Just sitting here thinking, how good is Chad Dawson. To me, he appears to have all the physical qualities to be one of the greats. But there seems to always be something missing. Chad to me 1st seemed like he was going to dominate the light heavy division. He had all the qualities, but never really had a breakout fight. If you ask me, with the exception of Glen Johnson, and maybe adamek(both of whom he defeated) Chad shuld have pretty much been knocking out whoever was in front of him. Not to many light heavy's have his hand speed, and we all know, speed kills.

So i ask you guys. What do you think of Chad? And what do you think the future has in store for him.

For whatever reason, I was never as sold on him as everyone else seemed to be. I thought Glenn Johnson deserved the "W" the first go-round, although Chad made good in the rematch.

Pacal thoroughly outboxed him for 10 rounds, but was lucky the fight ended when it did.

Whats funny is i did see a small ounce of desperation on Chad's face at the end of the 10th, but he just couldnt do what the greats do in that situation. Its almost like he is unsure of himself. I heard some people say his next fight is against Bernard. Well, if you have any doubts in your abilities, the last person to get in the ring with his BHOP.

Dawson has the skill and natural ability. I just don't think that his head is in it at all times in the ring. It is almost like he doesn't want to be there or that he is preoccupied with other thoughts. He also doesn't seem to have that ruthless edge or fire.

I'm damn close to the edge of saying he lacks heart but I'm not convinced of that.

Good call. I don't think he lacks heart either necessarily. He's kind of like a less exciting Zab Judah. He just doesn't have the ability to concentrate or focus for an entire fight it seems, which I think is what you were alluding to.

That said I think he deserves a fight with Hopkins and I think he has a chance to win it.

Pascal didn't outbox anything, He may have outworked Chad but he certainly didn't out box him.

Chad will make some noise again. He's one of the top 3 pure boxers in the game right now (Hopkins, Mayweather). But he just lacks that fire. He doesn't seem like he wants to win half of the time. I felt he could have taken Pascal out at any point past the 6th round in their fight. Hopefully, working with Steward will help him. I think he beats Hopkins and that will be enough to put him back on the pound for pound list.

Im w you there. If he lacked heart, he;'d have packed it in vs Pascal. It took him 10.5 rounds to wake the fuck up.

I think Bernard is gonna feast on him.

If B-Hop beat Dawson it would be his best win since Trinidad.

he kind of reminds me of Chris Bosh. sometimes he can have a great game but he doesn't have that fire inside of him to truly make him a dominant athlete. that and he's one goofy motherfucker. but even when he's playing well there are times where he's not confident in himself and instead of trying to score he holds back and bullshits a little before going for it.

I still believe that Chad Dawson is one of the best fighters, maybe top 5 and he will be back on top he just needs to regain focus. His last fight with Diaconu wasn't too exciting but he got the W. I think when he fights Bhop he will be back on top. That will be the defining fight for Chad, but I think he beats Hopkins in a decision which will bring a rematch and Chad wins the rematch which will be Hopkins last fight. Pascal won their fight but in the 11th round he was ready to go and i think the head butt was intentional because he felt the pressure.

Chad Non-Chalant Dawson would be an amazing fighter if he would juss let his hands go.. sometimes you gotta please your fans and throw caution to the wind and swing for the fences... He has the speed, power, agility, all he needs is the demeanor to fit his name... he gots to be BAD.

That describes him perfect. He will go down as the most "Non-Chalant" fighter in history.

If you look up boxer in the dictionary...chad's picture is there....for some odd reason....Chad just doesn't seem there.

Chad has a lot of tools to be a great fighter but sometimes you got to get disrespectful. Chad needs to be a little bad outside of the ring. If I was Chad I would be disrespecting Hopkins on every interview and in front of every camera. I would call Bhop old and Impotent and tell everyone Bhop needs Viagra. Why? Chad doesn't really have a crowd pleasing style so in oder to get a big following he needs to bring drama into the fight. Then let his fist do the talking in the ring..same for Andre ward. Not to many do-gooders make the big bucks in boxing but controversy sells. Look at Mayorga...you know he's gonna lose but he gets big fights by being the bad guy.
alaganza
Chad has no killer instinct!!!
JONdaCON817
He juss laccs that intesity in the ring.. when you whoop someones ass or hit someone flush with dynamite it makes you wanna yell at the top of your lungs!!... AHHHHHHHHHHH.

