Can't get youtube here so I don't know if its been done, but if not, someone needs to include Lennox Lewis's interview with Larry Merchant after his fight with Vitali Klitchsko. Talk about oblivious. I don't know if I've ever seen a post-fight interview quite like it before.

"Lennox the fans are booing you."
"I wouldn't say that Larry."
pcraw
Who the fuck is Larry Merchant to degrade a fighter? Man I can't wait until he retires!

That's the one I posted laugh.gif

Merchant opens it up with this:

"You said he has no skill level, you said he has no heart. What do you have to say now?"

Then Merchant says something like:

"You were down on all the judges scorecards"

Lewis: "He was going to get knocked out in the next couple of rounds, he was definitely deteriorating, so I don't even know what your talking about Larry"

Larry: "I'm just telling you what the scoring was"

Lewis: Oh ok. (with his dumb look on his face)

That was classic, lol.

I love Larry Merchant. He is rude a lot of the times, but he asks the difficult questions that everyone thinks. If he was just your typical interviewer. We would get the cliché responses from fighters. He calls fighters out on things and I like it.
For example Mayweather boring everyone out against Baldomir (one example). I don't want to hear him say how Floyd made it look so easy and so on. He calls a spade a spade.

Larry Merchant rules.
D-MARV
yeah... Larry is full of shit. He's good at times BUT he's always so fucking negative towards the fighters and he comes off as a RACIST. I'm not saying he is but it wouldn't shock one bit.
King Eugene
I like Larry. You never have any idea what he is about to say next but you best believe its not what the fighter wants to hear. I never saw that interview with BNard though. What fight was that after?

Yep.

He's turned into a grouchy old man who's easily bored and sometimes a bit confused, but he's always honest and sometimes poetic. He's the best - and Kellerman knows he's got some damn big shoes to fill.

I'm so-so on Merchant, but Kellerman fucking sucks compared to Larry.

EXACTLY Prec, but he has been pushed outta line in downtown Philly & he was a so called celebrity! lolz! He won't admit but that don't mean it didn't happen, I know the lil ain'tsta who did it cause I seen it with my own 2 eyes! Larry would have got scuffed it weren't for Bernard Fernadez telling him to STFU before he got hurts...the down side of going for good South Philly Soulfood I guess! I know I enjoyed mine & Larry & Bernard even enjoyed theirs! looz, Larry was about to eat soup for a few months if he didn't chill the fuck out! LOLZ! It was classic! hmmm, 1978 I believe! Showing my age huh?

Damn, I wish you had video taped it. Lol. Larry Merchant doesn't ask questions people want to hear. Howard Cosell did that. Merchant is just a dick. He only expects blood and guts. You have a guy talking shit about greats like, Mayweather, Winky and B Hop but praising Gatti and Morales like they were the next coming of Ray Robinson. His time is up.

Merchant has been in the game long enough to know the politics of boxing and for him to grill Hopkins like that was unnecessary. I wasn't a fan of the Hakkar fight, but I understood at that time Hopkins had to keep every single one of those belts because people weren't dying to see him. Oscar wouldn't have fought him if he wasn't the Undisputed middleweight champion and he wouldn't have his legacy right now if he hadn't defended those titles 20 times. Fuck Merchant. He ask questions people want to hear? Lol. What question did he ask? He was playing the role of promoter and not commentator.

You gotta skip to the 4:00 mark...LOL

I like Larry and all, but he FAR from calls a spade a spade. Larry calls as he wants to see, and how he wants to see things fluctuates on mood, day. Sometimes he's on. Other times he's way outta line.

Morrade Hakkar was a HORRIFIC opponent, but Larry was outta line in his questioning, and he got taken to task on it.

One of the few times Hopkins was able to think quick on his feet AND articulate it efficiently.

Spot on summary. Larry is entertaining, but he's far from the likes of Howard Cosell. Like Meth said, he called it the way he wanted it, not the way it always was, which is probably why people hate him and love him.

Dead On... Larry doesn't seem to appreciate the science of boxing. All he cares about is "Phone Booth" wars, which is fine but don't talk shit about guys like Hopkins and Wright when you praise the likes of Gatti.

Yea, it was funny to see @ 16 years old! He almost got fucked by a 14 year old punk! YOU HAD TO BE THERE! That's the "way it was" speaking of Coselll!

Funny thing is, Merchant was a fan of Hopkins leading up to (and jocked his ass during) the Trinidad fight.

I did some research and found out that the decision was overturned and ruled a NC.

Starling had no clue that he was KO'd.

Starling was a damn good fighter back in the day.

Agreed... There's a reason why Pacquiao decided to stay away from the 140lb division, Too many threats.
Fitz
I hate Pacquiao, but it isn't too many threats at 140 that is keeping him away. It's just more lucrative for him to fight guys at the higher weights classes. More money and it will look more impressive on paper as well, even if it means disadvantaging them.
I think I'm with JD on this one.

As long as you and Spyder believe that Pacquiao's clean, and there's no set ups for him, we will never agree on this one...

I was half joking... But Bradley, Alexander, and Khan ALL pose more of a threat then Margarito. But Pacquiao chose to stay away from those fighters because it's more risk, less money. No problem with that.

The best Holmes interview was the post fight presser after the first Spinks loss. SCATHING...Larry had it (the title and Marciano's record) stolen from him and knew it.
