Let the Kimbo Slice boxing hype begin. The 37 year old Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson finally has had the opponent named for his boxing debut at the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Oklahoma on August 13th. He will face off against Springfield, Missouri's 39 year old James Wade (0-1), who lost his own debut to Carlos Torres in Oklahoma in January by way of a 3rd round KO.

Slice was nurtured in a MMA career that saw him go 3-0 before being stopped by Seth Petruzelli for Elite XC in October of 2008. Following that debacle, he was picked up by the UFC for season 10 of The Ultimate Fighter and would go on to post a record of 1-1 for that promotion before his release.

Wade appears to be a good candidate for the novice and hard hitting Slice to start his career off against. Let the hype and hoopla begin, until Slice has to face a seasoned boxer that is.

strength can only get you so far in boxing. he will eventually face an opponent that can simple out box him and he will lose

boxing is more to the fitting for a guy like kimbo.. with that being said even though he should have a little more success i would think in boxing he wont have much success... their are some guys that are considered bum fighters that can really fight... and when i say really fight i mean fight better than those backyard beer bums kimbo beat up on youtube..

i honestly woulda thought that atleast with his MMA experience theyd start him off with a guy who was 3-0 or atleast 1-1.. not a 39 yr old 0-1 fighter who got KOd in his debut... smh.

Kimbo better stay away from the vets, ko artists', sam peters, arreola's and even the audley harrison's

You have to be in tremendous condition to be an MMA fighter and Slice proved that he could not go 3 rounds. Now, in boxing there is no grappling, but he is going to have to be throwing more punches than he was used to in MMA. Maybe he'll do well in 4 rounders but after that he's not going to last a full 10-12 rounds.

Kimbo's hands are garbage and his chin is worse. I don't expect him to even win his debut fight.

I wonder if they will let him keep the beard, since you can't have one that big in boxing?

I don't know. The guy he's matched with is 39yr old 0-1 losing via KO...doesn't really sound like a guy capable of winning a board game, never mind a boxing match.

Kimbo always was just a boxer of sorts in his ST fights. Not sure why he took up MMA, boxing always made more sense. Unfortunately his too old now to go anywhere.

Exactly how I felt. Oh well... I'm sure he'll do well in the 4 rounders.
