Full Version: Floyd Mayweather: Speaking Out

As you've probably seen on the front page of FH, HBO's showing what should be an interesting interview with Floyd Mayweather.

Not only is the subject of the interview a boxer that has proven that he completely understands the sport that we all love, but also a very high profile person who seems to have matured recently. I would expect that this interview will give us more insight into the mind of who I consider to be the best in the sport.

What makes this even more interesting is that Dr. Michael Eric Dyson is not only an intelligent guy (although he has said a couple of things that I disagree with), but he's shown me that he can get to the heart of the matter.

HBO tonight at 10.30pm ET/PT.
Run and Gun Game Calls
I hope it is a quality interview, Floyd has a history of cutting journalists off unless they are willing to allow floyd to determine the questions asked and how hard they press when not pleased with an answer. Im just used to seeing those with access, basically say Floyd may i carry your luggage while we build a article that is written the way you want it done.

Its a shame what Journalists have become, not all but many. Even if you dont like him you have to respect guys like Skip Bayless. Even if he likes you, he will call you out.
Cheesey1
Fair enough. I've seen my fair share of interviewers/talking heads and Skip Bayless, for me, falls into the empty talking heads category.

This interview will also be recorded this evening due to the MMA card and the Showtime card. Im actually ready to see this, just seeing the preview and knowing that they will be in Floyd's gym and Dyson watching Floyd shadowbox, gives me a notion that it will be interesting.

At first , I thought it would be one of those, "Floyd, you make black people look bad" interviews, but again, the preview gave me somewhat solid idea of how the interview will go.

Thanks for opening this topic bro. Glad we dont have that illiterate busy-body (guess who) running around messing things up for everybody, and throwing out false info. I'll catch the recording before the end of the evening.

Overall the interview was decent. They touched base on some important issues. I was however a little dissapopinted in the 24/7. I will continue to watch, but both episodes have not got me anymore excited for the fight yet. And I understand that Cotto is close to his buddy, but sleeping with him and grabbing his ass is a little much in my opinion lol. I still like Cotto as a fan, but he shoulda avoided that.

In my eyes, the second 24/7 was better than the first one. Floyd was a little bit more loud this time, which is something I look for in his 24/7. All in all, it's similar to the Marquez/Money May 24/7 in terms of mood. It's nothing like 24/7 with Hatton (best one imo) or DLHY but still interesting. I like 50 Cent in the camp and Ms. Jackson (Better half) actually looks not only beautiful, but as a smart lady as well. Good to see Floyd being cool with Floyd Sr. too.

Cotto sleeping with his buddy is nothing special as he simply didn't have anyone to sleep with at first. If they are comfortable with it, why not. I mean come on, Cotto has a bomb wife and I actually laughed when Miguel slapped a hoe..I mean Bryan. He slaps him all the time...its all fun. It's not like they are getting busy in there.

Can't wait to see the interview!!!

Down the line I expect a movie will be made about Floyd's life. It's definitely an interesting story about his childhood

I haven't seen the 2nd 24/7 episode yet but the interview didn't enlighten me at all. Floyd shitted on Ortiz because people talk about him overcoming his past and now Floyd has been bringing up his past a lot lately.

My other issue is, Floyd sounds like a broken record. We know your father sold drugs and your mother was on crack. We know boxing was forced on you. We know you gamble gazillions of dollars. These topics he talks about in length but when asked about the case with the baby mama and Manny he didn't go too much in detail which is what I was waiting for. I wanted him to bring up his relationship with Top Rank as part of the reason for this fight not happening and speak more on the defamation case. Michael could have asked more questions as well, though he did a good job. Lastly, I forget the questions asked but Floyd answered a couple questions with answers that had nothing to do with the question. I was a lil disappointed but not totally. For someone who hasn't followed Floyd's career it was probably a more informative and intriguing interview though.

I agree, Floyd does say the same things over and over again, but then again he gets hit in the head for a living so he has lines pre-rehearsed and it's more simple to say the same thing. One of his favorite quotes that actually rubbed off on me is "Like I said before.....", he says that in just about every single interview or rant.

Don't get me wrong, Floyd is my guy, but his communication skills lack. The only time I really care what he's saying is when he's talking crap. He tends to get really creative then. Other than that, this interview was really Floyd, being Floyd.

Oh one other thing I did find out informative is his old best friend that he mentioned that got into selling drugs, I think this was the same guy that was at his early fights against Manfredy, Hernandez (both of them), and a few others. I never knew the dude died. I am pretty sure if you watch the walk-ins for Floyd's early career you'll see the guy, and eventually you don't see him in the walk-ins anymore.

See I get corrupt judges and corrupt reporters but someone like Floyd could call them out on so much bullshit, like the brandon rios crap and top wank, am i expecting too much? Maybe but I expect veterans of the sport to speak out for the sport they claim to love.

