I saw Gatti fight live twice. First time against Terron Millet on the Forest-Mosley undercard at MSG. Second time was the great first fight with Micky Ward at Mohegan Sun. Watching that fight live and in person, I couldn't even really comprehend what I was seeing. Only been to a couple live fights so I didn't have the same reference point for how great it was as I would have watching on TV. The ninth round was just surreal.

I had the opportunity to drive up the FL coast to Vero Beach with Maxboxing owner Gary Randall and boxing scribe Johnny Whitehead a few years back (hell, more than a few years, now) to spend the day w Gatti and Buddy McGirt at McGirt's gym. One of the nicest, and, even more than that, one of the most genuine guys you'd ever want to meet. At the time he was engaged to a Brazilian woman, although I am pretty sure it is not the same one being discussed here. When I tell you that he was as appreciative of the fact that we would even drive up to watch him train as he would be of fans coming to see him fight...I mean, he was THAT genuine. I know he loved to "get after it" ("IT" being the nightlife and the vices that come with it), but away from all that he was a real nice guy.

I can't reiterate enough the profound, and moving affect that 9th round of Gatti/Ward I had on me from both an athletic and competitive stance. I mean, if ANYONE...EVER...asks for an explanation of the vague meaning of "heart", as it pertains to athletic competition...say nothing, sit them down in front of a screen, and play them Round 9. If after that they till don't understand, distance yourselves from that person, as they are not athletes you need to be associated with.

I was so moved halfway through the round that I stood up in my living room screaming for them to stop the fuckin fight. Im glad they didn't, because half way through the round, what I thought was the apex of action, was just a building crescendo, and that just kept building and building and building towards the bell to end the round.

This is a real shame. I couldn't believe the news when I saw it on ESPN yesterday when I got home from work. I thought about all the heart he had shown in every fight, and how he never gave up. He always seemed like a genuine person who cared about others. Every time he fought I knew I would tune in since it would usually be a great fight.

I understand your anger 100% but if she is found guilty and gets the death penalty then the child loses both parents. I still hope whoever committed the crime gets punished to the fullest extent but asking for death is a little harsh. Had it been someone in my family then my initial emotions would probably want the death penalty but at the end of the day I wish death on no man.

Police officials in Brazil are prepared to charge Amanda Rodrigues, the wife of Arturo Gatti, with premeditated murder. Early Saturday morning, Gatti was found dead by his wife in their room at the seaside resort of Porto de Galihnas in Brazil. Brazilian police officials became suspicious after there were numerous inconsistencies in her testimony. The couple was on a second honeymoon and planned to stay in the country for a month.

According to Rodrigues, she woke up on the morning of July 11 and claimed to have found Gatti with damage to the back of his head and strangle marks on his neck.

When police arrived on the scene, a bloody purse strap was discovered in the room. As BoxingScene.com reported on Saturday, officials believe that Gatti was strangled to death with the purse strap. Police officials held a press conference with Brazilian media and they believe the wife strangled Gatti to death when he passed out from being drunk.

Based on the information pieced together by police, the couple went to dinner on Friday night. They later went to bar and left on foot. Witnesses told police that the couple had an argument on the street after leaving the bar and Gatti pushed his wife to the ground. It was said that she suffered minor injuries to her chin and left elbow. Gatti, with their one-year-old, caught a taxi back to their room. The wife returned later on. Gatti was drunk as the couple had been drinking beer and wine for most of the night.

Police believe that Gatti was passed out from being drunk and his wife stabbed him to the back of the head with a kitchen knife, although the wound was not significant enough to kill him. He was then strangled to death with the purse strap while he was laying down.

The wife is being held by police. She has not confessed to the crime and tried to blame a third party for the murder. Police say the possibility of a third party gaining access to the room is nearly impossible.

“It is humanly impossible, because access to the room is done only with a magnetic card. The apartment is on the second floor, and only has one window, and it would be necessary to climb in order to come in," said one police official who is familiar with the investigation.

Police expect to have expert reports ready in about two weeks. Gatti’s relatives have arrived in the country to claim his body.

There are many things that are Biblical that we don't practice anymore.

Personally I'm not in favor of Capital Punishment because it's not 100% that ONLY guilty people are getting executed. There's been many MANY people on death row, some moments from execution that have been exonerated and found to have been unable to have possibly done what they had been convicted of.

Until that process is 100% and there is 0% chance an innocent person can end up on Death Row, I can't get with it.

To be sure, there are certainly people who perhaps deserve it. But until the process is 100% that no innocent people will be put to death, I can't support anyone getting it.
