Best Boxing Movie: Great White Hype: I loved Samuel L. Jackson in this movie! I like his character better than Pulp Fiction. It was an all star cast. Peter Burg as Irish Terry Coughlin, Damon Waynes, Kadeem Hardison, Jamie Fox, Bert Sugar. It was a great movie. Cheech Martin was even in it! Great movie. Million Dollar Baby! Well done, well written and well acted!

Worse Boxing Movie: Gladiator starring Cuba Gooding Jr. The worse movie I had to watch. Rocky comes in a close second. Diggstown I had issues with, the writing sucked, it was trying to be a comedy as well as a drama and it didn't mix well. And that movie Omar Epps ( drag.gif ) and Meg Ryan. Awful.

You always seem to defend the nonsense of this girl. Seriously, Rocky 5 and the latest one with Tarver may not have been the greatest, but to say all of them were the worst, is a bit of a stretch.

Rocky movies made people like boxing, even the ones who knew little to nothing about it. She's just a clueless fan with an opinion, seriously...

*On another note, The Fighter was actually worth watching, and I've watched it several times since seeing it at the movies...and I rarely go the movies.

That was a great documentary!

How dare anyone say Rocky is bad? All the Rocky's were good except for 5 with roided up Tommy Morrison. Even the Tarver one was decent (although Tarver's Mason Dixon character had the corniest name ever lmao) Four was my favorite but 1 and 2 were the most epic.Sometimes I say Cshel is a bit harsh but in this instance, among others, telling you to go kill yourself is more than appropriate.

Million Dollar Baby- was a really good movie.
Hurricane- was amazing
Resurrecting the Champ- Sam Jackson acted his ass off in that one
Undisputed- decent. Not bad
Raging Bull- classic

laugh.gif me not liking the rocky series has absolutely nothing to do with ur girl. rocky 1....the story itself....i loved it but lets be honest...he stole the whole thing from wepner and frazier. the fight scenes were horrible at best. if ur going to make a movie about boxing....u should at the very least put forth some effort to make the shit look realistic. rocky failed miserably in that category. the whole..."u gotta be able to take punishment" bullshit from sly has caused more brain damage than pop warner football.

the fighter was a great story! i actually have one of the original scripts (before all the re-writes) in my possession. mickey wards story is a good one....but i think they failed in capturing his story. his brother stole the movie. very good movie no doubt...but not one of my favorites.

rocky is bad for several reasons....

1. sylvester stallone
2. he stole real boxers stories and had to be taken to court to square up on profitting from their stories.
3. he did more harm than good
4. fight scenes

Honestly, whether the story was stolen or not, it was still a pretty good movie. I agree that it may have messed up viewers' opinion of how an actual fight is supposed to be, because there would be a lot more brain damaged fighters today, if every fighter lived by that.

I just believe that as a true boxing fan, some things should be considered blasphemy, i.e. saying that the Rocky movies were horrible. Again, I wasn't a huge fan of 5 and 6, but c'mon. In your case, I respect your opinion though. AT LEAST, your opinion has reasonable and substantial support. Dum-Dum (Allmenjoi) just gets on here and spews stuff like that, with hardly any supporting statements.

THEN, when she's challenged on it, it usually turns into 5-6 pages of ying yang, in which she's being educated and harassed at the same time. During that time, she'll throw in about another 20 names of some other random stuff, that usually warrants further explanation. See where Im going with this? laugh.gif

How in the HELL did you get your hands on the original script of The Fighter??? laugh.gif Only you Professor! I would like to know what happened before they rewrote parts of it, but seriously, I enjoyed his brother's significance in the movie. It shows that fighters have real life issues outside of the ring, and most of it consists of family members. Man, did his brother not hold onto the mysterious SRL knockdown for the whole movie? Let alone, his whole life! laugh.gif

i live in l.a. and know plenty of ppl in the movie industry. one of my clients is a big wig at sony/tri-star. i actually know a lot of back story that i can't share...but it made me look at the movie in a totally different light. i thought christian bale stole the show with dickie euklands character. the original script seemed more focused on him than ward. mark walberg is a p.o.s.

I think suicide is for suckers. Rocky sucked for several reasons: Sly can not act for shit. No descent ref would let any boxer take that type of punishment. How does a guy who has no background in boxing beat a career boxer? Rocky all 20 of them had so many prejudice sub tones . The writing was awful and the cinematography made me puke. The only character I found remotely interesting was Mickey;. Everyone was lame. There is a reason why half those characters didn't find work after that movie. I had no idea in order to be a boxing fan one had to like Rocky. Did not know. I guess I am not a basketball fan because I do not think Jordan was the greatest player. People have opinions and they all vary. Just because I do not agree with you does not mean your point is valid. I know you go for the popular and do not look at the intangibles. Rocky reminds me of Pacquiao fans, they lack substance. They prefer quantity over quality. I can see why you would think Red Lobster is an actual seafood restaurant. You not only lack height but class/ thumbsdown_anim.gif

Did anyone ever see the Cinderella Man with Russell Crow? Anthony Quinn's Requiem of a Heavyweight was AMAZING!!!! The acting and writing is phenomenal, the cinematography I think won a Oscar I have to check. If you want to see a movie that shows how screwed up the boxing business is please watch that movie.

