Full Version: Come back of the year and upset of the year

Come back of the year:

My vote is for Vitali. Long lay off, dominant win, history making title win putting 2 brothers in as heavyweight champions

Upset of the year:

Darchinyan vs Mijares. Big underdog dominates highly respected champion and stops him in a brutal fashion

Who are you guys picking
BigG
I don't know about Mijares-Vic being an upset though Aussie...Vic and Mijares were both considered top fighters although Mijares was the favorite. I'm trying to remember if an outrageous, Harris-Maussa type upset happened this year.
Box in Hand
I think Amir Khan getting knocked the F#%# out in the first round is a contender for upset of the year. Comeback is Calzaghe getting off his butt twice in two different fights to win both.
mexi-cutioner
- Nate Campbell beating Diaz by SD, leaving Diaz beat pretty bad and bloody
- Brian Vera 7th rd TKO over hot prospect Andy Lee
- Carlos Quintana UD over Paul Williams
mexi-cutioner
Amir Khan's first round destruction by Briedis Prescott is definitely up there too, so is Pacquiao vs DLH im sure no one forgot about that fight laugh.gif

Nothing else other than Pacquiao-DLH as upset of the year should even be considered.

Agreed...

Can we give Margarito Comeback of the year?

He lost his title and his big fight with Cotto last year just to regain it all back this year.
JonnyBlaze
Comeback of the year---V. Klitchko...Upset of the year--DLH-Pac-man..Mainstream fans and hardcore fans would all agree on the DLH upset..How many PPV buys were there??Any numbers out yet??
Mean Mister Mustard
Vitali will win the comeback no doubt about it. Coming back after nearly 4 years and beating the stuffing out of the number 2 ranked heavyweight in the world like he was a sparring partner is impressive.

Upset of the year has a lot of candidates and will probably be given to Pacquiao beating DLH. The way he beat him was the upset too.
moscow bear
oddswize..... a big big upset was Audley Harrison losing a UD to some Irish cab driver last week.
moscow bear
put perhaps the biggest upset was Karmazin's loss to Bunema

Not bigger than Pac-man/DLH..The stage was set for these 2..December for the last 2 years has had super fights..Boxing analysis will make a huge deal about this fight because it helped bring boxing back on the map even more than it was..People who I know were talking about this fight and they don't watch boxing..They all wanted to come watch it with me..Pac-man gave everyone the show they wanted to see, unlike the Hatton/Mayweather or the DLH/Mayweather..

The Harrison loss definitely was a big upset yet it wasn't even on TV so that tells ya something..

I was basing it on the fact that everyone was picking mijares. I know i didnt give vic a snowballs chance

In hind site, i now think the writing was on the wall for oscar in his fight before pacman. He'd faded, and was trying to drop down in weight at an advanced age for a boxer. Look at what happened to Byrd. And whilst i was tipping oscar over pac, pac was the number 1 p4p fighter in the world. How often can you say the no.1 p4p fighter won an upset... LOL dntknw.gif

Now that i think about the khan fight was a bit of a shocker. I expected someone in frank warrens camp to do their homework in protecting his stable

oddswize, both my examples were MUCH BIGGER upsets than DLH-Pac, and that is the only objective (scientific) definition of an upset.

comeback of the year is MOST DEFINETELY my man vitali klitschko, him and wladimir dominate the heavyweight division...HAHAHAHA after that fat idiot james toney said "no white man will ever be heavyweight champion"....hahah wow i bet he feels like a dumbshit now..I WOULD LOVE TO SEE HIM GET HIS ASS KICKED BY EITHER ONE...and yes wladimir and vitali and wladimir are "caucasian"..."eastern european" or "russian" or "ukrainian" are not races...there are really only four races and ill say them in laymens terms "white" "black" "latino" "asian"......sorry to get off track but i just think its so funny that two white dudes are making everyone look like little bitches after so many black fighters think their race is the most superior.....OK HAD TO GET THAT OUTTA MY SYSTEM, after just hearing about the ignorant quotes fatass james toney made a while back...

