Full Version: How do you "collect" your boxing?
FightHype Community > BOXING HYPE > Boxing

I'm in the process of transferring years worth of taped boxing onto DVDs. I've got plenty of fights from the past few years, albeit at VHS quality. I've also got plenty of gaps, lots of fights that I never got on tape or DVD.

How do you "collect" your boxing? Do you have tapes/DVDs? Do you do trading sites? Some of that stuff looks pricy, and I still feel burned on the quality of some career sets I bought a few years ago off eBay.

I have a ton of fights on DVD. Mostly mixed fights though and not career sets. I may have DLH/Vargas on the same DVD as Hopkins/Trinidad (just an example) Let me know what fights you're interested in and we can work something out.

Do you keep a list of what you have?

I've been pondering going on message boards and asking if people had VHS tapes that they wanted converted to DVD.

I don't have a DVD-to-DVD copier, only a VHS/DVD combo unit that I do direct dubbing with. Figured I could convert for people in exchange for me making copies for myself.

I'd like a DVD to DVD or computer to DVD burner. Don't know where to start with that.

I just store them on my DVR until I have to transfer to DVD due to lack of space.

I had a pretty good VHS library growing, but I doubt the condition is viewable at this point. A lot of good fights are available on youtube now, so I'm sure I can find any fight I'm interested in anyway.

Got a little bit of everything poster, shirt, gloves, cards, programs but mostly Videos i've been collecting fights since the early 90's and The Ring magazine since late 80's.

Boxing isn't just a hobby for me it's more like a part of my life also thinking about getting into refereeing amateur bouts.

How quickly does the VHS quality deteriorate?
kidbazooka1
If you have an original VHS copy recorded on SP it will hold up pretty good atleast mine have.

I had a great collection of fights from 84-99 on VHS. They're all gone now though and since that bad day when I lost them I've stopped collecting...

Unfortunately I used LP or SLP on most of my recordings...to fit more fights on a tape. The life of VHS is also dependant on the quality of tape used. Beta tapes have a longer shelf life.

...too bad porn didn't choose them.

I did the same thing. And those are the tapes that are stored a few states away. I need to head down and start turning those into DVDs.

Would you be interested in turning your tapes into DVDs?

I use torrents. You can get just about any fight you could ever want

Do you only watch fights on your computer? Or do you burn DVDs from your computer?
Fitz
I have a few on VHS that I haven't got around to transferring to DVD, I now have a lot on DVD that I now use as I have a DVD recorder.

The fights I don't have access to on TV now, I just download them off the net which are excellent quality with a lot of them, so I have a lot of fights on my computer now that I can transfer onto dvd.

Pardon my naivete, but how do you do that? (What Web site, program do you use? How is the playback on your DVD player?)

The playback is good depending on how good the quality is of the video you download. Obviously you need a program to convert the videos to DVD, but it's all very easy. I will have to PM you.

Any and every fight you could ever want. Just be patient at the start and get your ratio up and you will be fine. You have to share as much as you leach.

I was thinking the same thing. They're pretty strict about that stuff on the site I download from.

I have been there a while now and have never heard of anyone getting banned from their site for recommending to another. There are other sites out there that I do belong to that I did not recommend. Guess its not that funny after all.

Also this web site has been mentioned several times in these forums. And several members from here belong. This is not the first time.

Pretty sure you just downloaded my latest DVD 'release'. =)
Byrd Man
I've been trying to get the career set of Chris Byrd (no I don't have insomnia, assholes! lol).

Everywhere I look though the "Career sets" are missing about 10-15 fights.

How many of his fights were off TV? Odds are quite a few. That's going to be true of just about everyone. There's not going to be a Duran career set. That's for sure. I don't know that Ray Leonard had EVERY fight of his televised either. Just how it goes.

I've got the de la Hoya set and since EVERY fight of his pro career was on TV, it truly is complete. I'm downloading disc 7 of a nice Byrd set right now.

I have quite a few career sets. Love them. Thousands of fights overall.
The Original MrFactor
Its funny... I used to record alot of matches. I havent recorded a fight in years now. I have alot of Wlad Klitschko fights on video tape. I got bored with the technology of recording and running cable connections to my PC's. I just watch them now. If I have to work that weekend, I'll have the DVR get it. I will have the DVR record the Pac/Cotto fight regardless. I think thats a historical bout that people will talk about 10-15 years from now.

Do you upload your own fights onto that site? I been meaning to do that, just to get my ratio up even higher.

Frequently. Complete broadcasts, compilations, etc. I've got a TON of stuff that I'm about to put on there, a little at a time.

Yeah you're probably right with the off-tv part.

So if you're downloading Disc 7, how many discs is it for the Chris Byrd set? You have Discs 1-6? How many fights total?

We'll have to work something out. I definitely wanna get that.

According the the posting for the 7th disc, he says it'll be 11 discs in all. I'll PM you when I'm done grabbing them all. He just uploaded #7 yesterday so it may be a little while. I'll remember.

Yeah the tapetrading would work well because not everyone has cable internet or broadband or fios or whatever. I'm lucky enough to have Broadband myself, but I used to be on Dialup and that would suck trying to download gigs of fights.

Bro, I'll convert your VHS to DVD -- that way I can boost up my own library and send DVD copies back to you, too.

I've had this nagging need to expand my project. Hence the "feeding an addiction" description on this thread.

Just got my first shipment of my old tapes, stuff dating back to 2002. Quality is fine on DVD -- I didn't watch and re-watch these fights over and over, and that, I think, is what would deteriorate them moreso than this relatively brief amount of time.

I'm signed up on that site we can't mention. I just need a laptop that can burn DVDs...
