ali and Fraziers, Ali and Foremans, and other historical fights Don King has put together. He's a living legend! I think Bob Arum could be next in line.

I think the phrase 'best promoter' is an oxymoron.

Promoters only give fans the fights when it financially suits them.

Not suits the fighter, not suits the public, but suits THEM.

Don't know the promoters from way back so in my lifetime my vote would go to the Reverend Don King.

Sure he screwed his fighters and screwed the fans but damn he puts on a good show! Shamless should be his middle name.

And I think he should get the nod purely for making the 'Rumble in the Jungle' happen by promising both Ali and Foreman astronomical purses when he had absoluely no idea where the money was coming from (don't know if evil african dictator was in his original plans.)

Those are two guys I sure as hell wouldn't have wanted to face having to explain that I had no money to pay them.

Now that's what I call chutzpah.