upset of the year has to be IMO, nate campbell coming outta NOWHERE from basically journeyman status to beat the best fighter in the division at that time...and the fact that campbell got a SD win was absurd...he beat the shit outta son from opening bell to closing bell...shit, wasnt he supposed to be a tune-up for a unification showdown with someone else (can't remember) for his next fight? and if i remember correctly, the odds were like 3 or 4 to one, AT LEAST....I dont see how pacquiao/DLH could even be considered, WHILE many of people that are just BOXING FORUM SUPERSTARS on here like damarvelousone and mean mister mustard and jack the administrator were bitching about "ohh DLH is just too big, this is such a huge mismatch, DLH's punches can hurt pacquiao, but PAC's punches cant hurt DLH" "DLH will stop him in 6"....SOOO many comments JUST ON HERE...HOWEVER, if you look at the real boxing pundits that really know what they be talking about, they were alll calling it extremely close fight...I tried sooo hard to point it out to the, but no one wanted to listen that the size WAS NOT THAT EXTREME...

And your rant on "Races" was plain STUPID... Keep up the good work clapping.gif

I did say that about the weight, but I also picked Pacquiao to win the fight.

About Toney, the guy is done. Even if he beats Oquendo and manages somehow to get a shot at either Klit he wont beat them.

Campbell beating diaz was a bit of an upset but nowhere near the upset Pacquiao-DLH was or even Prescott-Khan. If you think Campbell was a journeyman before his fight with Diaz then that just goes to show how little you know about boxing.

Upset of the year: PBF & RJJ breathing the same air as me. That upsets me greatly.

haha neither of you picked manny to win the fight, you said you WANTED MANNY TO WIN, but you knew DLH would previal due to UNFAIR size advantgaes...AND I SAID, well oscar should be entitled to at least once physical advantage, and even at that, its not that drastic...do you want me to pull up previous quotes you made concering the matter? HOW MANY TIMES DOES THE CONCENSUS NUMBER ONE POUND FOR POUND FIGHTER IN THE WORLD "UPSET" A MUCH OLDER, FORMER CHAMP, DESPITE HAVING THE SLIGHT SIZE ADVANTAGE? IMO, it is a contradiction, thereby IMPOSSIBLE....it was not that big of an upset, THE MANNER IN WHICH HE BEAT OSCAR DOWN WAS SUPRISING, VERY SURPRISING...but if you look at the actual betting odds, it was not that much of a difference, AND if you look at all the experts picks, they picked manny to win?>!?! so how the fuck is that an upset? and upset of the year, AT THAT? you see, people with simple minds tend to be drawn very easy to something that does not matter that much in boxing, like being "larger". ""OOOHH NIKOLAI VALUEV IS A MONSTER! THEREFORE, EVERYONE HE FIGHTS IS THE UNDERDOG, SIZE IS THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS!!".. IN FACT, size can be a detriment to a fighter just as much as it can be an advantage....but people like you are UNABLE TO SEE THE DUALISM IN SUCH MATTERS.... "OHH OSCAR IS SOO MUCH BIGGER HE IS PICKING ON MANNY ITS NOT FAIR! IF MANNY WINS IT WILL BE SUCH A SURPRISE THAT HE BEAT OSCAR AT THIS STAGE IN HIS CAREER!" fewlz....please, i already showed u and PROVED how wrong you were about physical size in its relation to boxing.....

