I dont put any weight into what the writers say. They all said Cotto would beat Margarito last year. They all said thet DLH would beat Pacquiao. They all said that Margarito would beat Mosley. Ooooh and Teddy Atlas is wrong damn near 100% of the time in big fights. My money will be on Cotto to KO Manny...
The Original MrFactor
Also, many of those are NOT predictions...

"I would be mightily impressed to see Megamanny stop Cotto."

"Do you really think the pound for pound best fighter in the world need the WBO welterweight belt to prove he is the best? He is already the best!"

What if Cotto wins?where does this rank him? top 3?

i will be once again shocked if pac wins this fight... people are talking like cotto is just a shot fighter... IF pac wins this fight he will have beaten a very highly skilled fighter... not a weight drained hoya or a ill fated brawler like ricky hatton... he wins this fight he gets all the props and luv from me... this fight to me tells just how much of the truth pac is...

I'm confused, I just dont see how it can be this one sided that all these writers and fighters believe Pac wins no problem. Styles make fights but for the sake of argument go through the following exercise... if Marquez was fighting Cotto, who would you be picking? If Hatton was fighting Cotto, who would you be picking? If DLH was fighting Cotto, who would you be picking? If you answered Cotto to all three, then this should be a very close fight. I am picking Cotto by late stoppage. He withstands the early eye popping combos and grinds Pac down to a nub.

well, alot of people think he is shot, which is quite possible. I don't think that he's shot, but definitely not the fighter he once was. I also don't think the fighter "he once was" was all that spectacular. He was definitely above average, but that's really it.

Cotto fights the fights that everybody doesnt want to or wont......(clottey, marg..)

loses to a cheater,....pulls a win out of a very tough fight with a hard headed, hard knuckled clottey...

rips through average competition...(jennings)

shot?......Id like to say he's just getting started...

Pacman loses this fight......

He's got speed.....so did judah, so did mosely.....

Didnt he beat spectacular fighters?...Or were they shot too?

I see the pacman train comming to a complete halt, he certainly will have his moments early....shit Cotto may hit the canvas early.......

If Cotto can weather the early storm,.... Pacman's parade in the phillipins will be a much saddder one

and i feel just the opposite... i always thought williams aside cotto was the only other major threat to floyd before his retirement... one things for sure cotto is not shot.. the marg. fight maybe took a little something out of him but he aint laying down to pac. in this fight... like i been saying IF pac is to win this fight he will have to show something that he hasnt had to show since his fights with marquez and he will be going up against a bigger fighter than marquez... this fight is very legit, matter of fact i dont know what the odds are but it might be worth dropping a few hundred on cotto if they are shifted enough and i dont like to bet on boxing...

fact of the matter is, I don't care if margarito is cheating. a fight with a guy with as little skill as Margs should be easy for an elite fighter, which it obviously wasn't for cotto. if he had a brain on his shoulders, or in his corner, margarito should be easy work.

as far as just getting started, i don't know where you came up with that bs. cheating or not, he took a beating in the margs fight and that kind of fight always damages a fighter. like i said, i don't think he is shot, but he certainly is damaged goods.
rusty_trombone
QUOTE (Fitz @ Jul 29 2009, 07:14 PM) *
I disagree. Margarito has little skill, but he can still possess problems for elite fighters. Mosley didn't have an easy night with Mayorga and to many, was literally about a second away from losing the fight. Mayorga could arguably be on par with Margarito in terms of skill. Nobody is going to say Mosley isn't elite.

Style matchup, but elite fighters shouldn't have a problem with Mayorga either. Hence his ass beatings by anyone else that was worth a shit, just an off night for Mosley. Jesus, DLH picked him for a comeback fight because he knew what kinds of show he could put on against mayorga. But maybe Mosley isn't that elite, there i said it.

or maybe it could be that mosley has his good and bad days in the ring now... which mosley really shows up could be the case now... he has had some tough fights in his career...

Cotto can beat all those guys you've mention easily but Manny will handle Cotto like a damage goods, and the whole boxing world will says"I Told You So".

I have no problem with that. I think Pac is a great fighter but that he has become overated, especially as a welter. He has weaknesses despite what Roach claims. He is short and has a limited reach. He has a thick lower body which gives him pop in his punch, but his thiness up top could be a problem against a sustained body attack like Cotto's. He only really fights moving foward which could be a problem if someone backs him up with some power. Great fighter but not perfect.

I think honestly, Pacman should not be above 135 let alone 140 & he is going above that & fighting top guys! I don't think anyone should be saying Pacman is a WW personally!