Interesting enough Rocky is not on your list... Rocky sucked. And Sly is a jerk for not giving royalties to the guy he stole the life story from. Again, explain to me how a new fighter who has never fought before beat a career and championship boxer. It is unreal and the fight scenes would never happen in actuality. The =y made Micky Ward and Gattie's fight look like Mayweather De la Hoya.

I'll go on record and say, I tolerated the "Rocky" movies, but Rocky 3, I hated the most. Considering I grew up in the 80s, I hated how they made Mr. T., this uber-ignorant character, to the opinion of which, white America seemingly held of blacks. It wasn't enough that he trashed talked, but they made Clubber Lang such a vile, disgusting character ( as evidence by the line, "hey woman...come over to my place tonight and I'll show you a real man"), you can see evidence of America's social (read: race relation) politics. I hated this movie and subsequently, why I despise Stallone to this very day. Wanna know how much I can't stand Stallone? I supported "The Contender" until I found out he was associated w/ it. Plus, the ass-whippins Clubber was handing out was amaaaaaazing...no way a "brawler" like Rocky was gonna take those ass-whippins from a bigger, better, stronger and faster "brawler". Classic: good (white guy) vs. evil (black dude).

Favorites:

When We Were Kings
Raging Bull
Great White Hype (though I don't get how Allmenjoi is fawning over Samuel L's character. The movie is entertaining, but to go on about it as if the characters had some sort of depth is, well, someone trying too hard)
Million Dollar Baby
Streets of Gold
The Great White Hope
Tough Enough
Let's Do it Again (claaaaaaasic Poitier & Cosby comedy <--- most underrated comedic duo)
Against the Ropes
Ressurecting the Champ

Because he was funny and I think it was one of his first comedies. All his movies prior portrayed him as a bad guy crackhead with the exception of Pulp fiction, he was still a bad ass so this movie was a little lighter for him. Again my opinion.

I never said that you had to LIKE Rocky, but to get on a boxing forum and say that the movies were trash is extreme. Wonder why it's extreme? The "intangibles" around here, are far from that pint-sized brain of yours. What a minute, let me define intangibles, just to help you out.

Intangibles - 1. not tangible; incapable of being perceived by the sense of touch, as incorporeal or immaterial things; impalpable. 2. not definite or clear to the mind

The "intangibles" around here are threads/subjects that you shy away from, i.e. anything other than Mayweather/Pacquiao related topics, or any chance that you get to regurgitate something about Sergio Martinez, or ride the "chavez Jr. sucks" movement.

Oh wait...I already know you answer to this. "Sorry, for having a life and not giving my every minute to boxing". Quite a stupid answer, but how dumb would I be to expect anything different from you.

Chavez Jr. stinks and has not faced anyone worth mentioning when Chavez faces a world champ like a Ward or someone of that caliber than we will see the BS that is Chavez Jr. Ward/Gatti and Margs and the other cat that is 4 fights. So that means not a lot of refs would let something like that slide or take that type of punishment. The majority is not in your favor. So 5'6 you are really not saying much. That "other cat" that you speak of, is Lawrence Cole, and he's a fuckin' referee...dumbass. Chavez didn't have an amateur career at all, he just went pro. So, it doesn't matter if the guys he fought were elite fighters, point is, he fought guys who knew what they were doing. Im questioning why you would even call this a battle...it's similar to Mayweather/Gatti and Pacquiao/Margarito...one-sided as hell. She's too damn slow (mentally), everything she puts out there is too slow (stupid) and gets countered, and she's tailor-made to take punishment.

This butt-faced giraffe knows nothing, and it becomes more and more evident when her posts are broken down for her to witness it first hand. Sadly, she chooses to spew idiocy and stick to her point.

I remember how he talked about how he beat Don King's ass in front of 2 old crippled white women who had no idea who he was. He was like, "They must've thought I was some black heathen" laugh.gif. What if Pacquiao pulled a stunt like this on Bob Arum? I'd prob laugh my ass into a coma.

Back to Tyson... Has anyone ever noticed that he almost always gets choked up/cries when he talks about Cus D'amato? He had real love for that man, a man that he said was his father figure.

I think TYSON is the best documentary I've ever seen, let alone best boxing movie.

He is SO un-apologetically human.

P.S. BoxingFan86, your wrestling video is fucking hilarious. I have caught myself watching it repeat for about 10+ times just cackling...way too good

Speak of the devil, I watched this fight yesterday, via youtube and MY GOODNESS....I clearly had forgotten what a thorough ass-whippin' Floyd hand-delivered Gatti in this one. DAYUM. IN related news, I also watched May vs Jesus Chavez & May vs. Sosa.

I agree...I caught myself watching it repeatedly. Will Smith didn't do bad at all, in my opinion. It's got to be the hardest thing in the world to play the role of the biggest trash talker in boxer, when you've played a goofy role for the majority of your television/movie career (Will Smith).

*Noles, Box, and Cheesey...Im not paying yall AAAANNY attention! laugh.gif As far as my sig goes...there's plenty more batshit nonsense of her's to go around. I would win "Sig of the Month" EVERY month if I kept it up. laugh.gif
