QUOTE
LONDON -- Former world champion Ricky Hatton was stripped of his boxer's license Thursday after he was found guilty of misconduct by the British Boxing Board of Control following newspaper revelations of drug use.

Hattan also was fined $31,000 at the board hearing Wednesday but kept his promoter's license.

The 31-year-old Hatton, who won four world titles across two weight divisions, recently was admitted to a rehabilitation clinic after a tabloid published pictures of apparent cocaine use in a Manchester hotel room.

"The board found Ricky Hatton guilty of misconduct in that his actions and behavior were detrimental to the interests of boxing and to the public interest and that he had brought the sport into disrepute," the board said in a statement Thursday. "Ricky Hatton is not an active boxer and his current physical condition is such that the board decided to withdraw his boxer's license."

Police have said they will be speaking to Hatton after he has completed his rehabilitation.

Hatton, who has not fought since losing to Manny Pacquiao in May 2009, has been diagnosed with depression and a drinking problem by a specialist.

Hatton said recently that he's had difficulty coping with retirement from boxing.

"The board is especially concerned to keep the sport of boxing free from drugs, whether taken for recreational or performance-enhancing reasons, and to be vigilant in identifying and dealing with cases of alcohol abuse," the statement added.

That's some cold shit when they revoke your license because you're a fatass cokehead laugh.gif

As much as I hate the guy, I can't help but feel that it's a bit of an overkill. I mean what does his personal issues have to do with his actions inside the ring?

Thoughts?

Well, let's be realistic; Ricky Hatton isn't getting back in the ring anytime soon, probably never again. They practically took a license which was of no use to him, unless his license was rolled up and used to do cocaine with.

Yeah, this is pretty stupid. Hatton didn't test positive for cocaine after a professional fight. This ordeal isn't related to the sport whatsoever so why take his license away? Of course, if Margarito got his license back, then I'm sure Hatton will.

I'll take a boxer doing coke over putting plaster in his gloves that could kill another guy..One is murder and one is career suicide..Coke may boost ya up,but it really is a draining drug on the body..Hatton will get his license back if he wants to keep boxing..If that peice of shit Margarito can,Hatton sure can..

Fuck Margarito!!
Lil-lightsout
I think it's messed up they would do that to him. Dude has got some serious problems right now, he obviously needs help. By then taking his license was stupid and not needed at this point.

It is harsh but considering how high profile he is in this country I can understand it. They are sending out a warning that they don't take no shit. Besides, he's practically admitted he hasn't got it in him to fight again so he's not losing out. If they'd have took his promoters license away as well that would have been wrong.

Yeah, the bar was set pretty low there.

Pretty much what I was getting at. If doing lines of coke is bring the sport into disrepute, what about assaulting women as well?

Pretty much... Beating woman, using plaster, and throwing fights all bring the sport into disrepute.

Yeah, he's a high profile sportsman over here. Big time...but they've really gone to town with making an example of him.

Question is though, do they or would they do the same to a pro footballer? They're always in the paper for doing some shit like beating a girl, using prostitutes and drug allegations but they carry on playing football

I think you're obligated to buy prostitutes once you make it to the Premier League, seems that way anyway lol.

What I don't understand is why the lady that exposed Hatton thought this was the best way to go about helping him. Sit down and have a chat with him? That's too logical and discrete.. Time to tarnish his image and embarrass him!

I think the only reason they took his license away is because he got caught on film. If the news had simply broken that he had gone to rehab I bet their stance would've been slightly different.

I just read Ricky's latest interview in News of the Screws. In it he denys having a drug problem and doesn't even think his drinking is too bad! Clearly the dude is in some serious denial and the whole rehab thing is more a publicity stunt rather than him taking it seriously. Hey it's his life to wreck, so more power too huim but you just know that Ricky hasn't hit rock bottom yet. I see another tragic ending in the not too distant future.

I think it's a easy way of setting an example. Hatton isn't going to be fighting again, losing the boxing license wont really hurt him like losing the promoter license would. They get to send a stern message by taking something of little use to someone. If they took the promoter license it'd be a different story.

Don't get me wrong I read it online every day. Where else can I find stories about someones cat being dyed pink, yobs stamping a old lady to death for 20p, "Britons worst scrounger" & how Lewis Hamilton is the worlds greatest F1 driver all in the same website.

Well, I can't say I know the whole situation, but wasn't the video taken by a friend of his? I think the word "friend" would be used rather loosely if they were willing to trade the friendship for some money.

Why do they think that? Button can actually finish a race.

He is the B driver & he is not black nor is he banging the chief hottie from Pussycat Dolls so therefore is not newsworthy.

How else would I find out about Wayne Rooneys sordid 3 somes with "vice girls" & how his "darling" Colleen is coping being a "single mum".

Well, when you put it like that it's hard to disagree. Button needs to step his game up.

The Sun has actually been good for a laugh, their trashing of Premier players is pretty entertaining.

Their coverage of so called celebrities is a fucking embarrassment to Britain, their coverage of politics is blatantly biased right wing bile and poison and the way they carry on around football is laughable. Fuck knows why anyone in sport gives them the time of day. I'd fuckin burn down their building and that slimy little aussie bastard that runs it if i thought i could get away with it.

Rupert Murdoch is such a "tosser".

No doubt it's a shame that that paper has such a grip on the nation.

There are some plus sides though.

The Page 3 are girls lush. I think Nikkala is my favourite and their headlines are fucken classic. I remember one from a few years back when a shepard got pushed off a cliff to his death by his flock of sheep.

"Silenced by the Lambs."

It just don't get better than that.
