I fail to realize how someone with half-a-brain could consider this fighter the best. As far as I'm concerned, from where I sit, and according to many; to be the best, you have to beat the best. Ric Flair always said; 'To be the man, you have to beat the man'. Lou DiBella, my hometown promoter, has stated that he thinks that Floyd Mayweather would be the one to take the fight. Manny Pacquiao has one million excuses yet again. He fought Margarito, who's the same size as Martinez, but Martinez is just too big for Pacquiao. The reason has nothing to do with size. It has everything to do with the ability. We all know that Margarito is flat footed, slow, and has been brutally knocked out in the past (just like Miguel Cotto). Sergio Martinez, on the other hand, is a fighter that just KO'd an undefeated fighter. People may say that Dzinzurik was a smaller man moving up, but so was Martinez when he won Ring Magazine (Lineal) Championship from Pavlik. It's not about the size of the fighter, it's about the size of the fignt inside of the fighter. If he's not going to take no for an answer, then he will fight hard for the victory. We'll see what happens against Barker when they meet. Pacquiao needs to do something drastic to re-assert himself back in the equation. Beating Marquez will mean nothing. If Mayweather and Pacquiao finish their careers without fighting, we will have nothing to compare but their jackets. Mayweather's list of fighters heading down the stretch would trump Pacquiao's. Especially if he goes undefeated, while beating the winners of today's big fights (not the fights from 2 years prior). We will see what happens in the ring in the future. People talk, the media talks, and the fighters talk. At some point you have to get in there and prove it. Mayweather's been proving it, and he'll prove it once again on Sept. 17th. Pacquiao's proved nothing to me. Marquez will still be able to use his technical ability to further expose the flaws Mosley exposed in Pac's game. I'm confident that Floyd Mayweather will remain undefeated going down the stretch. Fighters are so concerned by his speed. I wanna see Manny step up. If he beats Marquez easily, he has to step up to the plate. If he fights anyone other than Mayweather in May of 2012, I will not let any of the 'talkers' live it down. Our guy's (USA) ready to fight. Tell Team Pacquiao that we'll be waiting for him on the other side. Don't flake out.

wow. now dibella's resorted to begging. very unflattering. he should really just focus on optimizing sergio's situation. he's riding a great wave and he can create his own huge paydays by becoming a draw in the sport. he has the skills. i can't understand why this guy is fighting on the east coast when it is clear that he has a serious base here in socal. martinez is the kind of fighter that can fill staples with the right opponent.

Interesting remarks from Dibella. I can see his points but I'm questioning the motives. It's obvious that he wants to capitalize on Martinez's momentum, maybe he should go about it another way though

All that we can hope for, is that Martinez's fight with Baker happens to take a mysterious turn and Sergio ends up looking shitty during some part of the fight. Then Im sure that EEEEVERYBODY will come out of the woodworks and demand a fight with him. Other than that, we can just hold our breath and hope that these other guys will grow some balls in the next few months dntknw.gif

Good post Haz, plenty of good points throughout. The middleweight champ def isnt too big for Manny, and Manny definitely has done nothing impressive throughout his career, thus, you are right that its time for him to step up to the mark, "Floyd style".

If Manny doesnt agree to all of Floyds demands, including extra drug tests, and drop his lawsuit against the Mayweathers for slandering his name all over the media, which he has no right to bring up anyway, and step up and fight Mayweather (who is in no way responsible for this fight not happening) then you should definitely come in here and single out all the talkers one by one and use your words and eloquence to completely destroy them.

Lloyd, Lloyd, Lloyd we've talked about this, stay out of this thread and let Haz kick it with his t-shirt crew. laugh.gif

Fuck these Floydiots. They're like the Borg.

neither of them will take the fight.

why the fuck should either of them take the fight. what the fuck this guys a muppet. not Haz btw am on about DiBella. I don't understand why fighters need to keep putting on weight and moving up and up, soon enough we'll have david haye calling out mayweather and pacman. if martinez wants to go up the p4p go gain weight and win a lot of belts, beat a lot of serious contenders, and then he can be p4p number 1

Sad, but true. They just need to make the best of Sergio's present situation, instead of trying to force guys to move up or threatening his own performance by attempting to move down to '54. Although Dibella says that Martinez can fluctuate between '54 and '60...Im hard pressed to believe that he his performance will be greater by stepping down in weight.

No serious contenders want to fight him.. get the dilemma? I actually thought the angulo match up would have been good, but he wanted no piece of Martinez. Cause im positive he will ko marg, cotto, chavez Jr, or Canelo. He's a very good fighter with a pretty good trainer, sucks no one really wants to fight him. But he's giving these other European prospects some shots though, that's commendable.

they would be meeting in the middle and all three of them have had at least one fight at 154. Pac and mayweather wouldn't be doing anything they haven't done before. Martinez isn't asking anyone to come to 160 and is willing to come in 6 pounds under the limit.

But neither of those guys have fought a serious threat at that weight. This guy is arguably the best active fighter now, so I guess its understandable why manny or Floyd wouldn't even want to be in the same room has him. But I've heard a lot of rumors that Floyd is seriously considering the fight, don't know if its true or not tho.

they both held a title at that weight. it's not like they fought some fringe top 10 fighter then said 154 is too heavy for them.

Sorry but pac vs marg coming of a long lay off after being lit up by sugar for a vacant title just doesn't qualify as a quality opponent to me..
The de la hoya fight was legit but dlh of then is not as good as the sergio of now. So they have never fought a guy of this level at that weight, which again is a rational explanation why they won't fight him.

and that's exactly why boxing keeps slipping. the two fighters representing the sport will go up a division for a safe fight but wont take on the MW champion at 154. the MW champion coming down from 180+ to make 154. i bet if Martinez looked shitty in his next fight Mayweather and Pac would be all over him as a potential opponent.

Completely agree, and of course Martinez would take that fight because he is aging and its possibly his last shot at a good pay day.

This is also another sad point because he is not considered a big name even though he is an exciting fighter to watch who isnt a sloppy brawler like most other fan favorites.
This guy could sell very well if he was promoted better.

This is exactly what I stated earlier on this thread no2.gif It's sad, but true.

I wonder how martinez will look though? Will he be weight drained i wonder.

This is a brilliant consideration and the results of such an act, are not likely to produce positive results...too bad Martinez doesn't feel this way. The boxing world has ways of promoting a fight, to the point of straying unqualified observers away from the obvious drawbacks of the fighters entering these bouts. If Martinez were to prune down '54, I wouldn't expect to see him at his best.
gravytrain
i don't think Martinez would drain himself for a fight. he set 154 as the lowest he'll go so to me that means he wont go out of his comfort zone. he might take an extra round off but i don't see him being like DLH when he fought Pac.

I don't think anyone is dying to get in the ring with Maravilla and I believe even if he looked bad in a fight...NO WAY Pacman or FMJ would fight him! Just my opinion, I think they would both lose to Maravilla.

But, if either did take the SMartinez challenge, it would silence all credible critics.

Oh no doubt about that...Pacman and FMJ for the most part have each other or truly move up with no catch weighs!