Dawson Dawson Dawson

He is one of my Favs also but gosh lee batman this kid like everyone says just is out of it in the ring half the time
at times you see flashes of great movement and power and setups....but then you see confusion, lost, more confusion and so on
why? who knows...but he did do his thing on the Bhop/Pascal under card...he got caught with some huge right hands and stayed up...actually pressed harder...so we see he can take a shot....he just has to work on his focus (like everyone else said) He'll be fine and look forward to seeing him trash Bhop who dodge the hell of him years ago lol....

On another note...if Bhop beats Dawson then on my lord Bhop is the truth
I could care less about the Pascal win because Pascal is power and speed
no skill once so ever...he drops his head and runs in and real boxer can handle this
shoot Dawson would of stopped the kid had the fight had not stopped that's my 2cents

i think you all make vaild points. especially about how non-chalant he is. I was looking for a word to describe him and just couldnt find it. Well there it is. I do remember he tested positive for weed at least once.. so maybe he fires off a doobie before he gets in the ring...

Chad didn't look so good in his last fight, but he pulled off the victory, so I guess that's a start.

B-Hop is already the truth.

Say whatever about Pascal, cuz I do, but he beat Dawson, and did so relatively easy before he got that lucky out.

Bernard is about to school another young buck who ain't got the heart or hunger for this sport. This will be Jermain Taylor all over again...my only concern is whether or not Bernard gets jobbed on the scorecards again.

At this point, given the bit of sustained victory lap Ex has enjoyed, I think the masses have finally bought into his story, and, because of that, I think he would get the benefit of the doubt on close rounds, etc. Also, W JT, HBO was banking on him being the "Heir Apparent", and he was undefeated going in vs Hopkins. Here, while I understand HBO had some vested interest in Chad like they did JT, it seems the luster is off the Dawson stone, and he has also tasted defeat. He's also not much of a moneymaker.

I dunno.

With Dawson being a southpaw and having an appetite for right hands, this'll be a long night for Not-So-Bad Chad.

neophyte7
Meth, you make a great point... the straight right hand of Hopkins is as accurate as anyone all time. At 46 he actually displays accuracy with the straight right on par with Floyd Mayweather... Dawson fucked up when he left Mayweather SR... see sometimes you have to humble yourself. Dawson seems to have an arrogance about him which translates into his laid back "thinking he is better than he is" persona in the ring. Hopkins near 40 was still being called "KID" BY HIS TRAINER- BOUIE FISHER... I am not sure what happened between he and Floyd SR... but CHAD don't seem like the type that can handle tough straight talk.. EMMANUEL IS A MORE LAID BACK NOW.

Man, JT really let me down. I used to think he had so much potential and I also enjoyed watchin' his fights, but he lacked the ability stay composed when facin' adversity. For some reason, he'd always fold when he was under pressure. As far as Chad goes, I think Bernard will school him like he's never been schooled before.

It'll be real interesting to see these two interact in the lead-up to this sucker. Real. Interesting.

If I was Bernard id keep it respectful in the build up, right up until the last couple of conferences or the HBO face to face and casually drop in somethin about Dawsons wife carryin his balls around in her purse, right out of the blue

Im tellin ya...it'll be interesting to see how Dawson goes about it, and it'll be real interesting to see how Hopkins goes about it. Will it be respectful? I dunno. Is Hopkins gona dog Dawson out and try and punk him out? Will Ex just keep it business? Dunno. Will Chad be respectful? Will he dawg Hopkins on his age or whatever recent "L's" or draws/performances? It could be pretty cool to see how these two try to play each other.

Maybe that is why he can't seem to keep his mind in the ring, he's thinking about his wife tightening the tether.

Yeah... that was evident in his bout against Pascal when he marched into the ring with his little boy like his wife gave him an order to walk the kid to school!!!

Chad lacks the fire to be great. Really disappointing because, at one time, I thought he would dominate the division for at least a decade. I'm not really a fan of his marriage with Steward and I smell trouble ahead against Hopkins. Two to three years ago, I had him beating Bernard handily. If he's busy enough against the old man, he can snag a decision but Tavoris Cloud would give him hell.
