Pre-season football is a month away.

So let's start up our yearly NFL thread.

Method...Spyder...Hardhead...Rusty...CEO...BG...the rest of the NFL freaks, chime in. Good to have Warlord back as well...he is a much needed addition to this thread.
Method
LET's GO EAGLES!

Put up or shut up, Donovan.
Spyder
Hell yeah, another rebuilding year...

I can't wait!!

The CEO
Not too excited about The Titans this year...might get hyped if Young takes over at QB and plays like a hero...
Method
That will not happen CEO. Collins is their guy. Young will be on suicide watch.

If Kenny Britt can make plays the Titans will be poised for a run. They seemed to be a WR short last year.

J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!!!
The CEO
Not familiar with Kenny Britt...I know their receivers weren't the best, but they were kinda clutch....their D is solid, and Johnson has what it takes....they also got fatty at full which makes for a nice 1-2 for the backfield....I see them clearly breaking .500 but not being anywhere near as successful as last year...

and the reason I'm not hyped, Meth, is because of them investing in Collins....I mean...what the fuck is that?....that's an outright stupid move to me....I KNEW he would crumble in the playoffs last year...and he WILL crumble again if he gets the opportunity...

Young needs to get his head right and take over the herd....old ass Collins may be a gamer, but he's no champion.
Method
I seem to remember the Titans getting shafted on a call against the Ravens. More a victim of bad reffing than anything else. I may have them confused.
JD
The moment the NFL figured Young out, he was done. His drop back...nothing there...run to the right style worked, even against USC who was ridiculously clueless against him, but in the NFL that is not getting it done.

They want a game manager, and let Chris Johnson and LenDale do the work. I do think that losing Haynesworth is going to cause them to put up some more points, but this is a solid team. Vince Young is probably on his way out of the door anyway.

I am looking forward to seeing how the Jets D looks under Rex. Calvin Pace being suspended for 4 games is an absolute killer...but it will take time for the group to gel anyway.

Young better watch out, he could go the way of McNair.

I don't know what to make of the Giants this year, I think they should be ok, it really depends on what these receivers can do. Fucking dumb ass Plaxico had to go and shoot himself and then get involved in the worst cover up possible. The NFC East is so hard to gauge, they should be good, but Dallas has alot of question marks as does Washington and the Eagles. I am tired of Donovan McNabb though, when will that Eagles team go away they're never gonna win anything, they're just annoyingly good enough.

I wouldn't mind seeing the cardinals light it up though, and I'll tell you I usually don't take kindly to the home team in whatever city I happen to be living in, but the Falcons kind of grew on me last year. (All the pother Atlanta teams can kiss my ass though, especially the fucking braves)
King Eugene
I'm a Panthers Fan and all I got to say is 5 years 45 fucking million fucking dollars! WTF?

Cowboys will just be average this year as well. May not even make the playoffs.

My guess is he does neither. Donovan just doesn't have the fortitude mentally to get it done, IMO.

If he was still a running QB, maybe. But ever since he pussed out and stopped running to try and prove some faceless critics wrong he's done just enough to lose all the big games.

Yup. Yup. Its funny too, cuz B-Hop goes on the Philly radio stations and basically calls out McNabb as being heartless, gutless. Public denouncement like that has found guys like T.O. a first class ticket out of town, but since its B-Hop, and he ain't an Eagle, and he has cred, it just goes unchecked, agreeable or not. It's great.

laugh.gif I would tend to agree with Hopkins's assesment of the situation. If the Eagles had had another QB under center for the last couple of years, I think they would've taken more than one trip to the Super Bowl. I don't mean aces like Tom Brady either. I'm talking more along the lines of the Trent Greens and Kurt Warners of the world, guys who can at least rally the team around them. It's no coincidence that old-ass Jeff Garcia did more with that team than McNabb.

Too bad Avon's not here. He was (and probably still is) an avid McNabb dickrider.
Method
I would have (and argued as much) kept Garcia in a heartbeat. In a heartbeat. He's better than McNabb.
JD
LOL...you guys hate McNabb.

I think Philly has a damn good shot to win the NFC East this year. They made solid moves this offseason and were a game away from the Super Bowl last year...had the Philly D not spotted Arizona 24 first half points, there is a real good chance they get there.

I do not think the Giants are going to be all that special this year - with no receivers, no one is going to respect that offense.

The Ryan family D is what this year is all about for me.

I think their D can win games...and that O-line is nasty, but I would worry about them winning big games without a receiver the opposing D is going to fear.

I don't know about all that, lol. I'm not sold on Matt Ryan yet. He looked good last year for a rook, but we'll see how he holds up under real pressure.

With Tony Gonzales playing TE, the Falcons are definitely looking to pass more this year. That means Ryan is going to be facing the kind of pressure he didn't see last year, thanks to Michael Turner handling the load.

If Turner and Norwood stay healthy, and are utilized correctly, the Falcons will make the playoffs. If they get hurt, or if Matt Ryan is forced into a shootout, well, then we'll see what he's really made of. I'm hoping for the best... but these are the Falcons we are talking about here. Destiny hasn't been too kind to them.
Method
Neither love nore hate has anything to do with my take on McNabb. It's some straight spade callin.

Y'all hate poor Mcnabb and are gonna run him out too... Let him go... He'll prolly end up in Washington and beat you guys twice a year for four years until he retires...

Provided there is no sophomore slump for Matt Ryan, the Falcons will be a playoff contender. Ryan is the best QB to come out in a while.

The NFC South is going to be a tough division again. The Panthers will be solid...and the Saints will be better. The only team in the division that is going to struggle is Tampa, but if Josh Freeman can learn the NFL game - his physical abilities and talent make JaMarcus Russell look slow and weak armed.

