Full Version: Campbell-Guzman IS OFF!
FightHype Community > BOXING HYPE > Boxing
BigG
As you all know, Guzman weighed in at 138.5 for the fight.

Guzman is apparently totally weak, dehydrated and coughing up blood and he is in the hospital. Mayweather Sr. said that Guzman should pull out.

Wow, hard to believe a guy that was 130 for his last fight totally killing himself to make 135..mustve blown up in between fights.
Maxy
Totally unprofessional and I've lost all respect for Guzman. There is no excuse for this sorta shit is there? I mean, Hatton gets slated for always blowing up in between fights like a fat bastard, but at least he makes the damn weight come fight time.

I think this is disgraceful to be honest.
BigG
As a big Guzman fan for YEARS I am also very disappointed with him. The titles aren't on the line. After years and years of being ducked, this was supposed to be his shining moment and he pulls this shit. Apparently he did alot of strength training for this fight so losing weight was really hectic and tough for him I bet.
Maxy
I just can't make any excuses for him, a fighter at this level of his profession. Totally kills things don't it? How can a fighter be so overweight? Beggars belief.
BigG
The fight is OFF!!! What a disappointment!

I hope Guzman gets better soon and we can get this thing rescheduled quick..boo Guzman for not making weight.
Maxy
Really gutted about this. Guzman has let the sport down, let himself down, let the fans down.

Disgraceful.
gods son
man i was looking forward to this!!!

The Fight is off. We have just confirmed this. Story here:

I would assume that the whole card is scrapped but I do not know this for sure. If Bradley-Cherry is still on, members may post a round by round for it. But with all the crap and controversy over the judges and the sanctioning between the WBC and the Mississippi commission, my view is that it is best to scratch the whole card.

BULLSHIT!!!Now everyone who wants to see a fight tonight HAS to watch PPV..I'm not getting suckered into this PPV though..I really like Casamayor a lot but this fight shouldn't be on PPV..HBO must be so happy..
JonnyBlaze
I also have to say I'm very disappointed in Guzman..Weight problems have been a really big thing 135 and below in the last few years..I want to say I can feel for em since that is a hard weight to stay under but he should of met the weight 3 days ago and maintained..I'm still a Guzman fan though..
sweetchuck
I doubt the whole card will be scrapped. There's the Bradly-Cherry fight that I thought was the better fight anyway. Plus there's an elimination bout that can take the TV time since the Campbell-Guzman fight is off. I feel bad for Campbell who did his job and now won't be getting paid. There are several reasons why Guzman could have not made weight and no one should criticize him for not making weight. We're not talking about Jose Luis Castillo who has a history of not making weight.
sweetchuck
Three days before? LOL, there are a lot of fighters who aren't on weight three hours before weigh in sitting in the steam room and then hitting the treadmill
JD
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...now I am going to end up ordering some shitty ass non-HD feed of Casamayor - Marquez.

I can't feel for someone whose let the whole fuckin sport down by being unprofessional. A hard weight to stay under? WTF? There is no excuses for this, none whatsoever.

Guess I ordered the right fight. Tough luck for Campbell though, he trained hard for this and made weight. Hopefully campbell can get the winner of tonights lightweight championship fight. It was going to be a good fight too, but oh well.
Imperius3
I feel bad for both fighters. This was a huge fight for them. Hopefully Guzman isn't ruined, and Campbell can find a quick replacement within a month or so.
BigG
Should Guzman just fight at 140?
WolfishPromistah
Guzman was stepping up in weight, as we know. What's odd about it is that it's over what he'd normally be fighting at anyway, so imagine if he had to make the lower weight instead. The requirement has the nerve to be HIGHER than usual, and he messes THAT up? Wtf?

This is one for the record books right here.

Ummmmm...just for the record, we're not in the habit of reconfirming stories that we were first to break.

Anyway, Bradley-Cherry is now the main event and they're contemplating televising the Hector Velasquez vs. Elio Rojas fight.

Also for the record, from what I hear, Mayweather Sr. was EXTREMELY unhappy with Guzman's training habits for this fight and got into quite a few "disagreements" with his "strength and conditioning" coach...in other words, you can probably feel free to criticize.

I was looking foward to this fight with the upmost of excitement. But hey, if the guy could not lose weight what can we do? I don't think his inability to lose the weight was due to being too fat but rather too much muscle. As Guzman has climbed the weight ladder he has gotten beefier. He probably trained to gain muscle and then was unable to lose it. I say this also because it is hard for me to believe that he would underestimate Campbell.

No.
Douchebag
Damn, He should take some time off and reanalyze whole life.
JD
I fought the urge...no Casamayor - Marquez PPV.

If it were in HD I would have done it...but this is a big moment for me. Saying no to an undeserving PPV.

Through all this I feel most sad for Campbell. Dude paid his dues and he now gets robbed of a payday through no fault of his own.

That sucks.

If I was Campbell I would say 'thanks but no thanks' to any further opportunities to fight Guzman.

True.

FUCK GUZMAN!!!!!! I don't buy that he was at the hospital either. I saw the dude several hours before the fight laughing and clowing in the casino lobby. BULLSHIT. Dude was moving UP in weight ans still couldn't make weight, there is NO excuses for that. and this after all that shit this dude talked leading up to the fight, what a fucking joke this guy is.

Either way I hope Guzman gets his dome knocked off in his next fight.

I talked to Campbell's manager after the fight and he said they may fight another one of Campbell's mandatory's in possibly dec against Funeka.

Since it's pretty clear that Golden Boy and his stable want NO part of Campbell and they're ducking the shit out of him.
blackbelt2003
The regularity with which this is happening now is making me think they should have stand ins boxing on the undercard in case one of the top of the bill guys don't make weight.

Perhaps an Aldo Rios or Jesus Chavez, a decent pro who would take an undercard slot with an agreement in place that if one of the main event guys can't make weight (which happens a LOT these days) he can step in and preserve the title fight.

One of those guys vs Campbell would have been better than nothing at all.

Guzman's a putz. All this shit-talking he's been doing about how no one will fight him, then he up and just refuses to fight Nate at the last minute. He wasn't a mandatory. He's not even that big a name. Campbell was giving him the chance of a lifetime and he says thanks but no thanks. What an ass.

This dude has spent the better part of his prime complaining instead of fighting. Isn't he already in his 30's?

Hype, please do us all a favor. When Guzman and his promoters start unveiling their next round of press releases in a few months about how no one out there will fight him, show a picture of Nate Campbell instead of Guzman alongside it.

Cosign!

When I saw how "good" Guzman looked, I became suspicious of just how sick he was. It seemed that Guzman didn't want to fight. Brilliant idea posted above!!!!

Jack
Douchebag
I have a hard time believing he just decided he didn't want the fight at the last minute.
Thegreatequalizer
i'm sure that it his advisors convinced him not to fight. which, unless his health was at risk, was a stupid move.
