Amir Khan has declared himself happy to undergo any drug test required to ensure he can fight Floyd Mayweather. Khan, who became unified world light-welterweight champion at the weekend by adding Zab Judah's IBF title to his WBA belt in Las Vegas, has his sights set on a showdown with Mayweather next year after he steps up to the 147-pound division.
The 34-year-old American has made it clear that any opponent must consent to his stringent drug-testing demands, something that has already proved a stumbling block in negotiations for a clash with Manny Pacquiao.
Last week Mayweather's uncle and trainer Roger accused Khan of taking steroids, but the Bolton fighter is not concerned by the allegations - which he strenuously denies - or the prospect of any testing procedure.
"I am a clean fighter - I get drug-tested in between, before and after fights," Khan, who won an Olympic silver medal aged 17 in 2004, told Press Association Sport.
"Whatever test he wants me to do, I'm happy to do it. When you see a fighter being very successful, I think people just want to put the fighter down and I think they were doing that by saying I was on steroids. I've never taken drugs in my life and never will, so that is why I am so keen on taking a test.
"I think they just want to break down fighters and get right into their heads. With me, it just doesn't work - I've been in the game getting drug tested since I was an Olympic athlete, so I don't think it will ever affect me.
"It gets petty when they talk about things like that, but (trainer) Freddie (Roach) and I are happy for me to take a drug test whenever."
Asked about his relationship with Mayweather, Khan said: "I've met him once or twice and we get on quite well, but I think when you are facing someone or fighting them, that respect kind of disappears.
"I think if I see him now, because he is a future opponent, it will be a little bit different."

Boxingscene.com is reporting that, in addition to blood and urine testing, Floyd Mayweather is now requiring all future opponents to undergo scholastic aptitude testing. Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe stated that "too many fighters in boxing is stupid" and that this new testing procedure will help in "raising the collective educational standards of the sport". Floyd Mayweather himself commented thru press release, "Like I said before, too many fighters is cheating in the sport of boxing, and in many cases the fighters aren't truly understanding what they are putting into their bodies because they are ignorant of the difference between vitamins and power pellets. There needs to be scholastic aptitude testing in boxing to truly clean up the sport of boxing. Floyd Mayweather is willing to take the tests, and any future opponent I face must take the tests as well."
Leonard Ellerbe further outlined the scholastic testing protocol, "The United States Department of Education (ED) is the official, cabinet-level department for education across the country. They will be implementing scholastic testing for every fight Floyd Mayweather engages in. All questions will be randomly generated, multiple-choice questions, both reading and mathematics. This protocol will be fully implemented for the upcoming Victor Ortiz fight on September 17th."
Boxingscene.com caught up with Victor Ortiz after the press release. "I just thought, you know, it was kinda crazy. But it's like, you know, whatever man, I been through so much in my life, this is just more nonsense put in between me and my grand prize on September 17th. I'm gonna get 1600 on that bitch, and then I'mma do a number on that 0 of Mayweather's."
Following the press release, Yahoo.com managed to get in contact with members of Pacquiao's team including promoter Bob Arum, who said, "This is just absolute horse shit on Mayweather's part. I mean, they're running from us. They're running from us. If it wasn't clear before, it's demonstrably obvious now to the world: Floyd Mayweather is scared of Manny Pacquiao."
Advisor Michael Koncz added, "You know, the whole Mayweather fiasco is a non-issue as far as I'm concerned. They never wanted the fight, and this is just another way for them to prevent any sort of negotiations from taking place. How are you going to ask Manny Pacquiao, a foreign born fighter, to take an American scholastic aptitude test? You know, Pacquiao can write an essay, it's multiple choice. I believe it's multiple choice. It's my understanding that it is multiple choice questions and, you know, Manny's highly educated on both Philippine and American history and geography, but asking him to take a math test is absurd. I'm the one who takes care of the accounting. Manny despises mathematics, it gives him a headache, so I take care of all the accounting, all the balances, I take care of all of that. Manny doesn't want to have to deal with numbers. That's just not.... I'm absolutely dumbfounded by Mayweather's new gimmick. But, you know, I'm not surprised."
Wow. This is just ridiculous now.

I agree that its probably Arum who didnt want Pacquiao to subject to Floyds demmands. Kinda like what Dundee did with the Leonard Hearns fight. He just didnt thought it would raise so many red flags, so now his prized possesion have that steroids/peds rumors.

Actual say? Yeah, Arum definitely has more of it. But Roach has been on record numerous times saying how the testing demands are unnecessary, outrageous, ludicrous, etc., etc. How is going to look for him to say it's okay for one fighter but not for another? Definitely not a good for Team Pacquiao as a whole.

Roach gets paid to get Khan ready for fights. if he got paid for making the fights then i could see what you're saying. at the end of the day Roach is just giving his opinion and doesn't make that decision for Khan, Khan and GBP is. just like Roach isn't making the decision when it comes to Pac.

Exactly. He doesn't get paid for making fights, so he shouldn't be giving his opinion on what should or should not be in the negotiation contracts, especially if he's going to contradict himself later. It just draws suspicion as to why he feels one way in regards to one fighter, and another way to another, when the same question is asked.

Roach knows it's in Pac's interest to postpone the fight with Floyd as long as possible. The tests are a totally convenient excuse to fill stadiums fighting B+ level opponents while the fight simmers. Roach knows that Pac (and Roach) is better off without Floyd. And Khan, god bless him, would make more money fighting Floyd (and will go 12 rounds because Floyd won't risk getting hurt) than he would with 5 other guys. And from Khan's perspective, there ain't no shame in losing a decision to Floyd.

some trainers do more talking than the fighters these days. Roach's opinion means nothing when it comes down to the fights. he could say the testing is complete bullshit but if GBP can get Khan in the ring with Mayweather they're going to do it whether or not Roach likes it. if Khan was in Pac's position we wouldn't see him being so quick to make the fight.
