So.....I'm watching the Face-Off and I'm trippin' on how Floyd is disrespectin' the whole thing. I'm all for the "selling the fight", but dayum, Floyd is clownin'. Exactly how serious is Floyd taking this? Antics or real? Thoughts?

Both fighters made great points, but yeah...Floyd was doing too much this time, and Kellerman was starting to kiss his butt for a minute. He did a great job of making Ortiz look like an ass, but it didn't seem to work on Miguel. Cotto's whole mannerism and reaction (or lack thereof) makes Floyd look childish.

It was interesting to watch for sure. Floyd was a little distracted haha, but with 100K on the line, well, shit. They seem to have a healthy respect for each other, but having said that, damn, let's see some fireworks !

More interesting, was when Floyd had to point out to Max, that Floyd was, in deed, the challenger to Miguel's championship belt. I usually like Max, but he should've charged Floyd for that meal, considering how much he catered that event.
Also, it looked as if Floyd was having a hard time figuring out Miguel. When you watch it again, notice how focused on Miguel was, as if he were reading him. Who knows? Maybe I'm reading too much into it.

Yep...rookie mistake my Max, but he was kissing Floyd's butt for a second, so maybe he got caught up in the moment.

I am just glad they were not grinning. Cotto actually further sold me on this fight by looking confident and not lost unlike Ortiz who seemed lost.
Floyd even paid attention to what he was saying instead of looking at Max's Prada shoes. There is a definitely mutual respect which is nice to see. 24/7 will probably focus on how each fighter hates Arum and the speculation of steroid use from a certain fighter. I guess this will be my 1st PPV of this year...

She said this in the "Preview Of May/Cotto Face-Off" thread and I agreed with her. We both were wrong. That was some nice-ass editin' by HBO

Come on guys. How can you even discuss anything in terms of Floyd taking this fight seriously or not. He will come ready, motivated, conditioned and hungry as always. Of course he is taking this fight seriously...Don't forget that talking during face-off is not boxing during fight night. We all know Floyd is not the best speaker ever....and Miguel is a pretty cool sometimes almost emotionless dude...who chickens with his right when he jabs and is wide open for straight rights.
"Who work harder than me? No athlete work harder than me. Fuck fighters. No athlete works harder than me. ... You tell me one athlete right now that has been dominating the game for 16 years straight without a loss? Tell me one. Tell me just one. That ends it all, and I'm gone."

my take on the face-off....
floyd looked nervous and much more respectful than normal. his whole checking on his bet....switching his seat twice...and all of that seemed a little out of character for a guy who is normally cool, calm and collected during these face offs. he also may be trying to disarm cotto by paying him respect with all the compliments. i may be reading a bit much into it...but i think he has way more respect for cotto than any of the opponents he's had in quite some time. i also believe cotto is more dangerous than anyone he's faced since jose luis castillo. this is going to be a fight. cotto's flaws and all...he's going to test mayweather like he hasn't been tested in quite some time.

I think so, too. Floyd said Cotto used to watch him train when they were both signed to Top Rank, then he went on to say how he's honored to have guys like Broner and Cotto watch him, take what they've learned from watchin' him and implement it into their own style and be successful with it. Referrin' to Cotto, Floyd said somethin' along the lines of "Cotto is like me. I see the movement, etc... Some of that comes from me." So yeah, Cotto may be more of a threat in that sense. In a different interview (
Portrait Of A Fighter: Floyd Mayweather on HBO to be exact), Floyd also said, "I respect every opponent. I respect 'em as a man 1st, but every opponent has to make me respect their fight game."
When I find the video interview, I'll post it.

Since my reply is so anticipated, I caught the last few minutes, I was busy watching Baylor go 40-0.
What I did see was nerves coming from Floyd. He was jittery and somewhat taken aback because Miguel was so cool and unfazed at Floyd's antics. When Cotto would talk he would look directly at Max. Cotto was not kissing Floyd's ass acting like he was happy to be there. What I did like about the interview was and for the first time, Floyd actually was out done. Cotto did not give into Floyd's banter and in the end it was Floyd who kept complementing Cotto. He called him a "silent killer" which made Cotto blush. So the mind games has already started and I would reward Cotto with the first point.

Floyed wasnt himself... period..
At first I thought, "man, he is really trying to pull some type of reaction out of Cotto, he is really trying to fuck with his head"..
But after he kept going on and on I actually took a different opinion...He looked nervous
Im not saying he is scared by any stretch, but it looks like he doesnt know how to take Cotto. The constant compliments, the look of intent while Cotto was talking.. even the jokes with him and Cotto chiming in and asking about the betting.. I think its all about trying to get some type of reaction from Cotto which he didnt achieve..
Contrary to what most are saying here I am giving Cotto a firm chance in this fight..I think we all to often get lost in the glits and glamour that is Paq and May and build a veil of invincibility around them..
Cotto comes to fight, and plus he can box... though he is out weighed in most areas in this fight, I give him a solid shot against Floyed.

although i think this fight should have happened years ago...i think cotto at one point was being groomed to face mayweather. he faced a serious of fighters that i thought were prepping him. u can never get the kind of preparation u need...but with that in mind, i don't think cotto will have problems dealing with floyds speed or boxing. he has had problems with constant pressure and guys forcing him to fight a very active pace. floyd does neither and he knows that. cotto is a well rounded fighter. he has a very solid trainer in his corner. i'm sure they'll have more than one game plan. i'm eager to see this thing play out. i give him a very firm chance as well.
ppl say mayweather is unbeatable. i've never believed that. everyone is beatable. he and his ppl have just been very good at picking opponents who have some of the ingredients to beat him but fall short in most areas. in comparison to most of those opponents....cotto has way more ingredients. the things he will need to do to beat floyd, he is very capable of doing. i can't wait to see this fight!

I was thinkin' how Mayorga tried every thing in his book to get into Cotto's head, but Cotto never got frustrated and bodied that dude. He kept his composure and handled himself like a Champion.
