RIP.

Maxy
Yeah, I put this in the rap thread. Deserves its own though. Very sad news indeed. Had Gang Starr's first two albums on tape and continued to buy their stuff even when my love for rap waned.

Even my wife is gutted by this news as she used to buy the jazzmattaz (sp) stuff they did. Always liked Guru's laid back style and smooth voice.

It's a sad day.

RIP Guru.

RIP. I was always a big fan of Gang Starr.

Two of my favorite raps or all time are "Take it Personal" and "DWYCK" with Nice & Smooth.

He dropped some classics with Premier but his recent stuff with SOLAR was terrible and their relationship seemed "strange".

Lemonade was a popular drink and it still is/
I get more props and stunts than Bruce Willis/

That was my ish right there.

A poet like Langston Hughes I can't lose/
When I cruise...out on the expressway/

Smooth B had the best verse in that one I thought.

I left my philly at home, do you have another?/
I want to get blunted my brother/
Now may I make a mark, then make a spark/
Over this fat track, or should I say dope beat/
Subtract. Delete/
All of the wick-wack that wanna be abstract/
Cause they lack the new knack that's comin' from way way back/
Ay yo Premier please pass that buddha sack/
You heard we quit? no way bullshit/
I told you before we'd come back with more hits/

QUOTE
It takes a more intelligent man to squash a fight
than to set one off, knowledge I'll let some off
Cause nowadays, everybody's a killer
And as for me, no other MC is iller
but still a thorn scrapes my heart
when I see another life that's been torn apart
over nonsense, no law, no order, it's evidence
that the money only takes precedence
Cause everybody wants power
While the innocent are born or die, during every hour
I scowl as I look upon evil
but I must have the strength, to spark awareness in my people
And we will learn to respect our neighbors
Another message from the lifesaver
Box in Hand
I can't believe that you would crab me
Undermine me and backstab me
But I can see clearly now the rain is gone
The pain is gone
But what you did was still wrong.
So you can tell everyone that I'm jerking you
And if you don't like it kid
Take it Personal.

Guru, Take it Personal (Motherfuckin Classic)

RIP
The CEO
Guru epitomized the term "REAL MC"...he was born to rap and could go with the best of 'em.

I was bobbin' my head to this one just the other day...

May he RIP...

Another hip-hop great meets their end. So unfortunate. Guru was def one of the best and will be missed by those that truly loved the music. For a tribute to one of the greatest and the man who formed the rap group GangStarr please go to : Gang Starr's Guru Dead at 43: A Memorial and Tribute To A Legend!