Since the realingment, the NFC South has consistently been one of the toughest divisions in football. If not THE toughest. It's fucking brutal.

Mr. Factor, Crumpler was an excellent go-to guy during his tunure for the Falcons. The guy had shovel hands and caught everything thrown in his general vicinity. Bryan Finneran was an excellent clutch player as well, one of those white possession wideouts that only show up for the big plays (ala Ricky Proehl, Wayne Chrebet, etc...)

Gonzales is nice, no doubt. (If he stays healthy.) But the Falcons have had some good go-to guys in the past couple of years. Martin and Mathis in 98, Crump, Finneran, etc...

Ryan will be fine if Turner carries the rock 25 times a game, and manages to stay healthy while doing it.

If Turner gets hurt, all bets are off.

Crumpler was MV7's FAVORITE target, but he was unreliable too at times... Saw him drop too many passes too. The whole Vick era, I saw too many passes dropped. Finneran too... I think it was the game where MV7 broke his leg. Preseason against the Ravens... Finneran was WIDE open behing the FS. Vick lobbed it about 20yards right over the FS's head to a wide open Finneran who was hit in the hands, in the chest by the ball. He dropped it... Martin and Mathis were both good. Mathis was special. neither of them were 3rd and 5 guys though. They were both home run hitters. Rison could get you 8 on 3rd and 5.

Finneran developed into that. Last season he was really starting to come on and play that role of the 3rd and 5 guy. Gonzales is going to be getting MOST of Finns rock. Wouldnt be surprised to see Finn dog go... One thing I can say is that he has a pretty good fanbase here in the ATL...

Naaaaahhh. At this point we wont miss a beat if we lost Turner. Norwood is good, but Jason Snelling is a beast waiting to be released. He keeps a roster spot because he is a carbon copy of Turner. If Turner was to go down, i think Snelling becomes #1 and Norwood stays as a change of pace guy. Norwood may see a few more carries, but Snelling SHOULD get the bulk in the absence of Turner...

I was reading that the Falcons want Turner to carry the ball closer to 270 times this year...instead of the 370 carries he had last year.

I honestly believe Matt Ryan is the "Real Deal Holyfield".

He absolutely is. He was terrific at BC with no one to throw to, and he came right in and adapted to the pro game with little issue.
The Original MrFactor
I was initially against picking Ryan... Happy he proved me wrong. Year 2 seems to be crucial in terms of make or break for QBs... I'm curious to see how he handles year 2... Looking forward to it...
King Eugene
Better pray he doesn't end up like Vince Young!

I wonder who will eventually pick up Vick? I heard rumors a while back that New England where interested but those where just rumors. At this point where would he really fit in at?
Bill The Butcher
I bet the Falcons will be fine this year. They will make the playoffs for sure. Michael Turner has another couple good seasons in him, he played back up to Tomlinson and preserved his body. Matt Ryan seems like a really smart dude. He is capable of a shoot out.

Anyways...GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SEAHAWKS! I'm excited what the Seahawks have. A new coach. A new offense and defensive coordinator. John Carlson. T.J. Houshmenzadeh. Deon Butler. Hopefully Branch and Burelson stay healthy. New zone blocking scheme. I think as long as the Seahawks can stay healthy, they have a really good chance at winning their division. I know, I know...that isn't nothing to be proud of...blah, blah, blah. But if they can at least make it to the playoffs and get on fire at the right time, who knows, they can get back to the Super Bowl.

Denver, SanFran, Seattle, NY JETs, Washington, Oakland, Minnesota, Tampa Bay, The Rams... Some of those listed actually are showing interest. Some are just where he could break into the lineup.

Good luck with Mora... Zone Blocking sux... Hasselback wont see week 6 behind Zone Blocking. Zone blocking takes a mobile QB. Seneca Wallace may be better suited for Mora's scheme. Mora stunk it up down here...

No way McDaniel has any interest in him.

San Fran maybe, though he is not the type of guy Singletary wants to build an offense around.

Just do not see Seattle as a fit.

The Jets drafted their guy...you can forget them.

Washington has Campbell, though you never know with Schneider.

Oakland just drafted Russell 2 years ago.

Minnesota has Jackson, traded for Rosenfels and is about to sign Favre.

Tampa Bay just drafted Freeman.

St Louis needs someone, but again, do not see it.

In other words, don't expect to see Vick in the NFL this year in my opinion.

All of this is accurate, but Oakland might just get him because Al Davis is a bit nutty. Same with Washington.

At this point Leftwich is a career backup. He'n not very good. Another guy with a "Golden" arm. Has lots of zip... But he gets injured way too much. He's immobile and he has a very very sloooow release... He'll be ok if the starter goes down.

I became a permanent fan of Leftwich when he played with that broken leg/ankle! Now tell me that aint heart! I wonder how the Jags are looking this year. They got that bowling ball in Drew thats going to help support the running game. I'm ready for Nelson to have a break through season. He is one of my favorite DBs!

Shit, the entire coaching staff is new.

The Jon Gruden to Raheem Morris transition will be just as drastic as the Sam Wyche to Tony Dungy one. Hopefully we'll get a similar boost this go-round.

Vick signs with the eagles 2 year deal. 1.6M for the first year with options for the second year at 5.2M but no guaranteed money.
Warlord
Congratulations Method, your team picked up Vick at a bargain-basement price. If McNabb gets hurt, it's gonna be a fun ride. It's gonna be a fun ride anyway. No way they keep Vick on the bench. Whatever it takes, I think they'll get him on the field. Even if it's not at QB.