AND YES, nate campbell was viewed as an aging, but still skilled fighter...he was "supposed" to make juan diaz look good by putting up a good fight, but was NEVER even once given the chance to win....a gatekeeper of sorts, if you will.....possibly slightly better than a journeyman, but DEFINETELY NEVER was supposed to beat juan diaz, especially in such convincing fashion....so diaz losing WAS A MUCH BIGGER UPSET THAN DLH losing...ask ANYONE that is considered an expert on the sport, NOT AN EXPERT ON ONLY THE BIG FLASHLY FIGHTS, and they will tell you campbell/diaz was A MUCH bigger upset than the dream match...

wow this is harsh..lol.. what got this started?

oh yeah for sure upset of the year has to be:pac knocking out hoya like he was a kid...lol

comeback of the year to me has to be: vitali klitschko beating sam peter like he was his unwanted stepchild...lol... my goodness... that was a number 1 ass whippin which says a lot about vitali klit... he is gonna be hard to beat... comes back after 4 years off and still the number 1 man in the division... had pac not had such a brilliant year i would be almost willing to give fighter of the year to vitali as well... i mean 4 years off to come back and beat the possibly second best heavyweight in the world like he did...with no tune up... thats huge and says a lot about the guy... he is probably the only guy that can shut peter down like that.

No one wanted to listen that size wasn't a issue??Ya must of forgot my posts..Ya can quote me on this and check up on it if ya want but I said weight wasn't the issue, the only real size advantage was height..I did say I thought DLH was going to win but when I visualized the fight in my head I saw Pac-man comin forward like he likes to do and creating a storm..He boxed real good in the fight though..

You really hate MMM huh??

I picked Manny by decision. I said from the start that Manny was no smaller than Forbes is. People have to realize that Manny has been coming in at 147-148 the past few years... just like Floyd has. Forbes was tagging DLH too and the difference is Forbes is not a storm like Manny is and he CANT string you with punches like Manny can. Forbes is also NOT as fast as Manny is.

Size is overrated if you can't do shit against a faster fighter.

First of all, I do not want to get in a flame war with you.

Second, before you rip on me like you seem to rip on alot of people that you claim to be so much more intelligent then. I do have a very beautiful wife with two beautiful boys and live in a nice house and live a pretty normal life. I love boxing and have been around it for about 20 years, and fought amateur for many years.

You stated before you are in school to be a lawyer, is that correct? Then what is up with all your immature comments. We all disagree sometimes and are wrong, but you really like throwing in peoples faces. You seem very knowledgeable about boxing too, be nice if you were a little friendlier. But ultimately you do what you want.

As far as so many people picking Oscar, does that make everyone an idiot. All your picks 100% right? Boxing is very unpredictable, and for me personally I picked because i thought the size advantage was too much. I was wrong, so what. I remember Oscar giving Floyd a pretty tough fight and figured he would be so motivated to KO Manny and that he would. I figured Oscar in the Forbes fight was just his lack of preperation, and he would redeem himself against Pacman. Regardless of Oscar, Manny looked amazing and he deserves his due, he busted ass in training and it showed.

One more thing, when do we get to see a picture of you? Or maybe one of your fights?

Size is overrated if you can't do shit against a faster fighter.

I've been saying this for so long..Everyone I know thinks size is the deciding factor..Yet,speed kills..Muscles don't kill unless ya know how to get maximum benefit from them..Lifting heavy weights is all for show,ya don't get any advantage outta doing that besides intimidation..Yet,a smart boxer will look at the big muscles and laugh in their head..I bet Calzaghe knew he had Lacy the minute he saw how big he was..Rahman turned out to be a POS once he bulked up even though he looked pretty crazy..Heavy weights slow you down and tire you out quicker..Some speed is natural and some you pick up..The reason why I talk about the weights is cause I did the same thing and was curling 50 lbs in each arm 20 times each set and benching 250-300 lbs 10 times each set..Now I only go very light with weights,25 lbers and 1 45 on each side of the bench..Speed is the most important thing to have since if you have natural power like Paul Williams, you get extra power from the speed..I'm lucky I was blessed with natural power but power doesn't mean shit if ya can't hit someone..Since I stopped lifting heavy,I'm atleast 3 times faster..
