The only fighter Mayweather appears to have ducked is Pacquiao.

I've been through the Margarito argument a million times. Arum had EVERYTHING to do with that fight not happening.

Whether he has 'ducked' fighters or not, in the end he didn't get in fights amongst the top welters when they were all fighting each other and that is the cloud that is over his head.

QUOTE (JLUVBABY @ Oct 4 2010, 04:08 AM) *
thing is lil floyd doesnt care about his legacy... if he doesnt care then nothing else will matter...

That's exactly right, but the funny thing about it all is that they Mayweather fans try defend it, when Mayweather clearly doesn't give a shit.

QUOTE (gravytrain @ Oct 4 2010, 04:36 AM) *
Every athlete cares about their legacy to some degree, otherwise they wouldn't be an elite athlete. I think Mayweather uses "I don't care about my legacy, I care about money" as a way to waive off criticism for opponents he's been receiving over the years. And let's be honest, people that care about money don't consider gambling an investment.

Yep, that's what it looks like.
Run and Gun Game Calls
I agree with Bert Sugar on the pac v/s mayweather fight.

gravytrain
Normally I'd agree with Bert Sugar but I don't think this was simply Mayweather's fault. Pacquiao doesn't handle his matchmaking, the guy who does[for the most part] dislikes both Mayweather and his "promoter" GBP. Arum isn't going to mess around with them while he can make other fights. I really don't see Mayweather/GBP bending over backwards to make the fight when they've other options too, they don't care for Arum either. Anytime you've two parties unwilling to compromise coupled with a general distaste for one another they're not going to work well together.

thing is lil floyd doesnt care about his legacy... if he doesnt care then nothing else will matter... he's not gonna fight the p wills or martinez's... or the up and coming canelos or kirklands or angulos... maybe martinez... but i just dont see his mind working that way... it hasnt since he fought hoya... he will take the biggest money fights that are avaliable to him and seriously i dont see him fighting but maybe 2 or 3 more times if that... he'll make the pac fight next year and maybe fight once more in 2012 and i think it'll be his last fight if he even fights again after the pac fight... just my prediction on the guy.. that dude i think is inching more and more out of the sport every day....

Mayweather has been champion since be was 19... beating fighters like Gennaro Hernandez to smithereens at that age. He has been around man... the guy (contrary to blind hate) has a damned good resume... former champions looked like kids in the ring with mayweather critcized for bouts with sharmba mitchell, Judah, Ndou... all formidable fighters that Floyd toyed with and destroyed. I think Mayweather feels he has paid his dues... taken his lumps... and now does what the fuck he wants to get the money. Sugar Ray Leonard never fought Aarron Pryor and people never dumped on him the way they do PBF over Pac. The fight may take place. In the case of Ray and Aaron, Ray said straight up ... it aint happening ( I think Pryor would have pushed him to the limit like Hearns in war). PBF has been open to fight Pac and it has not happened. He has not stated that the fight will not happen. Honestly,, just as Diego Corrales was seen as wrecking ball to send PBF to the canvas, Pac is seen as the same. PBF will dispatch of Pac in dominant fashion if they ever meet. Floyd don't feel anxious. He has proved himself. Pac is going around feasting on left overs that have already been exposed... all losers close to his facing them.. hatton, cotto, Clottey, and now Margarito.. b Margarito a guy JUGGERNAUTED BY SHANE MOSLEY, WHO FLOYD MADE LOOK LIKE A AMATUER... man, please.. I see why Floyd is no rush to whip Pac... He tried once.. Pac balked... he don't need Pac for money or to prove his already established greatness...

You call it nuthuggin. I call it fact. He has lost to nobody and over the last 14 years all your bullshit and rhetoric has meant nothing. Most of the hatas which you all represent in each of the generattions that Floyd has boxed in have absolutely no recourse. You can't even remember your past BS let alone what you're spewing now. Hopefully you'll stay out the sportsbooks. Remember Vegas wasn't built on winners.

I don't think anyone disputes the fact that he has a good resume.

His resume is very, very good. He's beat a lot of champions and good, solid fighters, moving up in weight and made fights look easy.

But, I think, people think for a fighter who is supposedly as 'great' as Mayweather, his resume - although good - isn't 'great'.

And there lies the problem. It's a dammed good resume, but not as good as the past 'greats'.

