Full Version: US House Pardons Jack Johnson
The House of Reps, in a voice vote, recommended that Jack Johnson be pardoned for his 1913 Mann Act conviction - a racist embarrassment to America's history.
"He was a victim of the times and we need to set the record straight -- clear his name -- and recognize him for his groundbreaking contribution to the sport of boxing," said Rep Peter King, R-N.Y., author of the resolution.
The measure now goes to the Senate, where Republican presidential nominee John McCain, a senator from Arizona, has a companion resolution.

Very good news to hear..Jack Johnson was a victim for sure..I'm glad they decided to clear his name..RIP Jack
That documentary on Jack Johnson was brilliant. The man is/was a HERO and an ICON.

That would be HORRIBLE!!!
To make African-Americans think that he cares about them by actually trying to correct a wrong. His pandering would be much more acceptable if he was actually born with African-American blood. That's the right way to pander to a community...be born into it, not make legislation that would positively affect them.
It's about time. The man definitly deserves it.