Im just glad that Floyd knows how to steer clear of the racism discussions and so forth. He touched on it juuust a little bit, as far foreign fighters coming to the U.S. and representing their culture, but for the most part, he avoided it. Thankfully....

Mgrover got bad news for you not even pacman could beat Floyd on the scorecards!! You know you idiots that don't know nothing about boxing always talking a lot but aint saying nothing! Pacman doesn't even come close to Floyd in skills! The only chance he has is a punchers chance just like Shane did. Pac could never out box Floyd, he just simply don't have the skill. Can't wait till they fight (if they fight) so I can hear all the excuses from pac fans why he got beat! I'm just going to laugh at it all. Floyd is the best that the sport has ever seen! That is what I had the problem with the interview, it was nothing new and Dyson did not question him. Floyd's comment about Obama holding hid belt while he walked to the ring was entertaining and you could see Dyson held back without questioning him. Another issue what I had with the interview, that it wasn't really an interview, it was like hear Floyd talk and usually Dyson is not like that.

Roger Mayweather has yet to curse which is a surprise to he has calm down and he looks so much healthier. 50 is making sense (no pun intended), I love Cotto's trainer, amazing guy, smart and cute for an older guy. Interesting to note that Floyd's three other children are not featured in this 24/7. I find it interesting that neither guy has anything bad to say about the other, the best Floyd could come up with was "How is Miguel Cotto loyal when he has had three trainers" that was actually funny. This should be a good fight.

floyd the boxer.....brilliant.

floyd the person.....i'll pass.

god given=floyd sr given

boxing was forced on u by ur father. acknowledge that and give the man the respect he is worthy of. u would not be where u are with out him. period.

also....don't compare urself to mlk or malcolm x because u are going to prison. neither one of them has ever been to prison for abusing their woman (or ex).

don't compare urself to ali either. ali was a great man with depth and character that u can never measure up to.

is he the best in the ring ever? that argument can be made. finish ur career and lets figure it out.

I was pleasantly surprised by this interview. I sometimes cringe when floyd talks and I never cared for Michael Eric Dyson, however, I thought it was a phenomenal interview. This history about his dad went further than HBO cares to go. Floyd was more genuine than normal. He seemed more comfortable than he normally is in the media. Nothing seemed scripted or planned. I really liekd it. It was like sitting down with Floyd as a job interviewer and saying "tell me about yourself."

These dumb ass interviewers/reporters still dont get the point. If you ask this guy a decent question and let him speak freely, then you tend to get more info. As soon as they start with the "Pacquiao poking", then the chance of any useful information goes out of the window.

I do get tired of him saying the same thing over and over again, but again, when he's allowed to talk, he usually gives viewers more insight. I enjoyed those ESPN interviews with Brian Kenny, though he can be an ass, they were still funny!

ok...so floyd jr should at the very least give his pops props. i just watched an interview where he talks about his pops going to jail when he was 16...and how he was being invited to camps...and training with guys like frankie randall and pernell whitaker....at 17 and 18. where was roger for all of that? in the last 24/7 he talked about when he moved out to vegas and started working with roger. he was a finished product at that point. saying his talent is god given is all fine and dandy...but floyd sr is the one that delivered that talent to him from god. give the man his props. floyd jr would not be where he is with floyd sr.

i met floyd at the '03 national golden gloves. that was around the first well publicized fallout he and his father had. i also met his pops when he was working with panchito bojado in l.a. before that. i couldn't pass up on the photo op with floyd jr...so i went up to him and asked for the pic. very nice dude....super cordial....we laughed at my cheap stainless watch when he showed off his beautiful diamond embedded rolex. right before the pic was taken he said "yeah, get the picture with the only mayweathers that matter! the only champion mayweathers!" and i thought that was really not cool. i didn't know the whole story back then but still i thought it was wrong for him to air his dirty laundry in public like that so i let it be known in a discrete manner. i shook his hand, thanked him for the pic pulled him in for a hug and said..."that's not cool. at the end of the day...he's still ur pops...and ur still his son. don't do it like this." he gave me a look like no one had ever said that to him before. from the looks of things...i wonder. he has plenty of yes men around. there has to be one voice of reason in the bunch. floyd...whether he wants to accept it or not, is looked up to by plenty of youth. not just black youth either. so when he is publicly disrespecting his own father...the man who gave him boxing....what kind of message is he sending out? i love the man. i get the pain. just don't do it like this for the world to see...that's all i'm saying.

C'mon Professor, PLEASE dont tell me you were one of those "village raising a child" type of old men. laugh.gif Seriously though, I cant knock you for that man, there aren't many adults who care to talk to younger folks, even if they're only a few years younger.

With that said, the reason why is because there are 10x more younger people out here nowadays, that could give less than two shits about respect their elders, let alone, respect anybody else.