I agree with that 100% because 1st of all the competition hasn't really been available at the higher weight classes. Who is even out there in this era that could make an interesting 2 fight event or trilogy with Floyd. Howa bout Nobody! I won't even say JLC. Mostly because Floyd was hurt the 1st fight. And if he did lose that fight, why did the judges score the 2nd fight closer when it was quite obvious Floyd won that fight? There's just ODLH and his skills have long past him 2 years prior to fighting Pac. But I don't think Floyd's skills are in question. I think what you have to question is unadulterated bias of your blogbuddies. Not one of these fools has come up with anythng the least bit substantial to solidify their argument if they have one. The bottomline is you can examine legacy after legacy but at the end of the day 42-0 speaks for itself when a fighter is still active. You could make the same arguments about Marciano facing an Old Jersey Joe Walcott and an over the hill Joe Louis. Not to mention facing Ezzard Charles long after Ezzard had seen his best days and retiring before he met Floyd Patterson ( the greatest of all Floyds to box). By the way I do recent the Mayweather nuthugger tag. I'm not a nuthugger because 95% of these sorry mf's have no argument! NONE!

Thats what Ricky Hatton was prior to Floyd dragging him out of is weight class. 42-0 doesnt mean shit. Like Floyd, you have become fixated ny that 0. How do you rate Joe Calzaghes 0? You really think there are no fights out there for Floyd since coming to 147? Get a fucking grip. Why do you think people in the last 3 or 4 years have regarded 147 as one of the deepest divisions in boxing? Everyone else has managed to consistently find the big fights against the top tier opponents, except Floyd.

A lot of boxing fans do have this arguement about Rocky, your clearly one of them, so once again, WHY is it so incomprehensible to you that someone would argue the same point about your hero?

Never been a Calzaghe fan but he did have skills and fought everybody they put in front of him and he was sucessful. You may not like him as a fighter but nobody can belittle what Joe accomplished.Nobody. The record speaks for itself! At that point the most you can be is a Naysayer, Detractor, Hata whatever etc......

And by the way, PBF ain'y my hero. Far from it. The only problem for you is that your argument carries no merit because there's nothing tangible to substabtiate your PBF hatred outside of the fact as a boxing fan for some reason you feel somewhat pissed on. Well there's lots of other young guys coming up the pipe that you can hang your hat on. Just remember that just because you don't like someone personally doesn't mean they're not the best at what they do. Obviously Calzaghe was the best at what he did. Deal with it. Maybe Floyd is no different.

Actually I was a Calzaghe fan, he was the reason that I have been to Madison square garden and the reason I have seen Roy Jones Jr (albeit a faded one) in the flesh. But my point was his record is hotly debated despite his "0". Hence, an "0" is not all its cracked up to be. Floyd may well be the best at what he does. The point myself and lots of others have been making all along, is that he refuses to prove it time and time again. The opponents are out there for him. Thats undeniable.

As for my hate being unsubstantiated, well thats just plain bullshit. How many reasons do you want for hating a man?

Hahaha. Calzaghes resume is average at best. You speaking on his behalf cause he retired undefeated is quite funny.

And the more you keep posting just shows how you are naive, clueless, dense, whatever etc......

I did hate Michael Jackson. And I do hate Floyd. Theres no excuse, NONE, for being a cock like Floyd is. Its a different arguement, and probably a bit too deep and profound for this thread, but the world would be a better place if we all just behaved like decent humans. Floyd feels that the pursuit of money is more important than common decency.

Also, I bet you dont know him anyway, so why cant you admit that the prick has shortcomings.? I'm sick to death of repeating myslef on this, but theres not a poster on this board who denies Floyds boxing skills, but do you really think we are all just "haters" because we question his career? You need to take a fucking reality check. Floyds resuume has been and will continue to be one of the most talked about subjects in boxing for years to come, by both respected writers, and punters like myself, and yet superfans like you still refuse to admit it or even discuss it. You're fuckin embarassing yourself. Theres probably a place on the internet for this level of nuthugging, but fighthypes not it, cos this place of full of knowledgeable people who can discuss this rationally and acknowledge eachothers opinion

zWho should he have fought? Name one fighter with the following oF Hatton that brought nearly 10,000 Irish boys to Vegas? who? That's what that fight was all about! As far as Zab, that fight had to happen. some of us who followed both these guys as amateurs were looking for that bout for a long time. And as crazy as it was, itwasn't a bad bought. far more entertaining than Pac vs Clottey or even Cotto vs Foreman. That was a legit bout. And, last I checked it wasn't exactly a walk in the park for Floyd either! You know I remember a seeing Manny get his ass thoroughly kicked in San Fran in 2001 against Agapito Sanchez or seeing him get obviously beat up by JMM in the 1st fight and than Morales whooped his ass something awful in the 1st fight. Is this why they don't say that Manny has fought a bunch a weak ass fighters?

Living in Vegas, most casinos thought a figure like that to be highly inflated. 40k?Only reason a figure like that would be on the table is 2 reasons.1Tourism! 2. Tourism! Convincing foreigners that the dollar is so weak (and it was) that any good ol Manchester boy could bring as many drinkin buddies as he needs. And if you want to call Urango and Malignaggi competiton not to mention the great Lus Collazo. I think you might want to re-evaluate what sub-par means!!

Surf the net all you want Sparky. Go to a gym and talk to a trainer. Better yet spend some money and go get some instruction from a guy like McGirt or Julio Martinez. They're accessible! These guys have worked with all these boxers and can teach you to identify fighters by skill sets and identify skill sets by understanding and developing the tools to actually box. This is where one falls short when he says these claims are ridiculous. To you, yes!Of course they are! But than again, red light meaning stop, and green light means go is probably a mystery to you also! You have to have a point of reference with the actual sport itself. Not just the fighters in it! Here lies your disparity. If you even saw the Mayweather vs Corley fight you would know exactly what the naysayers were getting so excited about! But being it there's a lack of foundation when it comes to you understanding the sport itself, what's referred to as "the Sweet Science" there can really be no further understanding of the actual sport. If you spent a lousy $500.00 and show up at a real gym 3x's a week for a half a month with a real trainer whose actually trained a champion you'd have a much different perspective. but I know that hands on experience can be a bit more than some want but it's worth it and makes boxing a lot more fun. You'll quickly realize that the sport itself isn't about any of the shit people talk about on this site.

You buddy! Naysayers. You know guys who are always saying this guy is ducking this guy or that guy. You want a rolodex of what guys like yourself were saying when Floyd fought Chop Chop? What are you kiddin? I'm not providing you with shit but an address!

JOHNNY TOCCO'S BOXING GYM

I read that as Johnny Taco.

So there you have it Mustard. Ring the gym & ask to speak with random fighters/staff about their thoughts on a meaningless fight that happened six years ago. Don't forget to ask them who they were tipping because it seems like a good portion of this gym were tipping Corley as he is just so dangerous.

Well Mustard first you gotta go to Vegas & join a gym to be trained by Buddy McGirt or someone & then you will have a true understanding that not only was Corley feared but boxing is a tough sport & by learning that you will truly understand that Floyd has faced & beaten all comers.

That's the most intelligent statement you've made. I was trying to give you the incite that you're desparately missing. I notice it's a sore subject because you really don't understand! It doesn't have to be a known trainer. I suggested that because a known guy will look at you feel sorry for you and take your money in an effort to show you what can repeal your dilema. A normal trainer would kick your sorry ass outta his gym!
E.C.LEGEND
I wonder how the old guys(Hopkins, Jones, and Toney) resumes would have looked with stacked divisions? Maybe if they did floyd would have some modern legends to compare himself to, not old-school greats that can never be touch!

I understand plenty. No I have not done any formal training in boxing but I certainly understand the sport & how demanding it is to become proficient in it let alone world class.

None of that changes the fact that you make outlandish claims about how Corley was widely considered a dangerous opponent for Floyd & have substantiated absolutely nothing regarding those claims.

That's the thing, I never claimed PBF was ducking Corley, you did. So you're a naysayer lol.

LOL Stevenski. This guy should stop spending so much time at Johny's Taco gym, and learn how to conduct a proper discussion.

Well they would hav elooked evern better than they already do. That said there are a bunch of fighters who do care about legacy & facing the best. Vic is a great example of that where he will face anyone anywhere any time & do his utmost to beat them down. Win or lose that adds to legacy.

Yeah that reminds me of my favorite qoute "In order to be great you have to learn how to lose" Michael Jordan. Winning all of the time can be just as bad as losing.

No but you do have to know how to dribble. How would you truly know the beauty of Calvin Murphy or Gus Williams or Isaih Thomas if you can't even dribble? Chances are all you could talk about is a sex scandal. and that's along way from a crossover!

Do you know how DUMB you sound right now? Where did dribbling come from? All of the greats lost(with the exception of one). What made them great was the heart and determination they showed when everyone thought they were out, Then to come out victorious.......man I miss that in boxing.
